Abstract

A financial transactions control system may impose controls on the processing of financial transaction data that is generated by sending jobs and received and processed by receiving jobs. It may include a control data generating system associated with each of the receiving jobs configured to generate receiving control data that includes at least one total of financial transaction data received by the receiving job, a storage system configured to receive and store the receiving control data and sending control data from each sending job that contains at least one total of financial transaction data sent by the sending job, and an exception identification system configured to analyze the receiving and the sending control data and to communicate an exception when an error in the control data is detected. Sending job processing systems may each have associated control data generating systems of a similar type.

Claims

1. A financial transactions control system for imposing controls on the processing of financial transaction data that is generated by sending jobs and received and processed by receiving jobs, comprising:

a control data generating system associated with each of the receiving jobs configured to generate receiving control data that includes at least one total of financial transaction data received by the receiving job;

a storage system configured to receive and store the receiving control data and sending control data from each sending job that contains at least one total of financial transaction data sent by the sending job; and

an exception identification system configured to analyze the receiving and the sending control data and to communicate an exception when an error in the control data is detected.

2. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the exception identification system is configured to compare sending control data from a sending job that sent financial transaction data to a receiving job with receiving control data generated by a control data generating system associated with that receiving job.

3. The financial transactions control system of claim 2 wherein the comparing includes determining whether the at least one total in the sending control data equals the at least one total in the receiving control data.

The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the exception identification system is configured to compare sending control data from a plurality of sending jobs that sent financial transaction data to a receiving job with receiving control data generated by a control data generating system associated with that receiving job.

5. The financial transactions control system of claim 4 wherein the comparing includes determining whether the sum of the at least one totals in the sending control data equals the at least one total in the receiving control data.

6. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein at least one receiving job also performs a sending job and wherein the exception identification system is configured to compare the receiving control data received by such receiving job with the sending control data generated by such sending job.

The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the financial transaction data received and processed by a receiving job includes a plurality of records and wherein the control data generating system associated with that receiving job is configured to generate receiving control data that includes a total of the number of those records.

8. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the financial transaction data received and processed by a receiving job includes a dollar amount for each of a number of transactions and wherein the control data generating system associated with that receiving job is configured to generate receiving control data that includes a total of those dollar amounts.

9. The financial transactions control system of claim 8 wherein the financial transaction data received and processed by the receiving job includes a plurality of records and wherein the control data generating system associated with that receiving job is configured to generate receiving control data that also includes a total of the number of those records.

10. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the financial transaction data received and processed by a receiving job includes information about multiple types of transactions and wherein the control data generating system associated with that receiving job is configured to generate receiving control data that includes at least one total of the financial transaction data for each type of transaction.

11. The financial transactions control system of claim 10 wherein the receiving control data includes at least one total of the financial transaction data for all of the transactions.

12. The financial transactions control system of claim 10 wherein the financial transaction data received and processed by the receiving job includes a plurality of records and wherein the at least one total for each type of transaction includes the number of records in the financial transaction data of that type.

13. The financial transactions control system of claim 10 wherein the financial transaction data received and processed by the receiving job includes a dollar amount for each of the transactions and wherein the at least one total for each type of transaction includes the total dollar amount for transactions in the financial transaction data of that type.

14. The financial transactions control system of claim 13 wherein the financial transaction data received and processed by the receiving job also includes a plurality of records and wherein the at least one total for each type of transaction also includes the number of records in the financial transaction data of that type.

15. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the exception identification system is configured to compare the receiving and sending control data by applying business rules.

16. The financial transactions control system of claim 15 wherein the business rules include a schedule of the receiving jobs.

17. The financial transactions control system of claim 15 wherein the business rules include a schedule for the receipt of the financial transaction data.

18. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the exception identification system is configured to communicate the exception when a total in the sending or receiving control data is other than expected.

19. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the exception identification system is configured to communicate the exception when a total in the sending or receiving control data is missing.

20. The financial transactions control system of claim 19 wherein the exception identification system is configured to determine whether a total is missing based on a schedule.

