Abstract

A personalized content system enables a user with a communications device to convert and/or passively receive pre-selected content from multiple resources. A communications device has hardware and software to provide input and transmission to convert content from any form of media. The converted content is created by retrieving a digital copy of a digital record associated with it, and processing the digital copy for at least a web-based personalized application. Conversion is based on input of a code such as a telephone number, server program address, and a set of and/or range of characters. The transmission is communicated to at least one server that recognizes the code, the originating telephone number associated with the communications device, the device identifier associated with the communications device, and combinations thereof. The server retrieves a digital record and processes content and outputs based on user input, a user and/or program profile, and combinations thereof.

Claims

1. A personalized content system that enables a user with a communications device to convert and passively receive pre-selected content from multiple resources, which comprises:

at least one communications device selected from the group consisting of;

a wireless cellular device, a messaging device, a wireless device, a wired device, and combinations thereof;

said at least one device having sufficient hardware and software to perform the following function;

provide input and transmission means to convert content from any form of media wherein said converted content is created by retrieving a digital copy of at least one digital record associated with said content and processing said digital copy for at least a web-based personalized application, wherein said conversion is based on the input of at least one code wherein said code is selected from the group consisting of a telephone number, a server program address, at least one set of characters, a range of characters, and combinations thereof;

wherein said code may be selected from the group consisting of displayed text, a bar code, a wireless transmitted code, a RFID code, and an announced code, and said code is inputted into said communications device by at least one of said user and by other means, and is transmitted from said communications device;

wherein said transmission is communicated to at least one server port that is connected to at least one server with a server program that recognizes at least one of said code, the originating telephone number associated with said communications device, the device identifier associated with said communications device, and combinations thereof, wherein said server program processes said input and retrieves a digital record of at least one of said content and content related to said content that is related to at least one of said code, said originating communications device telephone number, said originating communications device identifier, and combinations thereof, wherein said digital record is from at least one of said server and at least one other server, and said server processes said content based on at least one of said user input, a user profile associated with said input, a program profile associated with said input, a program profile associated with at least the time of receipt of said transmission to said server port, and combinations thereof, and provides at least one output associated with said converted content.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein said media is selected from the group consisting of print, television, radio, recorded video, and recorded audio.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein said media is selected from the group consisting of web media and user-generated content media.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein said input is at least one input selected from the group consisting of submitting categorized content, submitting and categorizing content, submitting pre-defined codes associated with content, moving content from a general medium to a personalized medium, and combinations thereof.

5. The system of claim 2 wherein said input is at least one input selected from the group consisting of submitting categorized content, submitting and categorizing content, submitting pre-defined codes associated with content, moving content from a general medium to a personalized medium, and combinations thereof.

6. The system of claim 3 wherein said input is at least one input selected from the group consisting of submitting categorized content, submitting and categorizing content, submitting pre-defined codes associated with content, moving content from a general medium to a personalized medium, and combinations thereof.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein said code is at least one of a user-generated code, a code generated by a web community, a code revised by a web community, or a combination thereof.

8. The system of claim 4 wherein said code is at least one of a user-generated code, a code generated by a web community, a code revised by a web community, or a combination thereof.

9. The system of claim 5 wherein said code is at least one of a user-generated code, a code generated by a web community, a code revised by a web community, or a combination thereof.

10. The system of claim 6 wherein said code is at least one of a user-generated code, a code generated by a web community, a code revised by a web community, or a combination thereof.

11. The system of claim 1 wherein said code is at least one of:

(a) associated with at least one of an ad slogan, a company name, a product name, a company brand, and combinations thereof, and

(b) is at least one of an ad slogan, a company name, a product name, a company brand, and combinations thereof.

12. The system of claim 4 wherein said code is at least one of:

(a) associated with at least one of an ad slogan, a company name, a product name, a company brand, and combinations thereof; and

(b) is at least one of an ad slogan, a company name, a product name, a company brand, and combinations thereof.

