Abstract

An infusion pump having a plurality of function keys which initiate different processes depending on the state of the infusion pump is disclosed. In the configuration state, the function keys operate to set the various configurable options with regard to the desired medication treatment parameters. In the infusing state, the function keys operate to transmit various operational data to a readout screen depending on the function key pressed. Essentially, multi-function, state dependent function keys operable on an infusion pump is disclosed.

Claims

1. An infusion pump having a first state and a second state, for infusing fluid medication, comprising:

a data processor;

a readout screen electrically connected to said data processor; and

a plurality of function keys electrically connected to said data processor;

wherein at least one of said function keys is operable to activate a first data processing operation on said data processor while said infusion pump is in said first state, and is operable to activate a second data processing operation on said data processor while said infusion pump is in said second state.

2. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a memory module electrically connected with said data processor, wherein said memory module stores results from said first and second data processing operations.

3. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 1, further comprising

a platen;

a rotatable cam assembly spaced from said platen;

a set of spaced pump finger assemblies, each having a first end riding on said cam and a second end adjacent to said platen; and

a resilient tube interposed between said platen and said pump finger assemblies.

4. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a data input port electrically connected to said data processor and a bolus, for transmitting a bolus activation signal from said bolus to said data processor.

5. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first state is while said infusion pump is infusing said fluid medication.

6. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 1, wherein said second state is while said infusion pump is not infusing said fluid medication.

7. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first data processing operation is displaying operational data on said readout screen.

8. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first data processing operation is holding an output to said readout screen for a time period.

9. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 1, wherein said second data processing operation is configuring the operational parameters of said infusion pump and transmitting data to said readout screen.

10. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 6, wherein said operational data comprises the date and time.

11. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 6, wherein said operational data comprises electrical power source information.

12. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 6, wherein said operational data comprises currently set global options.

13. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 6, wherein said operational data comprises a log of infusion history.

14. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 6, wherein said operational data comprises currently set fluid medication infusion options.

15. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 4, wherein said operational data comprises a log of bolus activation history.

16. The infusion pump as set forth in claim 2, wherein said first data processing operation is clearing said results from said memory module.

17. A infusion pump comprising a plurality of function keys, at least one of said function keys upon activation transmits a signal to a central processor unit having an infusing state and a non-infusing state, wherein said signal activates a data transmission to a display while said central processor unit is an infusing state, and modifies one or more configuration settings recorded in said central processor unit and initiates a data transmission to said display when said central processor unit is in a non-infusing state.
