Abstract

A weight adjustment member may be mounted in a tuning port in a golf club head and secured therein using adhesive. The weight adjustment member includes a lip which prevents excess adhesive from escaping the tuning port and hides adhesive that might otherwise be visible between the weight adjustment member and the tuning port. Locating devices that mate with each other are included in the tuning port and on the weight adjustment member. A method of mounting the weight adjustment member in the tuning port of a golf club head is also provided.

Claims

1. A weight adjustment member for a golf club head wherein the golf club head includes a tuning port with a rim, said weight adjustment member comprising:

a base adapted to be received in said tuning port;

a cap connected to said base, said cap having a lip projecting outwardly for concealing at least a portion of said tuning port rim when said base is received in said tuning port;

a first locating device on a bottom surface of said base and a second locating device on a bottom wall of said tuning port; and

said first and second locating devices mating with each other when said base is received in said tuning port.

2. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, wherein said base includes a side surface, a first side and a second side, said side surface having a height dimension that is different on said first and second sides.

3. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, wherein said base includes a side surface, a first side and a second side, said side surface having a height dimension that is substantially equal on said first and second sides.

4. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, wherein said base includes a side surface having a plurality of recesses formed therein.

5. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, wherein said base includes a side surface with a plurality of tabs extending therefrom.

6. The weight adjustment member of claim 5, wherein said tabs are located below said lip.

7. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, wherein said first locating device comprises an indentation and said second locating device comprises a protrusion.

8. The weight adjustment member of claim 7, wherein said indentation and said protrusion are located off-center with respect to said base and said tuning port, respectively.

9. A weight adjustment member for a golf club head wherein the golf club head includes a tuning port, said weight adjustment member comprising a base adapted to be received in the tuning port, said base including a first locating device on a bottom surface thereof, and said tuning port including a second locating device on a bottom wall thereof for mating engagement with said first locating device.

10. The weight adjustment member of claim 9, wherein said first and second locating devices are located off-center with respect to said base and said tuning port, respectively.

11. An insert for a golf club head comprising:

a base adapted to be received in a cavity in the golf club head, said cavity including a rim;

a cap connected to said base, said cap having a lip projecting outwardly for concealing at least a portion of said cavity rim when said base is received in said cavity;

a first locating device on a bottom surface of said base and a second locating device on a bottom wall of said cavity; and

said first and second locating devices mating with each other when said base is received in said cavity.

12. A method of mounting a weight adjustment member in a tuning port of a golf club head comprising:

providing said weight adjustment member with a first locating device on a bottom surface thereof;

providing said tuning port with a second locating device on a bottom wall thereof for mating engagement with said first locating device;

applying adhesive to at least one of said weight adjustment member and said tuning port; and

mounting said weight adjustment member in said tuning port so that said first and second locating devices mate with each other.

13. A weight adjustment member for a golf club head comprising:

a base adapted to be received in a tuning port in the golf club head, said tuning port including a rim, a bottom wall and a locating device on said bottom wall;

said base having a side surface with a plurality of recesses formed therein extending peripherally around said base and a plurality of tabs extending therefrom;

said base also having a bottom surface with a locating device for mating engagement with said locating device in said tuning port; and

a cap connected to said base, said cap having a lip projecting outwardly for concealing at least a portion of said tuning port rim when said base is received in said tuning port.