13. The system of claim 5 wherein said code is at least one of:

(a) associated with at least one of an ad slogan, a company name, a product name, a company brand, and combinations thereof; and

(b) is at least one of an ad slogan, a company name, a product name, a company brand, and combinations thereof.

14. The system of claim 6 wherein said code is at least one of:

(a) associated with at least one of an ad slogan, a company name, a product name, a company brand, and combinations thereof; and

(b) is at least one of an ad slogan, a company name, a product name, a company brand, and combinations thereof.

15. The system of claim 1 wherein said server program processing is selected from a group consisting of at least one retrieval function, at least one output function, an interactive session with said user, an interactive session with at least one user and combinations thereof.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein said interactive session with said user has a functional means that is selected from the group consisting of user mechanical input through the communications device of said user, user voice input through the communications device of said user, at least one server program associated with said user profile, at least one server program associated with said media provider or combinations thereof

17. The system of claim 1 wherein said user profile may include content that may be used in at least one of one search function and at least one additional search function wherein said additional search function is based on prior search output comparisons with at least one of said user profile preference entries, community profile preference entries, system profile update entries, and combinations thereof.

18. The system of claim 1 wherein said retrieved converted content includes advertising.

19. The system of claim 2 wherein said retrieved converted content includes advertising.

20. The system of claim 3 wherein said retrieved converted content includes advertising.

21. The system of claim 15 wherein said retrieved converted content includes advertising.

22. The system of claim 17 wherein said search function comprises output that includes advertising relevant to said search function content.

23. The system of claim 1 wherein said code is accounted for in print media and said media is selected from the group consisting of a publication, a billboard, a plaque, a sign, a poster, and the media medium is selected from the group consisting of paper, electronic paper, a surface that supports the display of digital images, a surface that supports the display of printable images, a planar surface.

24. The system of claim 1 wherein said code is transmitted for the use of television media wherein said code is associated with said television media content and is:

(a) at least one of visually displayed, audibly announced, and communicated to a local area networked device via a communications link, from a unit that is selected from the group consisting of a television appliance, a device connected to a television appliance, a server, a local network device connected to a server, and combinations thereof, wherein said selected unit from said group is connected to a television program content and code software program and communications link associated with at least one of a television network and a television service provider that support(s) the delivery of said program content to at least one of said unit that is selected from said group consisting of a television appliance, a server, a local network device connected to a server, and combinations thereof and wherein at least one of said television network and said television service provider also support(s) the delivery of said code associated with said program content to at least one of said selected unit from said group;

b) communicated to a wide area networked device wherein said device comprises a communications interface to, at least one of, a user, a unit selected from the group consisting of a television appliance, a device connected to a television appliance, a server, a local network device connected to a server, and combinations thereof, and a device capable of communicating with said selected unit from said group, wherein said associated program content code is delivered from a television program content and code software program and communications link associated with at least one of a television network and television service provider that support(s) the delivery of said program content associated with said code to at least one of said unit from said group; and

c) communicated to a web server that comprises sufficient hardware and software to receive said associated program content code and support a software program that reads said code and provides a processing and output function associated with certain predefined code data, wherein at least one output function is at least one of retrieving, copying and storing said associated television program content, and retrieving and storing a copy of said associated television program content.

25. The system of claim 1 wherein said code is transmitted for the use of radio media wherein said code is associated with said radio media content and is:

(a) at least one of visually displayed, audibly announced, and communicated to a local area networked device via a communications link, from a unit that is selected from the group consisting of a radio appliance, a device connected to a radio appliance, a server, a local network device connected to a server, and combinations thereof, wherein said selected unit from said group is connected to a radio program content and code software program and communications link associated with at least one of a radio network and radio service provider that supports the delivery of said program content to at least one of said unit that is selected from said group consisting of a radio appliance, a device connected to a radio appliance, a server, a local network device connected to a server, and combinations thereof, and wherein at least one of said radio network and said radio service provider also support(s) the delivery of said code associated with said program content to at least one of said selected unit from said group;

