Abstract

A location tagged data provision and display system. A personal communication device (PCD) with electromagnetic communication capability has a GPS receiver and a display. The PCD requests maps and location tagged data from data providers and other for display on the PCD. The data providers respond to requests by using searching and sorting schemes to interrogate data bases and then automatically transmitting data responsive to the requests to the requesting PCD.

51. An information apparatus comprising:

a processing element configured to request data concerning traffic from a data provider, and to process responsive data to the request, the responsive data including geographic location data;

a device for requesting and receiving map information from digital map storage separate from the data provider; and

a display for showing thereon map information received from the digital map storage, a location of the apparatus, and traffic information resulting from processing the responsive data.

52. The apparatus of claim 51 further comprising a receiver for receiving signals from one or more satellites.

53. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the location of the apparatus is derived from GPS signals received by the apparatus.

54. The apparatus of claim 51 being electrically connectable to a port in a vehicle.

55. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the digital map storage comprises a computer memory storage device.

56. The apparatus of claim 55 wherein the computer memory storage device comprises a removable data storage device.

57. The apparatus of claim 56 wherein the removable data storage device comprises a memory disk.

58. An information apparatus comprising:

a receiver for receiving data concerning traffic from a data provider via satellite, the received data including geographic location data;

a processing element configured to process information concerning a location of the apparatus, and the received data;

a device for requesting and receiving map information from digital map storage separate from the data provider; and

a display for showing thereon map information received from the digital map storage, the location of the apparatus, and traffic information resulting from processing the received data.

59. The apparatus of claim 58 wherein the received data is received via satellite.

60. The apparatus of claim 58 wherein the information concerning the location of the apparatus is included in GPS signals received by the apparatus.

61. The apparatus of claim 58 being electrically connectable to a port in a vehicle.

62. The apparatus of claim 58 wherein the digital map storage comprises a computer memory storage device.

63. The apparatus of claim 62 wherein the computer memory storage device comprises a removable data storage device.

64. The apparatus of claim 63 wherein the removable data storage device comprises a memory disk.

65. An information apparatus comprising:

a processing element configured to request data concerning weather from a data provider, and to process responsive data to the request, the responsive data including geographic location data;

a device for requesting and receiving map information from digital map storage separate from the data provider; and

a display for showing thereon map information received from the digital map storage, a location of the apparatus, and weather information resulting from processing the responsive data.

66. The apparatus of claim 65 further comprising a weather detection sensor.

67. The apparatus of claim 66 wherein the weather detection sensor comprises a temperature sensor.

68. The apparatus of claim 66 wherein the weather detection sensor comprises a wind sensor.

69. The apparatus of claim 65 further comprising a receiver for receiving signals from one or more satellites.

70. The apparatus of claim 65 wherein the location of the apparatus is derived from GPS signals received by the apparatus.

71. The apparatus of claim 65 being electrically connectable to a port in a vehicle.

72. The apparatus of claim 65 wherein the digital map storage comprises a computer memory storage device.

73. The apparatus of claim 72 wherein the computer memory storage device comprises a removable data storage device.

74. The apparatus of claim 73 wherein the removable data storage device comprises a memory disk
