Abstract

Advanced patient management systems include a unit for collecting data from a device associated with a patient, and a host in communication with the unit, the host identifying a time for the device to update data on the device. The system can identify a time for the device to update data associated with the device by developing a histogram of the availability of the device for interrogation. The system can also optimize processing loads for the system by developing a histogram of the time at which the caregiver is most likely to access the system to review the collected and processed data. Methods for optimizing device data update and processing times are also included.

Claims

1. An advanced patient management system, comprising:

a unit for collecting data from a device associated with a patient; and

a host in communication with the unit, the host identifying a time for the unit to collect data from the device.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the host resets a time on the device for the device to update data.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the time for the device to update data is communicated by the host through the unit to the device.

4. The system of claim 2, wherein the host uses previous observations of availability of the device to identify the time for the device to update data.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the previous observations are used to form a histogram.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the host also identifies a time at which the caregiver is most likely to access the system.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the host monitors times at which the caregiver accesses the system to identify the time at which the caregiver is most likely to access the system.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the host creates a histogram to identify the time at which the caregiver is most likely to access the system.

9. The system of claim 6, wherein a processing load for the system is balanced by selecting a specific time for the host to analyze the device data, the specific time being selected during an interval between data collection and the time at which the caregiver is most likely to access the system.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the device is an implanted device.

11. A method for collecting and analyzing data associated with a device of a patient by an advanced patient management system, the method comprising:

identifying a time period during which the device is most likely to be available for data collection;

setting a device update time based on the time period during which the device is most likely to be available for data collection; and

setting a data collection time based on the time period during which the device is most likely to be available for data collection.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the step of identifying further comprises creating a histogram of availability of the device to identify the time period during which the device is most likely to be available for data collection.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the step of setting the device update time further comprises using the histogram to set the device update time.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the step of setting the data collection time further comprises using the histogram to set the data collection time.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising periodically recalculating the time period during which the device is most likely to be available for data collection.

16. A method for gathering and processing data associated with a device of a patient by an advanced patient management system, the method comprising:

identifying a time period during which data associated with the patient is most likely to be accessed by a caregiver;

setting an analysis time for the data based on the time period during which the data associated with the patient is most likely to be accessed; and

analyzing the data at the analysis time.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the step of analyzing further comprises setting the analysis time at a time during the time period such that a load on the advanced patient system is balanced.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the step of identifying further comprises creating a histogram of times during which the caregiver accesses the data on the advanced patient management system to determine the time period during which the data is most likely to be accessed by the caregiver.

19. The method of claim 16, further comprising periodically recalculating the time period during which the data associated with the patient is most likely to be accessed by a caregiver.

20. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

identifying a collection time period during which the device is most likely to be available for data collection;

setting a data collection time based on the collection time period during which the device is most likely to be available for data collection; and

setting a device update time based on data collection time.