b) communicated to a wide area networked device wherein said device comprises a communications interface to, at least one of, a user, a unit selected from the group consisting of a radio appliance, a device connected to a radio appliance, a server, a local network device connected to a server, and combinations thereof, and a device capable of communicating with said selected unit from said group, wherein said associated program content code is delivered from a radio program content and code software program and communications link associated with at least one of a radio network and radio service provider that support(s) the delivery of said program content associated with said code to at least one of said unit from said group; and

c) communicated to a web server that comprises sufficient hardware and software to receive said associated program content code and support a software program that reads said code and provides a processing and output function associated with certain predefined code data, wherein at least one output function is at least one of retrieving, copying and storing said associated radio program content, and retrieving and storing a copy of said associated radio program content.

26. The system of claim 1 wherein output of said converted content is downloaded to a device selected from the consisting of a cell phone, a messaging device, a networked display, a server, and combinations thereof.

27. The system of claim 26 wherein said output download includes advertising.

28. The system of claim 1 wherein the output associated with said converted content is selected from the group consisting of the purchase of a product or service, the tagging of said content, the storage of said content, a request for additional content, and combinations thereof.

29. The system of claim 1 wherein said output is a voice call, a conference call, a call transfer, a voice message, and a voice memo.

30. The system of claim 1 wherein said converted content includes at least one selected from the group consisting of motor vehicle system data, GPS system data, and a combined subsystem of data that includes GPS system data and other source content data.

31. The system of claim 1 wherein said converted content is from a plurality of sources and said plurality of sources is arranged in priority tiers having at least two tiers and wherein at least one of said at least two tiers automatically overrides any other tier when predetermined priority data is processed and wherein said priority data is selected from the group consisting of emergency data, weather data, calendar reminder data, optional calendar data and sports data.

32. The system of claim 31 wherein said system includes user selection of tier priorities.

33. The system of claim 1 wherein said converted content includes data selected from the group consisting of a thermostat system, an irrigation system, a security system, caller identification system and a voice message system.

34. The system of claim 1 wherein said converted content includes data selected from the group consisting of text messages, voice mail, email, blog postings, and online auction status.

35. The system of claim 1 wherein the said converted content data presentation is managed from a resource selected from the group consisting of said device input, a separate cell phone input, a remote input, a server input, and combinations thereof.

36. The system of claim 1 that further includes said at least one server and at least one communications link with said communications device.

37. A personalized content system that comprises:

at least one apparatus for receiving, processing, integrating and communicating user-specific personalized content in at least one of visual form and audible form, wherein said at least one apparatus is preprogrammed to automatically present data associated with user-specific content in said at least one of visual form and audible form without any user activation, said data being obtained from at least one predetermined data provider,

and said data being communicated over at least one predetermined communications service.

38. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said predetermined communications service is selected from the group consisting of:

(a) a wireless communications network;

(b) at least one broadcast media service;

(c) at least one satellite media service;

(d) at least one cable media service; and

(e) at least one broadband service.

39. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said predetermined communications service is selected from the group consisting of:

(a) local area network wired communications service;

(b) local area network wireless communications service; and

,

(c) wire communications service with remote sourced content capability.

40. The personalized content system of claim 38 wherein said apparatus is in the embodiment of an alarm clock radio wherein said radio comprises:

sufficient hardware, software and memory to support at least a web browser;

a push communications means;

alarm, timer, device mode, and administration functions; and

a web site access and content retrieval program;

at least one input means selected from the group consisting of a USB interface, a keypad, an input button, administration software, and at least one data communications interface;

at least one output means selected from the group consisting of at least one speaker and associated audible components, a digital to analog chip set and associated audible components, a display, at least one data communications interface, and a USB interface;

a central processor;

memory; and

a power means;

wherein said software program operates at least under a pre-set cycle to activate said web browser and supporting program to access at least one designated web site URL and retrieve data from pre-selected content categories associated with said URL and perform at least one of the following;

display said retrieved data in a predetermined order;

store said data for presentation initiated by at least one of the following activations;

alarm initiated, user initiated, remote control initiated, remote data communication initiated and combinations thereof, wherein said presentation may be at least one of the following;

an audible announcement, a visual communication, a wirelessly transmitted communication, a wired communication, and combinations thereof.

