Abstract

The system control section 50 displays the entire original image as a display image, or scrolls a display image with a part of the original image being the display image, depending on relationship between the aspect ratios of the original image and the display area.

Claims

1. An image display apparatus for displaying an image on a predetermined display area, comprising:

a first calculation unit adapted to calculate a first magnification for matching the size of said image in a horizontal direction with the size of said display area in a horizontal direction;

a second calculation unit adapted to calculate a second magnification for matching the size of said image in the vertical direction with the size of said display area in the vertical direction;

a first resizing unit adapted to obtain a first resized image by resizing said image using a magnification equal to or larger than the other magnification of said first magnification and said second magnification; and

a display control unit adapted to perform scrolling display on an area which cannot completely be contained in said display area in said first resized image.

2. The image display apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:

a detection unit adapted to detect whether said image display apparatus is in a horizontal state or in a vertical state,

wherein when said image display apparatus is in the vertical state, said first and second calculation unit deal with said size of said image in a vertical direction and said size of said image in a horizontal direction by swapping each other in comparison with the case where said image display apparatus would be in the horizontal state.

3. The image display apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:

a second resizing unit adapted to obtain a second resized image by resizing said image using a magnification equal to or smaller than the other magnification of said first magnification and said second magnification,

wherein said display control unit displays said second resized image without performing said scrolling display if said image display apparatus serially displays a plurality of said images automatically or in response to a user'"'"'s instruction.

4. The image display apparatus according to claim 3, further comprising:

an image pick up unit,

wherein said image is an image picked up by said image pick up unit, and

said display control unit displays said second resized image without performing said scrolling display if said image is REC review displayed in said display area.

The image display apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said display control unit performs said scrolling display when a display time for said REC review display is set more than a predetermined time, or when a specific effect is not added to a display even if said image display apparatus serially displays a plurality of said images in an automatic manner.

The image display apparatus according to claim 4, wherein when image pick up is performed while scrolling display is being performed on said first resized image by said display control unit, said display control unit stops said scrolling display and performs the scrolling display on said first resized image obtained from an image obtained by said image pick up performed by said image pick up unit.

The image display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein when said image display apparatus receives an image forwarding instruction from a user while scrolling display is being performed on said first resized image by said display control unit, said display control unit stops said scrolling display and displays the next image indicated by said image forwarding instruction.

The image display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein even if said first magnification is larger than said second magnification, when a value obtained by dividing the size of said first resized image in the vertical direction by the size of said display area in the vertical direction is smaller than a first predetermined value, said display control unit displays a resized image, which is obtained by resizing said image using said second magnification, in said display area without performing said scrolling display, and wherein even if said second magnification is larger than said first magnification, when a value obtained by dividing the size of said second resized image in the horizontal direction by the size of said display area in the horizontal direction is smaller than a second predetermined value, said display control unit displays a resized image, which is obtained by resizing said image using said first magnification, in said display area without performing said scrolling display.

9. The image display apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said display control unit displays said second resized image after said scrolling display is performed.

The image display apparatus according to claim 3, wherein when said image display apparatus receives an instruction for displaying a previous image from a user while said scrolling display is being performed or while said second resized image is being displayed, said display control unit displays a second resized image, which is obtained by resizing said previous image with said second resizing unit, on said display area without scrolling it.

11. The image display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said display control unit starts said scrolling display after receiving a scrolling display starting instruction from a user.

12. The image display apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said display control unit displays said second resized image without scrolling it until said display control unit receives an instruction from a user, and displays said first resized image when it receives said instruction.

13. The image display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said display control unit automatically performs said scrolling display.

14. The image display apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:

a thumbnail display unit adapted to cause a plurality of images to be displayed in thumbnails in said display area, wherein

said image is an image selected from said plurality of images by a user, and

said display control unit performs said thumbnail display by using said thumbnail display unit after performing said scrolling display on said first resized image.

15. The image display apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:

a print unit adapted to print an image by direct print as being connected with a print apparatus;

wherein display processing by said display control unit is executed when a user is allowed to select an image to be printed by said print unit from a plurality of images.

16. An image display method for displaying an image on a predetermined display area, comprising:

a first calculation step of calculating a first magnification for matching the size of said image in the horizontal direction with the size of said display area in the horizontal direction;

a second calculation step of calculating a second magnification for matching the size of said image in the vertical direction with the size of said display area in the vertical direction;

a first resizing step of obtaining a first resized image by resizing said image using a magnification equal to or larger than the other magnification of said first magnification and said second magnification; and

a display control step of performing scrolling display on an area which cannot completely be contained in said display area in said first resized image.

