Abstract

Systems, software, and methods for reliable wireless communication are provided. In one aspect, a computer program control device, called a node, is configured to be transmitted from a first device for receipt and processing on a second, disparate device. The node comprises a collection of managed objects or managed object representations that is effective to control said disparate device. In one exemplary illustrative non-limiting implementation, the node is configured to control the processing of multiple data types.

Claims

1. An apparatus for transmitting or receiving, from a first device for receipt and processing on a disparate device, a computer program code device comprising a collection of managed objects or managed object representations that is effective to control said disparate device.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the processing of multiple data types.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the processing of data encoding an image.

4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein said image is part of a sequence of images.

5. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the processing of signature information.

6. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the processing of data encoding sounds.

7. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the processing of data provided by a scanning device.

8. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the processing of data retrieved from a magnetic data storage mechanism.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said magnetic data storage mechanism comprises a strip of magnetic material.

10. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the processing of information to be sent to a printing device for printing.

11. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the processing of information related to a geographic location.

12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said information is obtained from at least one Global Positioning Satellite.

13. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the operation of another said program code device in said disparate device.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said computer program code device is configured to execute a logical branch in the operation of a program operating in said disparate device.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein said logical branch is an IF operation.

16. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein said logical branch is a conditional branching operation.

17. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said computer program code device is related logically to a plurality of computer program code devices, and is configured to change the logical order of said plurality of computer program code devices.

18. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said computer program code device is configured to create a logical structure of computer program code devices.

19. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said computer program code device is configured to instantiate a second computer program code device.

20. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said computer program code device is configured to cause the operation of an external program.

21. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said computer program code device is configured to receive the results of the operation of an external program.

22. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the computer program code device is modified by the result of the operation or instantiation.

23. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the said computer program code device is configured to specify the program or computer program code device to use.

24. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to determine or specify whether it is complete.

25. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device is configured to control the processing of information obtained from at least one other computer program code device.

26. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein said computer program code device comprises a representation of a first computer program code device that is configured to cause the creation of a second computer program device that comprises a clone of said first computer program code device.

27. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said computer program code device provides a catalog of information.

28. A apparatus as in claim 1 comprising a plurality of computer program code devices.

29. The apparatus of claim 26, wherein said relationship between a first computer program code device and a second computer code device has a hierarchical structure.

30. The apparatus of claim 26, wherein said relationship between a first computer program code device and a second computer code device has a linear structure.

31. The apparatus of claim 26, wherein said relationship between a first computer program code device, a second computer program code device, and a third computer program code device has a web structure.

32. The apparatus of claim 26, wherein said computer program code device is configured to be received over a network connection.

33. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said computer program code device is configured to be received wirelessly by said disparate device.

34. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said disparate device comprises a standard computer.

35. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said disparate device comprises a server.

36. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said disparate device comprises a hand-held computer.

37. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said disparate device comprises a cell phone.

38. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said computer program code device is encrypted, compressed, or protected from tampering.

39. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said computer program code device is configured to specify at least one mechanism for its management.

40. The apparatus of claim 39, wherein said management includes synchronization of said computer program code device between said first device and said disparate device.

41. The apparatus of claim 40, wherein said synchronization occurs upon completion of the operation controlled by said computer program device or the completion of the operation of a second computer program code device.

42. The apparatus of claim 40, wherein said synchronization occurs at a predetermined interval.

43. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the computer program code device comprises a set of computer program code devices that are sufficient to control a defined user operation.

44. The apparatus of any of claim 1, wherein said computer program code device is usable on said disparate device independently of the state of the communications link between said first device and said disparate device.

45. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a structure that is configured to manage in accordance with the management specification of said computer program code device.

46. The apparatus of claim 45 that is configured to temporarily suspend at least one aspect of management of said computer program control device.

47. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the apparatus is configured to send a computer program code device to an authorized disparate device.

48. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the apparatus is configured to receive a computer program code device from an authorized disparate device.

49. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the apparatus is configured to receive a computer program code device from a plurality of authorized disparate devices.

50. The apparatus of claim 49, wherein said disparate device is configured to receive computer program code devices from a plurality of apparatuses.

51. The apparatus of claims 50, wherein said disparate device is configured to process at least one aspect of said computer program code device.

52. The apparatus of claim 50, wherein said disparate device comprises an authenticated device.

53. The apparatus of claim 50, wherein said disparate device is associated with an authenticated user.

54. An apparatus that is configured to manage computer program code devices that have been received from a plurality of disparate devices, wherein said apparatus manages said received computer program code devices independently for each of said disparate devices.

55. An apparatus that is configured to manage computer program code devices that have been received from a plurality of disparate devices, wherein said apparatus manages said received computer program code devices from said plurality of disparate devices as a group.

56. An apparatus that is configured to manage computer program code devices, said apparatus being configured to model the operation of said computer program code devices controlling the operation of a disparate device.

57. The apparatus of claim 56, wherein said apparatus is configured to perform the identical operations of said computer program code devices on said disparate device.

58. A storage medium within at least one intermittently connected computing device comprising:

a node store code storage area,

a dispatch manager code storage area, and

a synchronizing code area that synchronizes, over an intermittent connection, said node store and/or dispatch manager with a centrally maintained and stored collection of object representations.

59. The method of claim 58 wherein said intermittent connection is wireless.

60. A network comprising a plurality of devices, at least one device of said network being configured to contain a computer program code device including node store and/or dispatch manager associatively managed in accordance with a centrally maintained and stored collection of object representations.