The personalized content system of claim 40 wherein said alarm clock radio comprises at least one software program that enables the automatic switching of application, media, and program modes based on at least one of the activation and completion of a personalized content presentation and announcement, a set time interval, a set start and stop time, a set start and stop time sequence, and combinations thereof wherein said application mode is selected from the group consisting of entertainment, emergency, security, home controls, and medical/health;

wherein said entertainment mode comprises at least said radio and radio adjunct media wherein said media mode is at least selected from the group consisting of at least one wireless communication, FM band reception, AM band reception, a personalized content setting, and at least one adjunct component and said program mode is selected from the group consisting of a personalized content announcement, a personalized content display, a radio channel setting, a streaming audio setting, and an adjunct component output.

42. The personalized content system of claim 39 wherein said apparatus is in the embodiment of an alarm clock radio wherein said radio comprises:

sufficient hardware, software and memory to support at least a web browser;

a push communications means;

alarm, timer, device mode, and administration functions; and

a web site access and content retrieval program;

at least one input means selected from the group consisting of a USB interface, a keypad, an input button, administration software, and at least one data communications interface;

at least one output means selected from the group consisting of at least one speaker and associated audible components, a digital to analog chip set and associated audible components, a display, at least one data communications interface, and a USB interface;

a central processor;

memory; and

a power means;

wherein said software program operates at least under a pre-set cycle to activate said web browser and supporting program to access at least one designated web site URL and retrieve data from pre-selected content categories associated with said URL and perform at least one of the following;

display said retrieved data in a predetermined order;

store said data for presentation initiated by at least one of the following activations;

alarm initiated, user initiated, remote control initiated, remote data communication initiated and combinations thereof, wherein said presentation may be at least one of the following;

an audible announcement, a visual communication, a wirelessly transmitted communication, a wired communication, and combinations thereof.

The personalized content system of claim 42 wherein said alarm clock radio comprises at least one software program that enables the automatic switching of application, media, and program modes based on at least one of the activation and completion of a personalized content presentation and announcement, a set time interval, a set start and stop time, a set start and stop time sequence, and combinations thereof wherein said application mode is at least one selected from the group consisting of entertainment, emergency, security, home controls, and medical/health;

wherein said entertainment mode comprises at least said radio and radio adjunct media wherein said media mode is at least selected from the group consisting of at least one wireless communication, FM band reception, AM band reception, a personalized content setting, and at least one adjunct component and said program mode is selected from the group consisting of a personalized content announcement, a personalized content display, a radio channel setting, a streaming audio setting, and an adjunct component output.

44. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said predetermined data provider is selected from the group consisting of:

i) at least one sensor;

ii) at least one measuring instrument;

iii) at least one server;

iv) at least one controller; and

,

v) at least one Internet server.

45. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said predetermined data provider is selected from the group consisting of:

i) at least one Wi Max network service;

ii) at least one broadcast media service;

iii) at least one satellite media service;

iv) at least one cable media service; and

,

v) at least one broadband access service.

46. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said predetermined data provider is selected from the group consisting of:

i) at least one cellular carrier service;

ii) at least one paging carrier service;

iii) at least one messaging carrier service;

iv) at least one powerline access service; and

,

v) at least one Internet Protocol network.

47. The personalized content system of claim 37wherein said predetermined data provider is selected from the group consisting of:

i) at least one public switched network telephone service;

ii) at least one public switched network telephone service including wireless components;

iii) at least one dial up access telephone service;

iv) at least one dial up access telephone service including wireless components.

48. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said at least one apparatus includes:

(a) at least one input port for displaying user-specified content;

(b) at least one input port for displaying localized content from at least one data provider selected from the group consisting of a sensor, a measuring instrument, an alert system, a thermostat system, and a motor vehicle system;

(c) at least one processor that is connected to at least one of said input ports for receiving said content and generating an output transmission for enabling the display of said content; and

,

(d) software and memory for supporting the display of said content in a specified manner.

49. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said at least one apparatus includes sufficient hardware and software to display at least one of:

(a) weather information that is preprogrammed to be user-specific and is sourced from at least one of an internet server, a weather band radio broadcast, and a NOAA S.A.M. E. broadcast; and

(b) information that is not weather-related, is user-specific and is sourced from an internet server.

50. The personalized content system of claim 49 wherein said apparatus further includes sufficient hardware and software to display localized weather content associated with at least one data provider selected from the group consisting of:

(a) a home-based weather station having at least one of a sensor and a measuring instrument, that communicates to said at least one apparatus directly from said station; and

,

(b) a home-based weather station having at least one of a sensor and a measuring instrument, that communicates to said at least one apparatus indirectly from said station through an intermediary device having a communications means.

51. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said at least one apparatus displays advertising-related content.

52. The personalized content system of claim 49 wherein said at least one apparatus displays advertising-related content.

53. The personalized content system of claim 50 wherein said at least one apparatus displays advertising-related content.

54. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said at least one apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a hand-held portable device, a cell phone, a hand-held controller device, a desk top device and a wall-mountable device.

55. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said personalized content includes at least one selected from the group consisting of motor vehicle system data, GPS system data, and a combined subsystem of data that includes GPS system data and other source content data.

56. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said personalized content is from a plurality of sources and said plurality of sources is arranged in priority tiers having at least two tiers and wherein at least one of said at least two tiers automatically overrides any other tier when predetermined priority data is processed and wherein said priority data is selected from the group consisting of emergency data, weather data, calendar reminder data, optional calendar data and sports data.

57. The personalized content system of claim 56 wherein said system includes user selection of tier priorities.

58. The personalized content system of claim 57 wherein said system comprises at least one apparatus in the embodiment of an alarm clock radio wherein said radio comprises:

sufficient hardware, software and memory to support at least a web browser;

a push communications means;

alarm, timer, device mode, and administration functions;

a web site access and content retrieval program, and priority data processing;

at least one input means selected from the group consisting of a USB interface, a keypad, an input button, administration software, and at least one data communications interface;

at least one output means selected from the group consisting of at least one speaker and associated audible components, a digital to analog chip set and associated audible components, a display, at least one data communications interface, and a USB interface;

a central processor;

memory; and

a power means;

wherein said software program operates at least under a pre-set cycle to activate said web browser and supporting program to access at least one designated web site URL and retrieve data from pre-selected content categories associated with said URL and perform at least one of the following;

display said retrieved data in a predetermined order;

store said data for presentation initiated by at least one of the following activations;

alarm initiated, user initiated, remote control initiated, remote data communication initiated and combinations thereof, wherein said presentation may be at least one of the following;

an audible announcement, a visual communication, a wirelessly transmitted communication, a wired communication, and combinations thereof.

59. The personalized content system of claim 58 wherein said alarm clock radio comprises at least one software program that enables the automatic switching of application, media, and program modes based on at least one of the receipt, activation and completion of a personalized content presentation and announcement, a set time interval, a set start and stop time, a set start and stop time sequence, and combinations thereof wherein said application mode is at least one selected from the group consisting of entertainment, emergency, security, home controls, and medical/health;

wherein said entertainment mode comprises at least said radio and radio adjunct media wherein said media mode is at least selected from the group consisting of at least one wireless communication, FM band reception, AM band reception, a personalized content setting, and at least one adjunct component and said program mode is selected from the group consisting of a personalized content announcement, a personalized content display, a radio channel setting, a streaming audio setting, and an adjunct component output.

60. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said at least one apparatus comprises:

(a) at least one input means for receiving at least one of a reporting communication, an exception communication, and at least one device command communication from at least one other apparatus;

(b) at least one output means for transmitting at least one communication associated with said at least one of a reporting communication, an exception communication, and a device command communication wherein said transmission is selected from the group consisting of at least one of the following;

audible, visual, vibratory, wireless data, and wire data; and

(c) at least one processor functionally connected to said at least one input means and said at least one output means, said at least one processor having sufficient components, hardware and software for supporting at least one wireless communications interface, said at least one processor further having sufficient components, hardware, software and memory to provide at least one function selected from the group consisting of transmitting device commands to devices associated with the receipt and processing of at least one of said inputs;

a reporting communication, an exception communication, and a device command communication;

transmitting device commands associated with a timer program;

transmitting device commands associated with the activation of a user profile program;

transmitting device commands associated with a system application program; and

transmitting device commands associated with a combination of the preceding.

61. The personalized content system of claim 60 wherein said system application program comprises at least one program selected from the group consisting of entertainment, emergency, security, home controls, and medical/health applications.

62. The personalized content system of claim 56 wherein said at least one apparatus comprises:

(a) at least one input means for receiving at least one of a reporting communication, an exception communication, a priority data communication and at least one device command communication from at least one other apparatus;

(b) at least one output means for transmitting at least one communication associated with said at least one of a reporting communication, an exception communication, a priority data communication and device command communication wherein said transmission is selected from the group consisting of at least one of the following;

audible, visual, vibratory, wireless data, and wire data; and

(c) at least one processor functionally connected to said at least one input means and said at least one output means, said at least one processor having sufficient components, hardware and software for supporting at least one wireless communications interface, said at least one processor further having sufficient components, hardware, software and memory to provide at least one function selected from the group consisting of transmitting device commands to devices associated with the receipt and processing of at least one of said inputs;

a reporting communication, an exception communication, a priority data communication and a device command communication;

transmitting device commands associated with a timer program;

transmitting device commands associated with the activation of a user profile program;

transmitting device commands associated with a system application program; and

transmitting device commands associated with a combination of the preceding.

63. The personalized content system of claim 62 wherein said system application program comprises at least one program selected from the group consisting of entertainment, emergency, security, home controls, and medical/health applications.

64. The personalized content system of claim 57 wherein said at least one apparatus comprises:

(a) at least one input means for receiving at least one of a reporting communication, an exception communication, a priority data communication and at least one device command communication from at least one other apparatus;

(b) at least one output means for transmitting at least one communication associated with said at least one of a reporting communication, an exception communication, a priority data communication and a device command communication wherein said transmission is selected from the group consisting of at least one of the following;

audible, visual, vibratory, wireless data, and wire data; and

(c) at least one processor functionally connected to said at least one input means and said at least one output means, said at least one processor having sufficient components, hardware and software for supporting at least one wireless communications interface, said at least one processor further having sufficient components, hardware, software and memory to provide at least one function selected from the group consisting of transmitting device commands to devices associated with the receipt and processing of at least one of said inputs;

a reporting communication, an exception communication, a priority data communication and a device command communication;

transmitting device commands associated with a timer program;

transmitting device commands associated with the activation of a user profile program;

transmitting device commands associated with a system application program; and

transmitting device commands associated with a combination of the preceding.

65. The personalized content system of claim 64 wherein said system application program comprises at least one program selected from the group consisting of entertainment, emergency, security, home controls, and medical/health applications.

66. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said personalized content includes data selected from the group consisting of a thermostat system, an irrigation system, a security system, a home controls system and a voice message system.

67. The personalized content system of claim 58 wherein said personalized content includes data selected from the group consisting of a thermostat system, an irrigation system, a security system, a home controls system and a voice message system.

68. The personalized content system of claim 62 wherein said personalized content includes data selected from the group consisting of a thermostat system, an irrigation system, a security system, a home controls system and a voice message system.

69. The personalized content system of claim 64 wherein said personalized content includes data selected from the group consisting of a thermostat system, an irrigation system, a security system, a home controls system and a voice message system.

70. The personalized content system of claim 37 wherein said personalized content includes data selected from the group consisting of text messages, voice mail, email, blog postings, and online auction status.

71. The personalized content system of claim 58 wherein said personalized content includes data selected from the group consisting of text messages, voice mail, email, blog postings, and online auction status.
