Abstract

The present invention relates generally to systems and methods for measuring an analyte in a host. More particularly, the present invention relates to systems and methods for processing sensor data, including calculating a rate of change of sensor data and/or determining an acceptability of sensor or reference data.

Claims

1. A method for analyzing data from an analyte sensor, the method comprising:

receiving sensor data from the analyte sensor, the sensor data comprising at least two sensor data points; and

calculating a rate of change of the sensor data from the sensor data points.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of calculating a rate of change comprises calculating a rate of change of the sensor data from at least three sensor data points.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising a step of smoothing the sensor data points, wherein the step of smoothing is conducted prior to the step of calculating the rate of change.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the step of smoothing is conducted using at least one of a moving average window, a regression, a finite impulse response filter, and an infinite impulse response filter.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising a step of calibrating the sensor data, wherein the step of calculating the rate of change is performed on non-calibrated sensor data.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining when at least three sensor data points increase continuously or decrease continuously, wherein the step of calculating the rate of change is performed only when at least three sensor data points increase continuously or decrease continuously.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising a step of calculating a rate of change value for at least two pairs of sensor data points.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising a step of smoothing the rate of change value.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the step of smoothing the rate of change value comprises utilizing at least one of a moving average window, a regression, a finite impulse response filter, and an infinite impulse response filter.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising a step of determining if the rate of change is above a predetermined threshold or below a predetermined threshold.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the predetermined threshold is a positive 2 mg/dL/min or a negative 2 mg/dL/min.

12. A system for analyzing data from an analyte sensor, the system comprising:

a data receiving module configured to receive sensor data from the analyte sensor, the sensor data comprising at least two sensor data points; and

a processor module configured to calculate a rate of change of the sensor data from the sensor data points.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor module calculates a rate of change of the sensor data from at least three sensor data points.

14. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor module is further configured to smooth the sensor data points prior to calculating the rate of change.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the processor module is configured to smooth the sensor data points using at least one of a moving average window, a regression, a finite impulse response filter, and an infinite impulse response filter.

16. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor module is further configured to calibrate the sensor data, and to calculate the rate of change on non-calibrated sensor data.

17. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor module is further configured to determine when at least three sensor data points increase continuously or decrease continuously, and wherein the processor module is configured to calculate the rate of change only when at least three sensor data points increase continuously or decrease continuously.

18. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor module is further configured to calculate a rate of change value for at least two pairs of sensor data points.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the processor module is further configured to smooth the rate of change value.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the processor module is further configured to smooth the pairs of sensor data points utilizing at least one of a moving average window, a regression, a finite impulse response filter, and an infinite impulse response filter.

21. The system of claim 12, wherein the processor module is further configured to determine if the rate of change is above a predetermined threshold or below a predetermined threshold.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the predetermined threshold is a positive 2 mg/dL/min or a negative 2 mg/dL/min.

23. A system for analyzing data from an analyte sensor, the system comprising:

a data receiving module configured to receive sensor data from the analyte sensor, the sensor data comprising at least two sensor data points; and

a processor module configured to calculate a rate of change of the sensor data from the sensor data points substantially without artifacts caused by noise in the sensor data.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the processor module is configured to smooth the sensor data points to accomplish calculation of a rate of change of the sensor data from the sensor data points substantially without artifacts caused by noise in the sensor data.

25. The system of claim 23, wherein the processor module is configured to calculate a rate of change value for at least two pairs of sensor data points.

26. The system of claim 25, wherein the processor module is further configured to smooth the rate of change value.

27. The system of claim 23, wherein the processor module is configured to detect noise in the sensor data.

28. The system of claim 25, wherein the processor module is configured to calculate the rate of change dependent at least in part upon whether the noise is detected.