17. A computer program, stored in a computer-readable storage medium, for causing a computer to execute an image display method for displaying an image on a predetermined display area, said image display method comprising:

a first calculation step of calculating a first magnification for matching the size of said image in the horizontal direction with the size of said display area in the horizontal direction;

a second calculation step of calculating a second magnification for matching the size of said image in the vertical direction with the size of said display area in the vertical direction;

a first resizing step of obtaining a first resized image by resizing said image using a magnification equal to or larger than the other magnification of said first magnification and said second magnification; and

a display control step of performing scrolling display on an area which cannot completely be contained in said display area in said first resized image.

18. A computer-readable storage medium recording the computer program according to claim 17.

19. An image display apparatus for displaying an image, comprising:

a determination unit adapted to determine whether or not to perform scrolling display on said image based on an operation state of said image display apparatus; and

a display control unit adapted to control the scrolling display of said image depending on a result determined by said determination unit.

20. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said display control unit controls displaying said image with scrolling if it is determined by said determination unit that the scrolling display is performed.

21. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said display control unit controls said image to be displayed in its entirety if it is determined by said determination unit that the scrolling display is not performed.

22. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said scrolling display includes automatic scrolling display, which automatically executes the scrolling display, and manual scrolling display, where scrolling display is manually executed by an user operation.

23. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein,

said image display apparatus has an image pick up unit and said image is an image picked up by said image pick up unit, and

said determination unit determines that the scrolling display is not performed on said image, when said image display apparatus performs REC review display on said image.

24. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said determination unit determines that the scrolling display is not performed on said image in at least one of cases where a plurality of images are displayed at the same time, where a plurality of images are serially displayed automatically or in response to a user'"'"'s instruction, and where a display is presented which allows a user to select a specific image from a plurality of images.

25. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said determination unit determines that the scrolling display is not performed on said image, when a plurality of images are serially displayed automatically or in response to a user'"'"'s instruction and when a special effect is added to the display.

26. The image display apparatus according to claim 24, wherein said display which allows a user to select a specific image from a plurality of images includes at least one of display for selecting an image to be printed, display for selecting an image to be transferred, display for selecting an image to be deleted, display for selecting an image to be protected, and display for selecting images to be serially displayed automatically.

27. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said determination unit determines that the scrolling display is not performed on said image when a display time for one image is shorter than a predetermined time.

28. The image display apparatus according to claim 27, further comprising:

a setting unit adapted to set said predetermined time according to user'"'"'s instruction.

29. The image display apparatus according to claim 27, wherein said display time for one image includes at least one of

a display time for each of said plurality of images when said plurality of images are serially displayed automatically,

an average display time for one image of a specific number of display images when said plurality of images are serially displayed in response to user'"'"'s instruction, and

a display time for REC review displaying an image picked up by said image display apparatus having an image pick up unit.

30. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said display control unit stops said scrolling display, when an instruction is made to transit to another operation state while the scrolling display of said image is being performed by said display control unit.

31. The image display apparatus according to claim 30, wherein said instruction to transit to another operation state is at least one of an instruction to display an image other than said image displayed in the scrolling display, an instruction to display an screen other than an screen where said image is displayed in the scrolling display, an image pick up instruction, and an instruction to change a mode.

32. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein, when a previously displayed image is displayed while said image is being displayed, said determination unit determines that the scrolling display is not performed on said previous image.

The image display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein, when said display control unit performs the scrolling display on said image, after said scrolling display ends, said display control unit controls said image to be displayed in its entirety on an image display area of said image display apparatus.

34. The image display apparatus according to claim 19, further comprising:

a thumbnail display unit adapted to perform the thumbnail display of a plurality of images on an image display area of said image display apparatus, wherein said determination unit determines whether or not to perform the scrolling display on an image selected by a user from said plurality of images, and

said display control unit performs the scrolling display on said selected image which is determined to be displayed in the scrolling display by said determination unit, and performs said thumbnail display by using said thumbnail display unit after performing said scrolling display on said selected image.

35. An image display method for displaying an image on an image display apparatus, comprising:

a determination step of determining whether or not to perform scrolling display on said image based on an operation state of said image display apparatus; and

a display control step of controlling the scrolling display of said image depending on a result determined in said determination step.

36. A computer program, stored in a computer readable storage medium, for causing a computer to execute the image display method according to claim 35.

37. A computer readable storage medium storing the computer program according to claim 36.
