Abstract

A computer architecture for enterprise device applications that provides a real-time, bi-directional communication layer for device communication. An identity-based communications layer provides for secure, end-to-end telemetry and control communications by enabling mutual authentication and encryption between the devices and the enterprise. A unique identity is assigned to each device, user and application to provide security services. The unique identity is independent of a network-address. Security information and a network address may be associated with the unique identity.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

RFID readers;

an RFID controller operably connected to the RFID readers; and

an enterprise application environment running application components that interpret inbound RFID data from the RFID controller.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the application components apply business rules to inbound RFID data from the RFID controller.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the application components apply application specified data validation to inbound RFID data from the RFID controller.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the application components compare inbound RFID data from the RFID controller to alarm set points.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein additional applications components perform data transformations to prepare the RFID data for use by other applications.

6. The system of claims 1, wherein inbound RFID data is used by a database.

7. The system of claims 1, wherein the inbound RFID data is sent to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein application logic is triggered by specific inbound RFID data.

9. The system of claim 1, further comprising monitors to detect the health of RFID hardware.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the enterprise application environment includes application components for policy and system administration of the RFID system.

11. The system of 1, further comprising additional RFID controllers interacting with the enterprise application environment.

12. The system of claims 11, wherein each additional RFID controller is associated with at least one RFID reader.

13. A system comprising:

RFID readers;

an RFID controller operably connected to the RFID readers; and

an enterprise application environment running multiple applications that use RFID data sent from the RFID controller.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the enterprise application runs application components that apply business rules to inbound RFID data from the RFID controllers.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein additional applications components perform data transformations to prepare the RFID data for use by other applications.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein application logic is triggered by specific inbound RFID data.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the enterprise application environment includes application components for policy and system administration of the RFID system.

20. The system of claim 13, further comprising at least one application component at the enterprise application environment to setup the RFID readers.

21. The system of claim 13, further comprising at least one application component at the enterprise application environment to manage the RFID controller.

18. The system of 13, further comprising additional RFID controllers interacting with the enterprise application environment.

19. The system of 13, further comprising at least one application component at the enterprise application environment to manage the RFID readers.
