Abstract

A method and apparatus for drying floors and carpets using a fan for generating a pressurized air stream within a vertical cylindrical shroud that is spaced two to five inches away from the floor on a set of legs such that an opening is formed between the shroud and the floor. The air stream is directed along the cylindrical shroud vertically toward the floor. At least a peripheral portion of the air stream is exhausted from the shroud in a substantially laminar flow at an angle that is inclined from the vertical and is exhausted radially into ambient air as a substantially laminar air stream.

Claims

1. A method for drying, comprising:

with a fan positioned within a confined space, generating an air stream within the confined space;

directing the air stream crosswise to a substantially flat work surface to be dried; and

exhausting the air stream from the confined between the work surface and a lip surface of the confined space that is offset a distance in the range of two to five inches from the work surface and into ambient air space as a substantially laminar air stream positioned adjacent to the work surface.

The method of claim 1 wherein exhausting the air stream between the work surface and a lip surface offset a distance from the work surface as a substantially laminar air stream positioned adjacent to the work surface further comprises substantially confining the exhausted air stream within an envelope positioned adjacent to the work surface and having a thickness substantially equivalent to the offset distance between the lip surface and the work surface.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising extending the envelope containing the air stream for a minimum radial distance of approximately six feet.

The method of claim 1, further comprising positioning a fan grille adjacent to the lip surface, the grille directing a central portion the air stream directly against a portion of to the work surface positioned opposite from the lip surface and substantially central thereof, and directing an annular portion of the air stream crosswise to the work surface.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein exhausting the air stream between the work surface and lip surface further comprises exhausting the air stream in a substantially radial pattern.

The method of claim 1 wherein exhausting the air stream between the work surface and a lip surface offset a distance from the work surface into ambient air space as a substantially laminar air stream positioned adjacent to the work surface further comprises causing the exhausted air stream to decay upon contact with an upright obstruction.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising exhausting a central portion the air stream directly against a portion of to the work surface positioned opposite from the lip surface and substantially central thereof.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising substantially uniformly spacing the lip surface relative to the work surface to be dried.