21. The financial transactions control system of claim 20 wherein the schedule includes a schedule for the receiving jobs.

22. The financial transactions control system of claim 20 wherein the schedule includes a schedule for the receipt of the financial transaction data.

23. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 further comprising an email alert system configured to automatically issue an email alert of the exception.

24. The financial transactions control system of claim 23 wherein the email alert system is configured to track how each email is resolved.

25. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the control data generating system is configured to generate receiving control data that includes information identifying the receiving job with which it is associated.

26. The financial transactions control system of claim 1 wherein the financial transaction data is in different formats but wherein the control data generating systems are configured to generate the receiving control data all in substantially the same format.

27. A financial transaction control process for imposing controls on the processing of financial transaction data that is generated by sending jobs and received and processed by receiving jobs, comprising:

generating receiving control data that includes at least one total of financial transaction data received by each receiving job;

receiving and storing the receiving control data and sending control data from each sending job that contains at least one total of financial transaction data sent by the sending job; and

analyzing the receiving and the sending control data and communicating an exception when an error in the control data is detected.

28. A financial transactions control system for imposing controls on the processing of financial transaction data that is generated by sending jobs and received and processed by receiving jobs, comprising:

means associated with each of the receiving jobs for generating receiving control data that includes at least one total of financial transaction data received by the receiving job;

means for receiving and storing the receiving control data and sending control data from each sending job that contains at least one total of financial transaction data sent by the sending job; and

means for analyzing the receiving and the sending control data and for communicating an exception when an error in the control data is detected.

29. A financial transactions control system for facilitating control of the processing of financial transaction data that is generated by a sending job and received and processed by a receiving job, comprising:

a sending job processing system configured to generate the financial transaction data;

a delivery system configured to send the financial transaction data to the receiving job;

a control data generating system associated with the sending job processing system configured to generate sending control data that includes at least one total of the financial transaction data; and

a delivery system configured to deliver the control data to a control data storage system.

30. The financial transactions control system of claim 29 wherein the financial transaction data includes a plurality of records and wherein the sending control data includes a total of the number of those records.

31. The financial transactions control system of claim 29 wherein the financial transaction data includes a dollar amount for each of a number of transactions and wherein the sending control data includes a total of those dollar amounts.

32. The financial transactions control system of claim 31 wherein the financial transaction data includes a plurality of records and wherein the sending control data also includes a total of the number of those records.

33. The financial transactions control system of claim 29 wherein the financial transaction data includes information about multiple types of transactions and wherein the sending control data includes at least one total of the financial transaction data for each type of transaction.

34. The financial transactions control system of claim 33 wherein the sending control data also includes at least one total of the financial transaction data for all of the transactions.

35. The financial transactions control system of claim 33 wherein the financial transaction data includes a plurality of records and wherein the at least one total for each type of transaction includes the number of records in the financial transaction data of that type.

36. The financial transactions control system of claim 33 wherein the financial transaction data includes a dollar amount for each of the transactions and wherein the at least one total for each type of transaction includes the total dollar amount for transactions in the financial transaction data of that type.

37. The financial transactions control system of claim 36 wherein the financial transaction data also includes a plurality of records and wherein the at least one total for each type of transaction also includes the number of records in the financial transaction data of that type.

38. The financial transactions control system of claim 29 wherein the sending control data includes information identifying the sending job processing system.

39. A financial transaction control process for facilitating control of the processing of financial transaction data that is generated by a sending job and received and processed by a receiving job, comprising:

generating the financial transaction data;

sending the financial transaction data to the receiving job;

generating sending control data that includes at least one total of the financial transaction data; and

delivering the control data to a control data storage system.

40. A financial transactions control system for facilitating control of the processing of financial transaction data that is generated by a sending job and received and processed by a receiving job, comprising:

means for generating the financial transaction data;

means for sending the financial transaction data to the receiving job;

means for generating sending control data that includes at least one total of the financial transaction data; and

means for delivering the control data to a control data storage system.
