Abstract

An aspect of the present invention relates to systems and methods for indexing mobile content, wherein the indexing is based at least in part on compatibility between the content and a mobile communication facility.

Claims

1. A method of indexing mobile content comprising:

finding a webpage containing mobile content;

determining compatibility of the mobile content based on a type of mobile communication facility; and

indexing the mobile content based at least in part on the compatibility.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the finding is achieved by spidering.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the finding is achieved by WAP gateway data.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the finding is achieved by self-submission.

18. The method of claim 1, further comprising delivering the mobile content from the index to a mobile communication facility as the result of a search associated with the mobile communication facility.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the mobile communication facility is a phone.

23. The method of claim 1, wherein the compatibility is determined based at least in part on a mimetype.

27. The method of claim 1, wherein the compatibility is determined based at least in part on carrier business rule compliance.

28. The method of claim 1, wherein the compatibility is determined based at least in part on the inbound links of a webpage.

29. The method of claim 1, wherein the compatibility is determined based at least in part on a mobile communication facility identifier.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the mobile communication facility identifier is a user agent string.

40. The method of claim 29, wherein the mobile communication facility identifier is a browser identification string.

41. The method of claim 29, wherein the mobile communication facility identifier is a mobile subscriber characteristic.

42. The method of claim 1, wherein the compatibility is based at least in part on a database containing handset capabilities.

43. The method of claim 1, wherein the compatibility is determined based at least in part on a browser.

44. The method of claim 1, wherein the compatibility is determined based at least in part on an operating system.

45. The method of claim 1, wherein the compatibility contains an element of usability.

46. The method of claim 45, wherein the element of usability is a mobile content standard.

78. The method of claim 1, wherein the mobile content in the index is ordered based at least in part on the rank.

a finding facility adapted to find a webpage containing mobile content;
