Abstract

A method and apparatus for downloading information content to a wireless terminal. The information content is obtained from a content provider that is accessible over a network, such as the World Wide Web. The information content, which is available on a subscription basis, is downloaded directly to the wireless terminal. Access to the network, access to the content provider, and downloading the information content is performed automatically according to a schedule, in accordance with the subscription.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

subscribing to an information service that is offered by a node on a telecommunications network;

pre-selecting content to be downloaded from said node;

accessing said node via a wireless terminal, wherein access is automatic; and

downloading the pre-selected content directly to said wireless terminal from said node.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein automatic access is limited to said node and no other node.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said automatic access comprises:

obtaining wireless internet access without user intervention; and

obtaining authorization to enter said node without user intervention.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said automatic access comprises accessing said node at a specific time interval.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said automatic access comprises accessing said node daily at a specified time.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein said automatic access comprises accessing said node once per day.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the operation of subscribing comprises selecting a single network through which to access said node, wherein a first pricing plan is associated with single-network access.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the operation of subscribing comprises selecting a plurality of networks through which to access said node, wherein a second pricing plan is associated with plural-networks access, wherein said second pricing plan is more expensive than said first pricing plan.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the operation of subscribing comprises selecting a number of times per day to download said pre-selected content.

11. The wireless terminal of claim 9, and further wherein said processor accesses said node at a specific time interval.

12. The wireless terminal of claim 9, and further wherein said processor accesses said node daily at a specified time.

13. The wireless terminal of claim 9, and further wherein said processor accesses said node once per day.

10. A wireless terminal comprising:

a radio;

authorization codes for;

(i) obtaining wireless internet access;

(ii) accessing a node of a network, wherein said node provides information content that is available on a subscription basis; and

(iii) downloading at least a subset of said information content from said node during said access of said node; and

a processor for automatically obtaining said wireless internet access, automatically accessing said node, and automatically downloading said subset of said information content.
