Abstract

A system and methods for slow medium access control entity (MAC-e) for autonomous transmission during High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), and for service specific transmission time control in HUSPA, wherein a control parameter that is independent from the air interface transmission time interval (TTI), hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) processes or enhanced dedicated transport channel (E-DCH) scheduling is used. This control defines the minimum time interval between subsequent new transmissions. The control has no impact on retransmissions, which are performed normally.

Claims

5-1. The method claim 1, wherein said decelerating step comprises inserting a new parameter in the PDP context/radio access bearer (RAB) layer.

19. A network for slow medium access control entity (MAC-e) autonomous transmission, comprising:

means for checking to determine whether all MAC-e power distribution units (PDUs) are transmitting data packets autonomously; and

means for decelerating packet transmission rates between the MAC-e and a physical layer.

20. The network of claim 19, wherein said decelerating means comprises:

means for sending the MAC-e PDU to the physical layer; and

means for waiting for a predetermined time period to lapse.

21. The network of claim 19, wherein the predetermined time period is n times a transmission time interval (TTI).

22. The network of claim 21, wherein an effective bit rate and an impact of the autonomous transmission on a rise over thermal (RoT) becomes smaller when n is increased.

23. The network of claim 21, wherein an identical hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) process is used if n is selected as a multiple of a number of HARQ processes.

24. The network claim 19, wherein said decelerating means comprises means for inserting a new parameter in the PDP context/radio access bearer (RAB) layer.

25. The network of claim 24, wherein the new parameter is a PDP context/quality of signal (QoS) parameter.

26. The network of claim 24, wherein the new parameter is a service data unit (SDU) inter-arrival rate that establishes a minimum required time interval between consecutive SDUs that are transmitted on a specific RAB.

27. The network of claim 26, wherein the SDU inter-arrival rate is n times a transmission time interval.

28. The network of claim 26, wherein data packets are grouped together into a single SDU when multiple packets arrive within the SDU inter-arrival rate.

29. The network of claim 28, wherein the SDU inter-arrival rate is n times a transmission time interval.

30. The network of claim 19, said decelerating means comprises means for implementing a new medium access control (MAC) parameter in the MAC-d.

31. The network of claim 30, wherein the new parameter is a virtual transmit time interval (TTI).

32. The network of claim 31, wherein the virtual TTI establishes a minimum time interval between subsequent new transmissions.

33. The network of claim 32, wherein the minimum time interval TTI is n times a transmission time interval.

34. The network of claim 30, wherein the virtual TTI is signalled by the network.

35. The network of claim 34, wherein a plurality of frames are inserted into a single user datagram protocol/real-time transport protocol/Internet protocol (UDP/RTP/IP) packet to reduce a UDP/RTP/IP protocol overhead and processing load in user equipment and the network.

36. The network of claim 35, wherein two frames are inserted into the single user UDP/RTP/IP packet.

37. The network of claim 26, wherein the SDU inter-arrival rate is signalled by the network.

38. A mobile station, comprising:

a processing unit;

a memory connected to the processing unit;

a display connected to the processing unit;

a plurality of internal features, each feature providing a unique functionality application, said plurality of internal features being located in hardware, firmware and/or an operating system of the mobile station; and

a cellular transceiver connected to the processing unit and adapted to communicate with a controller located at a remote location;

wherein said mobile station is configured to determine whether all MAC-e power distribution units (PDUs) are transmitting data packets autonomously, and decelerate packet transmission rates between the MAC-e and a physical layer.

45. A computer program product for use in a network for slow medium access control entity (MAC-e) autonomous transmission comprising a computer usable medium having computer readable program code thereon, the computer readable program code including:

program code for checking to determine whether all MAC-e power distribution units (PDUs) are transmitting data packets autonomously; and

program code for decelerating a transmission rates between the MAC-e and a physical layer.
