Abstract

A context aware data application presents information about a first user'"'"'s contact means and methodologies. The application organizes, filters and present the information taking into account multiple inputs regarding the specific context and the relationship and preferred communication means between the first user and other users seeking to contact the first user. The information allows the users seeking to make contact to quickly take an action that is expected given the context of the first user as presenting the most relevant data allows the contacting users to take actions quickly and effectively.

Claims

1. A data distribution system comprising:

a data aggregation server comprising a presence module, the presence module configured to aggregate presence data from a plurality of users;

a mobile device coupled to the data aggregation server, the mobile device configured to access the data indicating presence of the plurality of users.

2. The data distribution system of claim 1, wherein the data aggregation server further comprises a groups module, the groups module configured to create groupings of the plurality of users.

3. The data distribution system of claim 1, wherein the data aggregation server is integrated into a service provider network.

4. The data distribution system of claim 1, wherein the data aggregation server aggregates presence data from at least two different sources of personal information management (PIM) data.

5. The data distribution system of claim 4, wherein at least one of the two different sources of PIM data is a personal computer.

6. The data distribution system of claim 4, wherein at least one of the two different sources of PIM data is an enterprise server.

7. The data distribution system of claim 4, wherein at least one of the two different sources of PIM data is a mobile phone.

8. The data distribution system of claim 4, wherein at least one of the two different sources of PIM data is an instant messaging network.

9. The data distribution system of claim 4, wherein at least one of the two different sources of PIM data is an Internet service provider.

11. The data distribution system of claim 1, wherein the presence data is derived from calendar data.

12. The data distribution system of claim 1, wherein the presence data is derived from a manual setting by a user.

13. The data distribution system of claim 1, wherein the mobile device displays indicia associated with presence data of the plurality of users.

14. The data distribution system of claim 13, wherein the presence data is an emoticon.

15. The data distribution system of claim 13, wherein the indicia data is displayed in conjunction with contact status indicator information.

16. A method of grouping contact information:

aggregating personal information management (PIM) data from a plurality of users at a central computing device;

identifying a common PIM data element amongst the plurality of users;

creating a group of users, the group characterized by the common PIM data element.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein PIM data is acquired from at least one other source of PIM data based on a user being a member of a particular group of users.
