Abstract

A system and method for training a user to perform a flick gesture is described. A flick gesture is a simple gesture that may be easily detected and is characterized by minimal interference with other applications or gestures.

Claims

1. A process for initiating training based on user action comprising the steps of:

detecting at least one of a performance of a gesture and user input controlling a scroll bar;

launching said training based on said detection step.

2. The process according to claim 1, further comprising the step of:

determining whether a current user has ever launched said training, wherein said launching step is dependent on said determining step.

3. The process according to claim 1, further comprising the step of:

determining whether a current user has changed settings regarding said gesture, wherein said launching step is dependent on said determining step.

4. The process according to claim 1, further comprising the step of:

determining whether a user has been previously notified a predetermined number of times of the presence of said training,

wherein said launching step is dependent on said determining step.

5. The process according to claim 1, further comprising the step of:

determining whether a predetermined period of time has passed,

wherein said launching step is dependent on said determining step.

6. The process according to claim 1, further comprising the step of:

determining whether another notification is currently displayed,

wherein said launching step is dependent on said determining step.

7. The process according to claim 1, further comprising the step of:

determining whether said system has received user input controlling a scrollbar after a predetermined period of time has elapsed since a user first logged into said system,

wherein said launching step is dependent on said determining step.

8. A system for displaying a notification that a training procedure exists for performing a gesture, said system comprising:

an input for receiving user input, said user input relating to a flick gesture;

a storage;

a processor that receives said user input, said processor detects whether at least one of a flick gesture was performed and a scroll bar controlled by said user input,

wherein said processor launches said training based on said detection.

9. The system according to claim 8, said processor determines whether a current user has ever launched said training, such that said processor launching said training is dependent on said determination.

10. The system according to claim 8, said processor determines whether a current user has changed settings regarding said gesture, such that said processor launching said training is dependent on said determination.

11. The system according to claim 8, said processor determines whether a user has been previously notified a predetermined number of times of the presence of said training,

such that said processor launching said training is dependent on said determination.

12. The system according to claim 8, said processor determines whether a predetermined period of time has passed,

such that said processor launching said training is dependent on said determination.

13. The system according to claim 8, said processor determines whether another notification is currently displayed,

such that said processor launching said training is dependent on said determination.

14. The system according to claim 8, said processor determines a predetermined period of time has elapsed since a user first logged into said system after receiving said user input controlling a scroll bar,

such that said processor launching said training is dependent on said determination.
