Abstract

A collaborative information system.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

(a) a first display device providing first data descriptive of audiovisual content;

(b) wherein said first data includes at least one of the following;

(1) program information based upon previously viewed audiovisual content;

(2) source information based upon previously viewed audiovisual content;

(3) summarization descriptions of said audiovisual content;

(4) degree of preference of said audiovisual content;

(5) information regarding said first display device;

(6) information regarding the current usage of said audiovisual content;

(7) information regarding the capabilities of said first display device;

(8) information regarding suitable usage of said audiovisual content;

(9) customization based upon a receiving device;

(10) manually selecting at least one of (1) through (9) for said receiving device which would otherwise not obtain said first data;

(c) providing said first data to a second display device to obtain a recommendation of audiovisual content.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein said first data includes said program information of said audiovisual content based upon previously viewed content.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein said program information details includes the title.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein said first data includes said content information of said audiovisual content based upon previously viewed content.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein said first data includes said summarization descriptions of said audiovisual content.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein said summary descriptions are TV-Anytime compliant.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein said first data includes said degree of preference of said audiovisual content.

8. The system of claim 7 wherein said degree of preference includes a preference description that is TV-Anytime compliant.

9. The system of claim 1 wherein said first data includes said information regarding said first display device.

10. The system of claim 9 wherein said information includes distinguishing between manual identification and automatic identification.

11. The system of claim 1 wherein said first data includes information regarding the current usage of said audiovisual content.

12. The system of claim 11 wherein said information includes temporal information.

13. The system of claim 12 wherein said temporal information is timepoints.

14. The system of claim 12 wherein said temporal information is offsets.

15. The system of claim 1 wherein said first data includes said information regarding said capabilities of said first display device.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein said information includes video information of said first display.

17. The system of claim 1 wherein said first data includes said information regarding suitable usage of said audiovisual content.

18. The system of claim 17 wherein said information includes a preference condition of a description compliant with TV-Anytime.

19. A system comprising:

(a) a first audiovisual device capable of receiving audiovisual content;

(b) a second audiovisual device capable of providing first data descriptive of audiovisual content;

(c) said first device receiving said first data in an unsolicited manner.

20. A system comprising:

(a) a first audiovisual device capable of receiving audiovisual content;

(b) said first audiovisual device capable of receiving data descriptive of said audiovisual content;

(c) said first audiovisual device capable of receiving audio information descriptive of said audiovisual content;

(d) a second audiovisual device capable of providing said data and said audio information as a recommendation to said first audiovisual device.

21. A system comprising:

(a) a first display device capable of receiving audiovisual content;

(b) said first display device capable of receiving data descriptive of said audiovisual content;

(c) a second display device capable of receiving audiovisual content;

(d) said second audiovisual device capable of receiving data descriptive of said audiovisual content;

(e) a network interconnecting said first device with said second device;

(f) said first device recommending audiovisual content based upon data provided by said second device to said first device through said network.

22. A system comprising:

(a) a first audiovisual device capable of at least one of displaying, selecting, and consuming audiovisual content;

(b) a second audiovisual device capable of at least one of displaying, selecting, and consuming audiovisual content;

(c) said first audiovisual device providing information to said second audiovisual device indicating what content is currently being displayed on said first audiovisual device;

(d) said second audiovisual device using said information as a recommendation of audiovisual content.

23. The system of claim 22 further comprising a plurality of third audiovisual device capable of at least one of displaying, selecting, and consuming audiovisual content, wherein said third audiovisual devices provide information to said second audiovisual devices indicating what content is currently being at least one of displayed, selected, and consumed on respective ones of said third audiovisual devices.

24. The system of claim 22 wherein said second audiovisual device using said information from said third audiovisual devices as a recommendation of audiovisual content.

25. The system of claim 22 wherein information includes presence based information.

26. The system of claim 22 wherein said first audiovisual device and said second audiovisual device are arranged in a peer-to-peer network.

27. The system of claim 22 wherein said first audiovisual device and said second audiovisual device are connected to a client server network.

28. The system of claim 23 wherein said third audiovisual devices are arranged in a hierarchical arrangement.

29. A system comprising:

(a) a first audiovisual device capable of displaying audiovisual content;

(b) a second audiovisual device capable of displaying audiovisual content;

(c) said first audiovisual device providing information to said second audiovisual device indicating what content is currently being at least one of displayed, selected, and consumed on said first audiovisual device;

(d) said first audiovisual device providing information to said second audiovisual device indicating what content is currently being at least one of displayed, selected, and consumed on said first audiovisual device, wherein said content of (d) is different than said content of (c);

(e) said first audiovisual device using the collection of said information as a recommendation of audiovisual content.

30. The system of claim 29 wherein said recommendation is presented to the user in the form of a list.

31. The system of claim 29 wherein said information includes presence information.

32. A system comprising:

(a) a first display device receiving first data descriptive of audiovisual content;

(b) wherein said first data includes at least one of the following;

(1) program information based upon previously viewed audiovisual content;

(2) source information based upon previously viewed audiovisual content;

(3) summarization descriptions of said audiovisual content;

(4) degree of preference of said audiovisual content;

(5) information regarding said first display device;

(6) information regarding the current usage of said audiovisual content;

(7) information regarding the capabilities of said first display device;

(8) information regarding suitable usage of said audiovisual content;

(9) customization based upon a receiving device;

(c) receiving said first data from a second display device to obtain a recommendation of audiovisual content.

33. The system of claim 32 wherein said first data includes said program information of said audiovisual content based upon previously viewed content.

34. The system of claim 32 wherein said first data includes said content information of said audiovisual content based upon previously viewed content.

35. The system of claim 32 wherein said first data includes said summarization descriptions of said audiovisual content.

36. The system of claim 32 wherein said first data includes said degree of preference of said audiovisual content.

37. The system of claim 32 wherein said first data includes said information regarding said display device.

38. The system of claim 32 wherein said first data includes said information regarding suitable usage of said audiovisual content.

39. The system of claim 38 wherein said information includes a preference condition of a description compliant with TV-Anytime.

40. A system comprising:

(a) a first display device providing first data descriptive of audiovisual content;

(b) wherein said first data includes a list of recommended said audiovisual content;

(c) providing said first data including said list to a second display device to provide a recommendation of audiovisual content.

41. The system of claim 40 wherein said recommendation is based upon a request for said list by said second display device.

42. The system of claim 40 wherein said list is modified based upon changes in consumed audiovisual content.

43. The system of claim 40 wherein said list is a secondary list that excludes content selected for consumption.

44. A system comprising:

(a) a first display device receiving first data descriptive of audiovisual content;

(b) wherein said first data includes an identification of the first display device and the general portion of said audiovisual content currently being consumed;

(c) receiving said first data from a second display device to obtain a recommendation of audiovisual content.
