Abstract

A manifold compatibility omni axis, electronic human interface device comprises a controller operatively coupled to an omni axis steering device having one or more attachments for motion detection, and a stationary fitness device operatively coupled to the controller. The controller comprises a re-centerer for re-centering one or more axis of movement, and a ratio processor for interpreting, transmitting, and adjusting one or more ratios for speed and other axis of movement. The controller is operatively coupled to a computer via a standard interface. The computer is configured to play a virtual reality program based at least in part on input from the controller. The controller is configured to mimic natural steering movements, making a user'"'"'s physical movements with respect to the omni axis steering device and the stationary fitness device closely resemble movements in the virtual reality program.

Claims

1. A manifold compatibility omni axis, electronic human interface device, comprising:

a controller operatively coupled to an omni axis steering device having one or more attachments for motion detection, said controller comprising;

a re-centerer for re-centering one or more axis of movement; and

a ratio processor for interpreting, transmitting, and adjusting one or more ratios for speed and other axis of movement, said controller operatively coupled to a computer via a standard interface, said computer configured to play a virtual reality program based at least in part on input from said controller; and

a stationary fitness device operatively coupled to said controller, said controller configured to mimic natural steering movements, making a user'"'"'s physical movements with respect to said omni axis steering device and said stationary fitness device closely resemble movements in said virtual reality program.

2. The device of claim 1 wherein said ratio processor is electronic.

3. The device of claim 1 wherein said re-centerer is electronic.

4. The device of claim 1 wherein said re-centerer is mechanical.

5. The device of claim 1 wherein said standard interface comprises a USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface.

6. The device of claim 1 wherein said standard interface comprises a PS/2 interface.

7. The device of claim 1 wherein said standard interface comprises an RS-232C (Recommended Standard 232C) interface.

8. The device of claim 1 wherein said virtual reality program comprises a virtual reality training program.

9. The device of claim 1 wherein said virtual reality program comprises a virtual reality gaming program.

10. The device of claim 1 wherein said stationary fitness device comprises a treadmill.

11. A manifold compatibility omni axis, electronic human interface device, comprising:

a controlling means operatively coupled to an omni axis steering means having one or more attachments for motion detection, said controlling means comprising;

a re-centering means for re-centering one or more axis of movement; and

a ratio processing means for interpreting, transmitting, and adjusting one or more ratios for speed and other axis of movement, said controlling means operatively coupled to a computer via a standard interface, said computer configured to play a virtual reality program based at least in part on input from said controller; and

a stationary fitness means operatively coupled to said controller, said controlling means configured to mimic natural steering movements, making a user'"'"'s physical movements with respect to said omni axis steering device and said stationary fitness means closely resemble movements in said virtual reality program.

12. The device of claim 11 wherein said ratio processing means is electronic.

13. The device of claim 11 wherein said re-centering means is electronic.

14. The device of claim 11 wherein said re-centering means is mechanical.

15. The device of claim 11 wherein said standard interface comprises a USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface.

16. The device of claim 11 wherein said standard interface comprises a PS/2 interface.

17. The device of claim 11 wherein said standard interface comprises an RS-232C (Recommended Standard 232C) interface.

18. The device of claim 11 wherein said virtual reality program comprises a virtual reality training program.

19. The device of claim 11 wherein said virtual reality program comprises a virtual reality gaming program.

20. The device of claim 11 wherein said stationary fitness means comprises a treadmill.

21. A method for processing input in a manifold compatibility omni axis, electronic human interface device, comprising:

receiving in a controller coupled to an omni axis steering device having one or more attachments for motion detection, input from one or more encoders representing one or more axis of movement, said controller operatively coupled to a stationary fitness device;

modifying said input to re-center said one or more axis of movement;

communicating said modified input to a computer via a standard interface, said computer configured to play a virtual reality program based at least in part on said modified input, making a user'"'"'s physical movements with respect to said omni axis steering device and said stationary fitness device closely resemble movements in said virtual reality program.

22. The method of claim 21 wherein said standard interface comprises a USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface.

23. The method of claim 21 wherein said standard interface comprises a PS/2 interface.

24. The method of claim 21 wherein said standard interface comprises an RS-232C (Recommended Standard 232C) interface.

25. The method of claim 21 wherein said virtual reality program comprises a virtual reality training program.

26. The method of claim 21 wherein said virtual reality program comprises a virtual reality gaming program.

27. The method of claim 21 wherein said stationary fitness device comprises a treadmill.

28. A program storage device readable by a machine, embodying a program of instructions executable by the machine to perform a method for processing input in a manifold compatibility omni axis, electronic human interface device, the method comprising:

receiving in a controller coupled to an omni axis steering device having one or more attachments for motion detection, input from one or more encoders representing one or more axis of movement, said controller operatively coupled to a stationary fitness device;

modifying said input to re-center said one or more axis of movement;

communicating said modified input to a computer via a standard interface, said computer configured to play a virtual reality program based at least in part on said modified input, making a user'"'"'s physical movements with respect to said omni axis steering device and said stationary fitness device closely resemble movements in said virtual reality program.

29. The program storage device of claim 28 wherein said standard interface comprises a USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface.

30. The program storage device of claim 28 wherein said standard interface comprises a PS/2 interface.
