Abstract

The present invention assists the critical real-time decision making required to make important decision on bidding on various customer procurement commodities in a wireless display advertising markets. The invention provides dynamic pricing as a function of the criteria of the wireless advertising criteria, such as exposures, type of advertisers and geography. In a preferred embodiment, the present invention is a virtual or physical e-commerce application with an interface connected to the wireless advertisement procurement vendors (either the advertising vendor or the wireless telecommunication vendor). A pool of bidders can analyze any tracking data for effective placement in the wireless advertising spaces, such as cell phones, PDAs, or laptops connected to a public or private WAN, based on a number of factors.

Claims

1. A method for generating revenue from advertising, including the acts of:

providing a consumer with a wireless electronic device;

said wireless device capable of both being in advertisement accepting and rejecting modes;

providing wireless telecommunications services for said customer on said wireless device;

determining if said wireless device is in said mode for accepting advertisements; and

if said wireless device is in said mode for accepting advertisements, crediting said consumer for telecommunications services for a discrete period of time.

2. The method as recited in claim 1, further comprising the act of charging said consumer for telecommunications service for said discrete period of time if said wireless device is in said advertising rejecting mode.

3. The method as recited in claim 2, wherein said determining step is periodically performed.

4. The method as recited in claim 3, wherein said period is hourly.

5. The method as recited in claim 1, further comprising the step of notifying a third-party advertiser is said wireless device is in said advertising accepting mode.

6. The method as recited in claim 1, further comprising the act of placing an advertisement on said wireless device at the request of a third party advertiser.

7. The method as recited in claim 6, further comprising the act of billing said advertiser for said placement of said advertisement.

8. The method as recited in claim 7, wherein the amount of said billing of said third-party advertiser is correlated to an amount credited to said consumer during said crediting step.

9. A method for generating revenue from advertising, including the acts of:

providing a consumer with a wireless electronic device;

said wireless device capable of accepting advertisements;

providing free wireless telecommunications services for said customer on said wireless device;

determining if said wireless device is turned on during a set of specified advertising periods;

if said phone is not turned on during one or more of said set of specified advertising periods suspending said free wireless telecommunication services; and

if said phone is turned on, placing advertisements on said phone during said specified advertising periods.

10. The method as recited in claim 9, further comprising the acts of:

selling advertising space on said wireless devices to third-party advertisers; and

charging said advertisers for said advertisement placed on said phone.

11. A method for assisting a user in the procurement of an advertising space on a wireless device, said wireless device have a display device including:

calculating a gross margin for said at least one product or service based on said desired margin;

accessing performance data, said performance data related to at least one characteristic relating to said wireless display space;

determining the relative cost of a successful advertising event for said at least one product or service; and

providing a advertisement price target, wherein said at least one characteristic relating to said wireless display space includes the cost of sharing said desired margin with a telecommunications provider that assist in said placement of said advertisement on said wireless display.

12. The method recited in claim 11, wherein said at least one characteristic includes geographical data and performance data related to said geographic data.

13. The method as recited in claim 11, wherein said desired margin is based on a net margin of said at least one product or service.

14. The method as recited in claim 11, wherein said applying a set of criteria includes the act of linking with a financial software package.

15. The method recited in claim 11, wherein said method is automatically activated by a wireless display space auction alert, said alert notifying a user of the availability of said wireless display space.

16. The method as recited in claim 11, further including the act of recording the results of said bidding and storing in a central location.

17. The method as recited in claim 11, wherein said telecommunications providers notifies a group of potential purchasers of the availability of said wireless advertising display space.

18. The method as recited in claim 17, wherein the purchase price of said wireless advertising display space is dynamic linked to at least one variable characteristic.

19. The method as recited in claim 18, wherein said telecommunications provider tracks the availability of a plurality of said wireless advertising display spaces available, and provides results to said potential purchasers.

20. The method as recited in claim 19, wherein said tracking of said availability of said plurality of said wireless advertising display spaces is detected by a user-activated device on each of wireless devices containing said wireless advertising display space.
