Abstract

An improved human user computer interface system, providing a graphic representation of a hierarchy populated with naturally classified objects, having included therein at least one associated object having a distinct classification. Preferably, a collaborative filter is employed to define the appropriate associated object. The associated object preferably comprises a sponsored object, generating a subsidy or revenue.

Claims

1. A method of visualization of a set of objects in a computer graphic interface, comprising:

defining a hierarchy of objects, defining hierarchal relationships between a plurality of objects having associated content, the hierarchal organization being related to a respective content of an object;

supplementing the hierarchy with at least one additional object, an association of the additional object with the hierarchal nodes being based on a relationship of objects classified within a respective node and the additional object.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the additional object is associated with an object based on a collaborative filter.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the additional object comprise advertisements.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the set of objects is defined based on a search query.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the set of objects is produced by an Internet search engine.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the set of objects is produced dependent on a user profile.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the additional object is contextually appropriate for association with the hierarchal node.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein an object or additional object is selected, and subsequently a set of objects similar thereto is identified.

9. The method according to claim 1, wherein an object or additional object is selected, and the hierarchy is then transformed to place the selected object or additional object at a root node of the hierarchy.

10. The method according to claim 9, wherein hierarchal nodes above the node containing the selected object are hidden.

11. The method according to claim 1, wherein an object or additional object is selected, and a set of objects similar to the selected object or additional object is returned based on a similarity of one or more of a nature of a product, price, quality, warranty features, and service.

12. The method according to claim 1, wherein the set of objects is defined based on a Boolean search.

13. The method according to claim 1, wherein at least one object within the hierarchy is selected based on a Boolean criteria.

14. The method according to claim 1, wherein the hierarchy comprises a zoomable nested nodal hierarchy.

15. The method according to claim 1, wherein the hierarchy comprises a predetermined taxonomy.

16. The method according to claim 1, wherein the hierarchy comprises an ad hoc taxonomy.

17. The method according to claim 1, wherein the hierarchy comprises a semantic taxonomy.

18. The method according to claim 1, wherein a subset of the nodes of the hierarchy are presented to a user.

19. The method according to claim 1, wherein a first portion of the set of objects is populated into the hierarchy for presentation to a user, and a second portion is hidden from the user.

20. The method according to claim 1, further comprising the step of defining a user context and selecting a hierarchy for organization of the objects in dependence on the context.

21. The method according to claim 1, wherein the at least one additional object is a commercial promotion object, subject to pay per click compensation.

22. A method for protecting personal information, comprising:

providing an encrypted user profile;

limiting direct access to the encrypted user profile; and

producing at least one valid response, and at least one spurious response, to requests for user profile information.

23. The method according to claim 22, wherein the encrypted user profile is adaptively updated.

24. The method according to claim 22, wherein the at least one spurious response is filtered.

25. The method according to claim 22, wherein the at least one spurious response is generated according to a pseudorandom code.

26. A method of providing a human-computer user interface, comprising the steps of:

receiving an input from a user defining a set of objects from a search engine;

receiving the set of objects from the search engine, comprising a first subset selected based on a correspondence with the user input, and a second subset selected based on an economic incentive for a search engine operator; and

presenting the objects automatically organized within a hierarchy.

27. The method according to claim 26, further comprising the step of saving the hierarchy as a recallable structure.

28. The method according to claim 26, wherein further comprising the step of altering at least one of:

the set of objects presented in the hierarchy, an organization of the hierarchy, a presentation focus of the hierarchy, and a ranking of objects within the hierarchy.

29. The method according to claim 26, wherein at least one object is associated with a digital rights rule, and wherein at least one digital rights rule provides a positive incentive to the user.

30. A human computer interface system, comprising:

a client user interface system;

a server system, capable of communicating with the client user interface system; and

an applet, presenting to the user through the client user interface system, a map of relationships of information classes,

wherein;

the server executes an operation, returning a set of information,

the applet populates the map with elements of the set of information, the map being based on relationship of a content of each element with a respective class definition for a class, and

elements of the set of information within a regional cluster are priority ranked.

31. A human computer interface system, comprising:

a client user interface system;

a server system, capable of communicating with the client user interface system; and

an adaptive user profile applet, comprising a collaborative filter for initial classification, which subsequently is modified based on user observation, wherein the server executes an operation, returning a set of information, based on a user query and the applet.

32. A method for filtering user queries, comprising:

defining a user taxonomic hierarchy of interests;

correlating the user taxonomic hierarchy with a set of references taxonomic hierarchies; and

modifying the user taxonomic hierarchy based on sets of rules associated with a reference taxonomic hierarchies having high correlations.

33. A human computer interface system, comprising:

a client user interface system;

a server system, capable of communicating with the client user interface system; and

means for defining a hierarchal cluster map of data elements retrieved by the server system, and transmitting a cluster density of the cluster map to the client user interface system, wherein a hierarchy of the hierarchal cluster map is alterable.

34. A human computer interface system, comprising:

a client user interface system;

a server system, capable of communicating with the client user interface system; and

a processor for defining a hierarchal cluster map of data elements, and transmitting a cluster density of the cluster map to the client user interface system, wherein a hierarchy of the hierarchal cluster map is supplemented by context-appropriate advertising.

35. A method of visualization of a set of elements, comprising:

(a) defining a natural hierarchy of objects;

(b) receiving a user limiter to define a set of objects in the natural hierarchy;

(c) inserting at least one object extrinsic to the user limiter within the natural hierarchy of objects to provide artificial hierarchal relationships;

(d) displaying the set of objects and extrinsic objects with a graphic representation of the natural and artificial hierarchal relationships.

36. The method according to claim 35, wherein the inserting is controlled by a process of collaborative filtering.
