Abstract

Systems, methods, and device are provided for generating a route based on a distance. One method embodiment includes program instructions which execute to receive a distance input and to generate a route based on the distance input.

Claims

5-1. The device of claim 1, wherein the route includes a first leg and a second leg, wherein the second leg is different from the first leg.

9. An electronic system, comprising:

a first computing device connectable to a network, wherein the first computing device includes;

a processor,

a memory in communication with the processor,

a display in communication with the processor and memory; and

program instructions storable in memory and executable by the processor to receive a distance and to generate a route based on a starting location, the distance, and a selectable set of criteria.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the first computing device includes a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, and wherein the starting location is determined based on GPS signals reflecting a location of the first computing device when the route is generated.

11. The system of claim 9, wherein the first computing device is adapted to be connected to a remote server over the network and the server includes a number of user profiles.

12. The system of claim 9, wherein the server is adapted to provide a notification to the first computing device based on an accessed user profile.

13. The system of claim 9, wherein the notification includes notifications selected from the group of:

a race registration;

a running club membership;

a running gear advertisement; and

a training instruction.

14. The system of claim 9, wherein the program instructions further execute to generate the route based on a selectable training routine.

15. The system of claim 9, wherein the program instructions execute to provide a recommended distance based on a training routine for a particular race distance.

16. The system of claim 9, wherein the selectable set of criteria are selectable from the group of:

a proximity to hiking trails;

use of city streets;

use of pedestrian paths;

a path composition;

a path terrain;

geographical features;

elevation;

safety features; and

a particular facility along the route.

17. The system of claim 16 wherein the particular facility is selected from the group:

a refreshment facility;

a lodging facility;

a rest room facility; and

a shopping facility.

18. The system of claim 9, wherein the selectable criteria can each include a selectable rating factor.

19. The system of claim 18 wherein the program instructions execute to generate the route based on an analysis of selected criteria and selected rating factors.

20. The system of claim 9, wherein the route begins and ends at a location different from a location of the first computing device when the route was generated.

21. The system of claim 9, wherein the program instructions execute to maintain a training log.

22. The system of claim 9, wherein the device is a portable handheld device attachable to another physical object.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the device includes a GPS receiver and is adapted to track the device along the route to automatically record a training log.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the program instructions execute to generate a diversity of selectable routes based on the training log.

25. The system of claim 24, wherein the program instructions execute to record a performance in traversing the route.

26. A computer readable medium having instructions executable for causing a device to perform a method, comprising:

receiving a distance input; and

generating a route based on the distance input.
