Abstract

A system and method for deploying an occluding device that can be used to remodel an aneurysm within the vessel by, for example, neck reconstruction or balloon remodeling. The system comprises an introducer sheath and an assembly for carrying the occluding device. The assembly includes an elongated flexible member having an occluding device retaining member for receiving a first end of the occluding device, a proximally positioned retaining member for engaging a second end of the occluding device and a support surrounding a portion of the elongated flexible member over which the occluding device can be postioned.

Claims

1. An elongated flexible member for supporting and deploying an occluding device, the member receiving a first end of the occluding device and engaging a second end of the occluding device, and comprising an outer surface for engaging an inner surface of said occluding device, wherein the occluding device is capable of being expanded and retracted based on input pressure.

2. The member of claim 1 further comprising an introducer sheath for carrying the occluding device, the occluding device located distal to the introducer sheath.

3. The member of claim 2 wherein the occluding device is expanded by air pressure administered via the elongated flexible member.

4. The member of claim 3 wherein deploying the distal end of the occluding device is responsive to a second user input.

5. The member of claim 3 wherein the occluding device is in an expanded state in a vessel and repositioned in the vessel in the expanded state.

6. The member of claim 5 wherein the occluding device is repositioned in a distal direction in the vessel responsive to a pressure received at a proximal end of the occluding device.

7. The member of claim 6 wherein the pressure received at the proximal end of the occluding device exceeds a frictional force between the occluding device and the vessel.

8. The member of claim 1 wherein the occluding device is expanded by fluid pressure administered via the elongated flexible member.

9. The member of claim 1 wherein the occluding device comprises a plurality of helically-wound material in a lattice structure, the lattice structure having an adjustable lattice density, the lattice density being adjusted responsive to a second user input.

10. The member of claim 9 wherein the second user input is applied at a proximal end of the member.

11. The member of claim 1 wherein the occluding device is capable of expanding to create a channel.

12. The member of claim 5 further comprising an introducer sheath and a guidewire having a flexible atraumatic tip.

13. The member of claim 5 further comprising a support extending along a portion of the member and having an outer surface for engaging an inner surface of the occluding device, and further comprising a proximally positioned retaining member including a biasing member that urges the occluding device toward a distal end of the member when the occluding device is positioned on the support.

14. The member of claim 5 further comprising a proximally positioned retaining member for engaging the second end of the occluding device, wherein the proximally positioned retaining member includes a portion of the member.

15. The member of claim 5 further comprising an occluding device retaining member for receiving the first end of the occluding device, the occluding device retaining member including an internal opening for receiving the first end of the occluding device.

16. The member of claim 5 further comprising an occluding device retaining member for receiving the first end of the occluding device, the occluding device retaining member including a coiled spring.

17. The member of claim 5 further compromising a support extending along a portion of the member and an occluding device retaining member for receiving the first end of the occluding device, the occluding device retaining member having an outer surface that extends farther from an outer surface of the member than an outer surface of the support.

18. The member of claim 5 further compromising an introducer sheath for carrying the occluding device and a flexible guidewire that is rotatable relative to the introducer sheath and the occluding device.

19. The member of claim 5 further compromising a catheter into which the member and the occluding device can be positioned.
