Abstract

A method, system, and computer program product for transferring N table instances X₁, X₂, . . . , X_N of a table T from a source database S to destination databases D₁, D₂, . . . , D_N, respectively. The method is implemented by executing a computer code by a processor of a computer system. N is at least 1. For I=1, 2, . . . , N the method includes: determining whether the table T has been defined for destination database D_I, and if it is determined that the table T has not been defined for the destination database D_I, then defining the table T for the destination database D_I; and transferring the instance X_I of the N table instances from the source database S into the defined table T of the destination database D_I.

Claims

1. A method for transferring table instances X₁, X₂, . . . , X_N of a table T from a source database S to N destination databases D₁, D₂, . . . , D_N, respectively, said method being implemented by executing a computer code by a processor of a computer system, said N being at least 1, said method comprising for I=1, 2, . . . , N:

determining whether the table T has been defined for destination database D_I, and if said determining determines that the table T has not been defined for the destination database D_I then defining the table T for the destination database D_I; and

transferring the instance X_I of the N table instances from the source database S into the defined table T of the destination database D_I.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein N is at least 2.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein X₁ is equal to X₂.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein X₁ is unequal to X₂.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein said transferring comprises:

selecting the instance X_I from the source database S; and

inserting the selected instance X_I into the defined table T of the destination database D_I.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein said determining and said selecting are implemented by a single database query statement.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said determining, defining, and transferring are implemented by structured query language (SQL) statements.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said defining comprises:

providing metadata sufficient for defining the table T; and

executing a database table-defining query statement that defines the table T, said database table-defining query statement utilizing the metadata.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein said providing metadata comprises executing a metadata database query statement on the source database S, wherein said executing comprises returning said metadata.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein said transferring comprises selecting the instance X_I from the source database S and inserting the selected instance X_I into the defined table T of the destination database D_I, and wherein said selecting is implemented by a database query statement that returns both the instance X_I and the metadata.

11. A computer system comprising a processor and a computer readable memory unit coupled to the processor, said memory unit containing computer code that when executed by the processor implement a method for transferring table instances X₁, X₂, . . . , X_N of a table T from a source database S to destination databases D₁, D₂, . . . , D_N, respectively, said N being at least 1, said method comprising for I=1, 2, . . . , N:

determining whether the table T has been defined for destination database D_I, and if said determining determines that the table T has not been defined for the destination database D_I then defining the table T for the destination database D_I; and

transferring the instance X_I of the N table instances from the source database S into the defined table T of the destination database D_I.

12. The computer system of claim 11, wherein N is at least 2.

13. The computer system of claim 12, wherein X₁ is equal to X₂.

14. The computer system of claim 12, wherein X₁ is unequal to X₂.

15. The computer system of claim 11, wherein said transferring comprises:

selecting the instance X_I from the source database S; and

inserting the selected instance X_I into the defined table T of the destination database D_I.

16. The computer system of claim 15, wherein said determining and said selecting are implemented by a single database query statement.

17. The computer system of claim 11, wherein said determining, defining, and transferring are implemented by structured query language (SQL) statements.

18. The computer system of claim 11, wherein said defining comprises:

providing metadata sufficient for defining the table T; and

executing a database table-defining query statement that defines the table T, said database table-defining query statement utilizing the metadata.

19. The computer system of claim 18, wherein said providing metadata comprises executing a metadata database query statement on the source database S, wherein said executing comprises returning said metadata.

20. The computer system of claim 18, wherein said transferring comprises selecting the instance X_I from the source database S and inserting the selected instance X_I into the defined table T of the destination database D_I, and wherein said selecting is implemented by a database query statement that returns both the instance X_I and the metadata.

21. A computer program product, comprising a computer usable medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein, said computer readable program code comprising an algorithm adapted to implement a method for transferring table instances X₁, X₂, . . . , X_N of a table T from a source database S to destination databases D₁, D₂, . . . , D_N, respectively, said N being at least 1, said method comprising:

determining whether the table T has been defined for destination database D_I, and if said determining determines that the table T has not been defined for the destination database D_I then defining the table T for the destination database D_I; and

transferring the instance X_I of the N table instances from the source database S into the defined table T of the destination database D_I.

22. The computer program product of claim 21, wherein N is at least 2.

23. The computer program product of claim 22, wherein X₁ is equal to X₂.

24. The computer program product of claim 22, wherein X₁ is unequal to X₂.

25. The computer program product of claim 21, wherein said transferring comprises:

selecting the instance X_I from the source database S; and

inserting the selected instance X_I into the defined table T of the destination database D_I.

26. The computer program product of claim 25, wherein said determining and said selecting are implemented by a single database query statement.

27. The computer program product of claim 21, wherein said determining, defining, and transferring are implemented by structured query language (SQL) statements.

28. The computer program product of claim 21, wherein said defining comprises:

providing metadata sufficient for defining the table T; and

executing a database table-defining query statement that defines the table T, said database table-defining query statement utilizing the metadata.

29. The computer program product of claim 28, wherein said providing metadata comprises executing a metadata database query statement on the source database S, wherein said executing comprises returning said metadata.

30. The computer program product of claim 28, wherein said transferring comprises selecting the instance X_I from the source database S and inserting the selected instance X_I into the defined table T of the destination database D_I, and wherein said selecting is implemented by a database query statement that returns both the instance X_I and the metadata.

31. A method for deploying computing infrastructure, comprising integrating computer-readable code into a computing system, wherein the code in combination with the computing system is capable of performing a process for transferring table instances X₁, X₂, . . . , X_N of a table T from a source database S to destination databases D₁, D₂, . . . , D_N, respectively, said process being implemented by executing a computer code by a processor of a computer system, said N being at least 1, said process comprising for I=1, 2, . . . , N:

determining whether the table T has been defined for destination database D_I, and if said determining determines that the table T has not been defined for the destination database D_I then defining the table T for the destination database D_I; and

transferring the instance X_I of the N table instances from the source database S into the defined table T of the destination database D_I.

32. The method of claim 31, wherein N is at least 2.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein X₁ is equal to X₂.

34. The method of claim 32, wherein X₁ is unequal to X₂.

35. The method of claim 31, wherein said transferring comprises:

selecting the instance X_I from the source database S; and

inserting the selected instance X_I into the defined table T of the destination database D_I.

36. The method of claim 35, wherein said determining and said selecting are implemented by a single database query statement.

37. The method of claim 31, wherein said determining, defining, and transferring are implemented by structured query language (SQL) statements.

38. The method of claim 31, wherein said defining comprises:

providing metadata sufficient for defining the table T; and

executing a database table-defining query statement that defines the table T, said database table-defining query statement utilizing the metadata.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein said providing metadata comprises executing a metadata database query statement on the source database S, wherein said executing comprises returning said metadata.

40. The method of claim 38, wherein said transferring comprises selecting the instance X_I from the source database S and inserting the selected instance X_I into the defined table T of the destination database D_I, and wherein said selecting is implemented by a database query statement that returns both the instance X_I and the metadata.
