Abstract

A wide Mw gel that includes an A-B-A triblock copolymer with the copolymer having a molecular weight distributed across a range rather than centered about a single data point.

Claims

1. A wide Mw gelatinous elastomer comprising:

a quantity of SEBS triblock copolymer,

a quantity of a plasticizer,

said triblock copolymer and said plasticizer being mixed to form a gelatinous elastomer,

said glelatinous elastomer being a wide Mw gel,

said wide Mw gel having at least 80% of its copolymer molecules being distributed between a molecular weight of 150,000 and 250,000, and

said wide Mw gel having less than 50% of its copolymer molecules centered about any particular molecular weight.

2. A gel as recited in claim 1 wherein said wide Mw gel has a lower melt viscosity than a gel composed of the same ratio of SEBS and plasticizer with the SEBS being centered around a single molecular weight and of about the same overall molecular weight as the copolymer in the wide Mw gel.

A gel as recited in claim 1 wherein said wide Mw gel has a lower processing temperature than a gel composed of the same ratio of SEBS and plasticizer with the SEBS being centered around a single molecular weight and of about the same overall molecular weight as the the copolymer in the wide Mw gel.

4. A gel as recited in claim 1 further comprising microspheres.

5. A wide Mw gelatinous elastomer comprising:

a quantity of triblock copolymer,

a quantity of a plasticizer,

said triblock copolymer and said plasticizer being mixed to form a gelatinous elastomer,

said glelatinous elastomer being a wide Mw gel,

said wide Mw gel having at least 80% of its copolymer molecules being distributed between a molecular weight of 100,000 and 400,000, and

said wide Mw gel having less than 50% of its copolymer molecules centered about any particular molecular weight.

6. A gel as recited in claim 5 wherein said wide Mw gel has a lower melt viscosity than a gel composed of the same ratio of SEBS and plasticizer with the SEBS being centered around a single molecular weight and of about the same overall molecular weight as the the copolymer in the wide Mw gel.

7. A gel as recited in claim 5 wherein said wide Mw gel has a lower processing temperature than a gel composed of the same ratio of SEBS and plasticizer with the SEBS being centered around a single molecular weight and of about the same overall molecular weight as the copolymer in the wide Mw gel.

8. A wide Mw gelatinous elastomer comprising:

a quantity of SEBS triblock copolymer,

a quantity of a plasticizer,

said triblock copolymer and said plasticizer being mixed to form a gelatinous elastomer,

said glelatinous elastomer being a wide Mw gel,

said wide Mw gel having a majority of its copolymer molecules being distributed between a fist molecular weight and a second molecular weight, wherein said first molecular weight is less than said second molecular weight, and

wherein said distribution of copolymer molecules is a generally even distribution without a peak around a particular molecular weight, and

said wide Mw gel having less than 50% of its copolymer molecules centered about any particular molecular weight.

9. A gel as recited in claim 8 wherein said wide Mw gel has a lower melt viscosity than a gel composed of the same ratio of SEBS and plasticizer with the SEBS being centered around a single molecular weight and of about the same overall molecular weight as the copolymer in the wide Mw gel.

A gel as recited in claim 8 wherein said wide Mw gel has a lower processing temperature than a gel composed of the same ratio of SEBS and plasticizer with the SEBS being centered around a single molecular weight and of about the same overall molecular weight as the copolymer in the wide Mw gel.

11. A gel as recited in claim 8 further comprising microspheres.
