Abstract

The present invention provides inducible promoter systems. In particular, the present invention provides benzoate inducible promoters and promoter systems, and modifications and uses thereof.

Claims

1. A composition comprising:

a) a benzoate inducible promoter comprising;

i) a benzoate response element comprising at least one copy of BRE6 sequence TAGTCA (SEQ ID NO;

5); and

ii) a heterologous gene promoter, and

b) a nucleic acid sequence of interest, wherein said nucleic acid sequence of interest is operably linked to said benzoate inducible promoter.

2. The composition of claim 1, wherein said heterologous gene promoter comprises a minimal gene promoter.

3. The composition of claim 1, wherein said benzoate response element comprises a fragment of SEQ ID NO:

6, wherein said fragment is at least 20 base pairs in length.

4. The composition of claim 1, wherein said benzoate response element comprises at least two copies of said BRE6 sequence TAGTCA (SEQ ID NO:

5).

5. The composition of claim 1, wherein said benzoate response element further comprises sequence GTTGTGTACATAAC (SEQ ID NO:

7).

6. The composition of claim 1, wherein said heterologous gene promoter is a plant promoter.

7. The composition of claim 1, wherein said benzoate inducible promoter and said nucleic acid sequence of interest are located on a vector.

8. The composition of claim 7, wherein said vector further comprises a nucleic acid sequence encoding a transcription factor.

9. The composition of claim 1, further comprising a transcription factor or a vector encoding a transcription factor.

10. A transgenic plant comprising:

a) a benzoate inducible promoter comprising;

i) a benzoate response element comprising at least one copy of BRE6 sequence TAGTCA (SEQ ID NO;

5); and

ii) a heterologous gene promoter, and

b) a nucleic acid sequence of interest, wherein said nucleic acid sequence of interest is operably linked to said benzoate inducible promoter.

11. The transgenic plant of claim 10, wherein said heterologous gene promoter comprises a plant minimal gene promoter.

12. The transgenic plant of claim 10, wherein said benzoate response element comprises a fragment of SEQ ID NO:

6, wherein said fragment is at least 20 base pairs in length.

13. The transgenic plant of claim 10, wherein said benzoate response element comprises at least two copies of said BRE6 sequence TAGTCA (SEQ ID NO:

5).

14. The transgenic plant of claim 10, wherein said benzoate response element further comprises sequence GTTGTGTACATAAC (SEQ ID NO:

7).

15. A transgenic seed comprising:

a) a benzoate inducible promoter comprising;

i) a benzoate response element comprising at least one copy of BRE6 sequence TAGTCA (SEQ ID NO;

5); and

ii) a heterologous gene promoter, and

b) a nucleic acid sequence of interest, wherein said nucleic acid sequence of interest is operably linked to said benzoate inducible promoter.

16. The transgenic seed of claim 15, wherein said heterologous gene promoter comprises a plant minimal gene promoter.

17. The transgenic seed of claim 15, wherein said benzoate response element comprises a fragment of SEQ ID NO:

6, wherein said fragment is at least 20 base pairs in length.

18. The transgenic seed of claim 15, wherein said benzoate response element comprises at least two copies of said BRE6 sequence TAGTCA (SEQ ID NO:

5)

19. The transgenic seed of claim 15, wherein said benzoate response element further comprises sequence GTTGTGTACATAAC (SEQ ID NO:

7).
