Abstract

An article suitable for conducting one or more assays with an apparatus, e.g., a meter, for determining the presence or concentration of an analyte in a sample of biological fluid. The article contains a plurality of biosensors arranged in such a manner that each of the biosensors can be utilized before the article must be removed from the apparatus.

Claims

9-1. The article of claim 12, wherein test strips are placed in a plurality of said sectors.

12. An article for providing a plurality of test strips, said article comprising:

(a) a backing having a plurality of sectors, each of said sectors having a first recess for allowing a lancing device to pass therethrough;

(b) each recess in each sector in said backing having an aperture;

(c) each sector in said backing having a second recess, each recess capable of containing a test strip having an electrode arrangement.

1. An article for providing a plurality of test strips, said article comprising:

(a) a thin, flat plate, said thin, flat plate having a plurality of sectors, each of said sectors having an electrode arrangement applied thereto;

(b) a backing having a plurality of sectors, each of said sectors having a recess for allowing a lancing device to pass therethrough;

(c) each sector in said thin, flat plate having an aperture and each recess in each sector in said backing having an aperture, each of said apertures in said thin, flat plate being in register with one of said apertures in one of said recesses in said backing.

2. The article of claim 1, wherein each of said apertures in said thin, flat plate has a notch located on the periphery thereof.

3. The article of claim 1, wherein one major surface of said thin, flat plate is adhered to one major surface of said backing.

4. The article of claim 3, wherein a layer of adhesive adheres said one major surface of said thin, flat plate to said one major surface of said backing, said layer of adhesive comprising a plurality of channels for the transport of biological fluid from the skin of a patient to said electrode arrangements.

5. The article of claim 1, wherein said backing comprises a plurality of channels for the transport of biological fluid from the skin of a patient to said electrode arrangements.

6. The article of claim 1, wherein said thin, flat plate has a central opening and said backing has a central opening.

7. The article of claim 1, wherein the major surfaces of said thin, flat plate and said backing are circular in shape.

8. The article of claim 1, wherein said recesses in said backing have a wall and a base, said apertures being in said bases of said recesses.

9. The article of claim 1, further including a plurality of alignment posts for ensuring that each of said apertures in said thin, flat plate is in register with one of said apertures in one of said recesses in said backing.

10. The article of claim 1, wherein said backing is attached to said thin, flat plate by means of press-fitting.

11. The article of claim 1, wherein said backing is attached to said thin, flat plate by means of a weld.

14. The article of claim 12, wherein said backing comprises a plurality of channels for the transport of biological fluid from the skin of a patient to said electrode arrangements.

15. The article of claim 12, wherein each of said apertures in said backing has a notch located on the periphery thereof.

16. The article of claim 12, wherein said backing has a central opening.

17. The article of claim 12, wherein the major surfaces of said backing are circular in shape.

18. The article of claim 12, wherein said first recesses in said backing have a wall and a base, said apertures being in said bases of said recesses.

19. An article for providing a plurality of test strips, said article comprising:

(a) a plurality of segments, each of said segments attached to at least one other segment, said segments arranged in a line;

(b) each segment having at least a portion of an aperture formed therethrough;

(c) each segment having a recess on one major surface thereof.

20. The article of claim 19, wherein each segment is capable of supporting a test strip.

21. The article of claim 19, wherein each aperture has a notch.

22. The article of claim 19, wherein each segment has at least a first slot for moving said segment linearly for enhancement of collecting a sample of biological fluid emerging from an opening in the skin of a patient.

23. The article of claim 19, wherein each segment has at least a second slot for indexing said segment when a test strip supported by said segment has been used.

24. The article of claim 19, wherein said recess of said segment contains a test strip having an electrode arrangement.

25. The article of claim 19, wherein said segments are separated from adjacent segments by perforations or score lines.

26. The article of claim 19, wherein said segments are detachably attached by rupturable links, whereby a given segment can be detached from an adjacent segment.

27. The article of claim 19, wherein said segments are detachably attached by links, each of said links comprising a pin and a pin holder, said pin capable of being removed from its respective pin holder.
