Abstract

A device for providing a communication path between two or more wireless telephones via one or more wireless transceivers is disclosed. The device includes a housing that includes a mobile switching center module and includes a base station controller module. Further, in another particular embodiment, the mobile switching center module includes a program for switching received telephone calls. Additionally, the mobile switching center module includes a program to establish a peer-to-peer connection with a remote distributed mobile architecture server. The mobile switching center module further includes a program to transmit telephone calls to a remote distributed mobile architecture server via one or more peer-to-peer Internet protocol connections.

Claims

1. A device for providing a communication path between two or more wireless telephones via one or more wireless transceivers, the device having a volume less than 150,000 centimeters cubed.

2. The device of claim 1, further comprising a housing comprising:

a mobile switching center module; and

a base station controller module.

3. The device of claim 2, wherein the mobile switching center module comprises a program for switching received telephone calls.

4. The device of claim 3, wherein the mobile switching center module further comprises a program to establish a peer-to-peer connection with a remote distributed mobile architecture server.

5. The device of claim 4, wherein the mobile switching center module further comprises a program to transmit telephone calls to a remote distributed mobile architecture server via one or more peer-to-peer Internet protocol connections.

6. The device of claim 5, wherein the base station controller module comprises a program to manage one or more radio resources of one of the wireless transceivers.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein the device has a volume less than 16,000 centimeters cubed.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein the device has a volume less than 6,000 centimeters cubed.

9. A device for providing a communication path between two or more wireless telephones via one or more wireless transceivers, the device weighing less than 50 kilograms.

10. The device of claim 9, further comprising a housing comprising:

a mobile switching center module; and

a base station controller module.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein the mobile switching center module comprises a program for switching received telephone calls.

12. The device of claim 11, wherein the mobile switching center module further comprises a program to establish a peer-to-peer connection with a remote distributed mobile architecture server.

13. The device of claim 12, wherein the mobile switching center module further comprises a program to transmit telephone calls to a remote distributed mobile architecture server via one or more peer-to-peer Internet protocol connections.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein the base station controller module comprises a program to manage one or more radio resources of one of the wireless transceivers.

15. The device of claim 9, wherein the device weighs less than 20 kilograms.

16. The device of claim 9, wherein the device weighs less than 6 kilograms.

17. The device of claim 9, wherein the device is operable from negative twenty degrees Celsius and to positive fifty-five degrees Celsius.

18. The device of claim 9, wherein the device is portable.

19. A portable computer device comprising:

an interface configured for direct physical connection to a base transceiver station, wherein the portable computer device provides a call routing function between a first wireless communication and a second wireless communication subscriber.

20. A portable computer device directly coupled to a base transceiver station, the portable computer device comprising a base station controller.

21. The portable computer device of claim 20, wherein the portable computer device provides wireless communication.

22. A device for providing a communication path between two or more wireless telephones via one or more wireless transceivers, the device comprising:

a base;

a lid coupled to the base; and

a display incorporated into the lid.

23. The device of claim 22, further comprising a hinge, the hinge coupling the lid to the base.

24. A device for providing a communication path between two or more wireless telephones via one or more wireless transceivers, the device comprising:

a housing;

a mobile switching center module within the housing; and

a base station controller module within the housing.

25. The device of claim 24, wherein the mobile switching center module comprises a program to switch telephone calls received at the device.

26. The device of claim 25, wherein the mobile switching center module further comprises a program to establish a peer-to-peer Internet protocol connection to a remotely located distributed mobile architecture server.

27. The device of claim 26, wherein the mobile switching center module further comprises a program to transmit telephone calls to a remote distributed mobile architecture server via one or more peer-to-peer Internet protocol connections.

28. The device of claim 27, wherein the base station controller module comprises a program to manage one or more radio resources of one of the wireless transceivers.

29. A method for deploying a distributed management architecture server, the method comprising:

establishing a direct physical connection between the distributed management architecture server and a base transceiver station;

activating the distributed management architecture server; and

establishing a network connection with respect to the distributed management architecture server.

30. The method of claim 29, further comprising:

moving the distributed management architecture server to a location proximate to the base transceiver station.

31. The method of claim 30, further comprising:

opening a portion of a housing that incorporates the distributed management architecture server.

32. The method of claim 31, further comprising:

activating computer software stored within the distributed management architecture server.

33. The method of claim 32, further comprising:

initiating telephone call transmission via the distributed management architecture server.

34. The method of claim 33, wherein the network connection is established via an Internet protocol data network.

35. The method of claim 34, wherein the network connection is a peer-to-peer connection.

36. A method of replacing a distributed management architecture server, the method comprising:

disconnecting a direct physical connection between a first distributed management architecture server and a base transceiver station; and

establishing a direct physical connection between a second distributed management architecture server and the base transceiver station.

37. The method of claim 36, further comprising:

removing the first distributed management architecture server.

38. The method of claim 37, further comprising:

moving the second distributed management architecture server to a location proximate to the base transceiver station.

39. The method of claim 38, further comprising:

activating the second distributed management architecture server.

40. The method of claim 39, further comprising:

establishing a network connection to the second distributed management architecture server.

41. The method of claim 40, further comprising:

activating distributed management architecture server software within the second distributed management architecture server.

42. The method of claim 41, wherein the network connection is established via an Internet protocol data network.

43. A communication system, comprising:

at least one non land-based vehicle;

at least one satellite transceiver deployed within the at least one non land-based vehicle;

at least one base transceiver station deployed within the at least one non land-based vehicle; and

at least one distributed mobile architecture server coupled to the base transceiver station and coupled to the satellite transceiver, wherein the distributed mobile architecture server includes a mobile switching center module and a base station controller module disposed within the same housing.

44. The system of claim 43, wherein the non land-based vehicle is an airplane.

45. The system of claim 44, wherein the non land-based vehicle is a ship.

46. The system of claim 43, wherein the distributed mobile architecture server is a single board processor.

47. The system of claim 46, wherein the distributed mobile architecture server does not require a fan.
