Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for identifying an entity comprising placing an internal tag within the entity and placing an external tag proximate the entity wherein the internal tag and external tag are coupled.

Claims

1. A method for identifying an entity comprising

placing an internal tag within said entity and

placing an external tag proximate said entity wherein said internal tag and said external tag are coupled by a coupling means.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said coupling means comprises a communication protocol.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said communication protocol comprises electromagnetic pulses timed according to a distinguishing temporal pattern.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said coupling means comprises a distinguishing electromagnetic signal.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the distinguishing nature of said electromagnetic signal results from a distinguishing temporal pattern.

6. The method of claim 4 wherein the distinguishing nature of said electromagnetic signal results from a distinguishing combination of wavelength and temporal pattern.

7. The method of claim 4 wherein the distinguishing nature of said electromagnetic signal results from a distinguishing combination of wavelength and amplitude.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein said entity comprises a living organism.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein said living organism comprises a ruminant animal and said internal tag is placed within the stomach of said ruminant animal.

10. A device for identifying an entity comprising

an internal tag,

an external tag, and

a coupling means for coupling said internal tag and said external tag.

11. The device of claim 10 wherein said coupling means comprises a distinguishing electromagnetic signal.

12. A device for transmitting a signal from within an entity comprising,

an oscillator wherein contact is made between said oscillator and a conductive medium wherein said conductive medium comprises a constituent of said entity.

13. The device of claim 12 wherein said entity comprises a living organism.

14. The device of claim 13 wherein said living organism comprises a ruminant animal and said conductive medium comprises the rumen contents of said ruminant animal.

15. A method for transmitting a signal from within an entity comprising,

placing an oscillator within said entity and

making contact between said oscillator and a conductive medium wherein said conductive medium comprises a constituent of said entity.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein said entity comprises a living organism.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein said living organism comprises a ruminant animal and said conductive medium comprises the rumen contents of said ruminant animal.

18. A method for monitoring a parameter within an entity comprising

transmitting periodic “

all-is-well”

signals from within said entity and

ceasing to transmit said signals whenever the value of said parameter is outside a range.

19. The method of claim 18 further comprising transmitting one or more “

all-is-not-well”

signals whenever the value of said parameter is outside a range.

20. The method of claim 18 wherein said series of “

all-is-well”

signals comprises a series of pulses in accordance with a temporal pattern.

21. The method of claim 18 wherein said series of “

all-is-well”

signals comprises a series of pulses in accordance with a temporal pattern and said “

all-is-not-well”

signal comprises a pulse not coinciding with said temporal pattern.
