Abstract

Slide presentation files may be separated into one or more individual slide files, and the one or more individual slide files may be stored in a remote or local slide library. Stored individual slide files are populated with metadata for allowing subsequent search and location of individual slide files. A synchronization relationship may be established between a stored slide file and a copy of the stored slide file used in a slide presentation document. As updates are made to the stored slide file, a user of a copy of the stored slide file may be informed of and provided changes made to the original slide file via the synchronization relationship.

Claims

1. A method for utilizing individual slides from a slide presentation application document, comprising:

receiving a slide presentation document containing a presentation slide;

receiving a selection for generating a separate slide file for the presentation slide contained in the presentation document;

extracting the presentation slide from the slide presentation document and generating a slide file for the presentation slide;

populating the generated slide file with data associated with the presentation slide; and

saving the generated slide file to a memory location for subsequent use.

2. The method of claim 1, whereby populating the generated slide file with data associated with a corresponding presentation slide includes populating the generated slide file with a file name.

3. The method of claim 2, whereby populating the generated slide file with a file name includes populating the generated slide file with a file name comprising a title of the slide presentation document and an identification number for the presentation slide.

4. The method of claim 2, whereby populating the generated slide file with data associated with the presentation slide includes populating the generated slide file with a description of the presentation slide.

5. The method of claim 1, whereby during saving the generated slide file to a memory location for subsequent use, determining whether the slide file being saved to the memory location has a same file name as a slide file previously saved in the memory location.

6. The method of claim 5, whereby if the slide file being saved to the memory location has a same file name as a slide file previously saved in the memory location, providing a notification that the slide file being saved to the memory location has a same file name as a slide file previously saved to the memory location.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising allowing replacement of the slide file previously saved to the memory location with the generated slide file being saved to the memory location.

8. The method of claim 1, prior to saving the generated slide file to a memory location for subsequent use, displaying data representing the generated slide file in a graphical user interface.

9. The method of claim 8, whereby displaying data representing the generated slide file in a graphical user interface includes displaying a thumbnail image for the presentation slide associated with the slide file in the graphical user interface.

10. The method of claim 9, whereby displaying data representing the generated slide file in a graphical user interface further comprises displaying identification information for the slide file represented in the graphical user interface.

11. The method of claim 10, whereby displaying identification information for the slide file represented in the graphical user interface includes displaying a file name and a slide file description for the slide file represented in the graphical user interface.

12. A computer readable medium containing computer executable instructions which when executed by a computer perform a method for utilizing individual slides from a slide presentation application document, comprising:

receiving a slide presentation document containing a presentation slide;

receiving a selection for generating a separate slide file for the presentation slide contained in the presentation document;

extracting the presentation slide from the slide presentation document and generating a slide file for the presentation slide;

populating the generated slide file with data associated with a corresponding presentation slide including populating the generated slide file with a file name and file description;

displaying an image associated with the corresponding presentation slide in a graphical user interface; and

saving the generated slide file to a memory location for subsequent use.

13. The computer readable medium of claim 12, whereby displaying an image associated with the generated slide file in a graphical user interface includes displaying a thumbnail image of the presentation slide associated with the slide file in the graphical user interface.

14. The computer readable medium of claim 12, whereby during saving the generated slide file to a memory location for subsequent use, determining whether the slide file being saved to the memory location has a same file name as a slide file previously saved in the memory location.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 14, whereby if the slide file being saved to the memory location has a same file name as a slide file previously saved in the memory location,

providing a notification that the slide file being saved to the memory location has a same file name as a slide file previously saved to the memory location;

and

allowing replacement of the slide file previously saved to the memory location with the generated slide file being saved to the memory location.

16. The computer readable medium of claim 12, further comprising:

launching a second slide presentation application document;

searching the memory location for a desired slide file;

upon locating the desired slide file, receiving a selection of the desired slide file for insertion into the second slide presentation application document; and

automatically inserting the selected desired slide file into the second slide presentation application document.

17. A method for utilizing individual slides from a slide presentation application document, comprising:

extracting a presentation slide from a slide presentation document and generating a slide file for the extracted presentation slide;

populating the generated slide file with data associated with the extracted presentation slide;

displaying data representing the generated slide file in a graphical user interface, including displaying a thumbnail image of the extracted presentation slide in the graphical user interface;

receiving a selection for storing the generated slide file in a slide library for subsequent use; and

saving the generated slide file to the slide library for subsequent use.

18. The method of claim 17, whereby populating the generated slide file with data associated with a corresponding presentation slide includes populating the generated slide file with a file name and file description.

19. The method of claim 18, whereby during saving the generated slide file to the slide library for subsequent use, determining whether the slide file being saved to the slide library has a same file name as a slide file previously saved in the slide library.

20. The method of claim 19, whereby if the slide file being saved to the memory location has a same file name as a slide file previously saved in the memory location, providing a notification that the slide file being saved to the memory location has a same file name as a slide file previously saved to the memory location.
