Abstract

A system and method for data communication connecting on-line networks with on-line and off-line computers. The present system provides for broadcast of up to the minute notification centric information thereby providing an instant call to action for users who are provided with the ability to instantaneously retrieve further detailed information. The notification centric portions of information is wirelessly broadcast to wireless receiving devices which are attached to computing devices. Upon receipt of the information at the personal computer, the user is notified through different multimedia alerts that there is an incoming message. Wirelessly broadcasted URL'"'"'s, associated with the data, are embedded in data packets and provide an automated wired or wireless connection back to the information source for obtaining detailed data.

Claims

1. A method for transmitting data to selected remote computing devices, comprising the steps of:

transmitting data from an information source to a central broadcast server;

providing data to servers in the central broadcast server;

transmitting the data to a content manager for determining how the data is handled;

transmitting the data from the content manager to an information gateway for building data blocks and assigning addresses to the data blocks; and

transmitting the data blocks to receivers communicating with the selected remote computing devices; and

notifying said computing devices of receipt of said preprocessed data whether said computing devices are on or off.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein transmitting the data from the content manager to the information gateway further comprises building data blocks and assigning addresses to the data blocks based on information in a subscriber database.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein transmitting the data blocks to the receivers communicating with the selected remote computing devices, further comprises wirelessly transmitting the data blocks to the receivers.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein wirelessly transmitting the data blocks to the receivers further comprises transmitting the data blocks utilizing an FM subcarrier, a digital carrier, an analog carrier, a cellular carrier, a GSM carrier or a PCS carrier.

The method of claim 1, wherein transmitting the data from the content manager to the information gateway for building the data blocks and assigning the addresses to the data blocks comprises attaching to the data blocks an address location of the preprocessed data for providing an automatic connection back to the information source for obtaining the preprocessed data.

6. A method for transmitting data to selected remote computing devices, comprising:

transmitting data from an information source to a central broadcast server;

preprocessing the data at the central broadcast server;

transmitting the preprocessed data to receivers communicating with the selected remote computing devices;

receiving acknowledgement data from one or more of the remote receivers that indicates that the selected remote computing device associated with the receiver is active; and

transmitting additional data in response to the indication that the selected remote computing device associated with the receiver is active.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein transmitting the preprocessed data comprises assigning addresses to the preprocessed data based on information in a subscriber database.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein transmitting the preprocessed data comprises wirelessly transmitting the preprocessed data.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein wirelessly transmitting the preprocessed data further comprises transmitting the preprocessed data utilizing an FM subcarrier, a digital carrier, an analog carrier, a cellular carrier, a GSM carrier or a PCS carrier.
