Abstract

A system of provisioning a mobile wireless communications device to display account or device specific characteristics includes a database for storing a plurality of display characteristics for different wireless carriers, electronic mail (email) service providers, device types, and source mailbox mail domains. A configuration module accesses the database and uploads the display characteristics of at least one of the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain to the mobile wireless communications device upon provisioning of the mobile wireless communications device to access email from a remote location.

Claims

1. A system of provisioning a mobile wireless communications device to display account or device specific characteristics comprising:

a database for storing a plurality of display characteristics for different wireless carriers, electronic mail (email) service providers, device types and source mailbox mail domains; and

a configuration module for accessing the database and uploading the display characteristics of at least one of the wireless carriers, email service providers, device types, and source mailbox mail domains to the mobile wireless communications device upon provisioning of the mobile wireless communications device to access email from a remote location.

2. A system according to claim 1, wherein the configuration module is operative for changing a color displayed on the mobile wireless communications device based on the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain.

A system according to claim 1, wherein the configuration module is operative for changing a font size, font typeface, graphics, text, icons or resolution displayed on the mobile wireless communications device based on the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain.

4. A system according to claim 3, wherein said icons comprise three-dimensional, flat or photo-realistic icons.

5. A system according to claim 4, wherein said icons are theme-based.

6. A system according to claim 1, wherein each wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain have different display characteristics.

7. A method of provisioning a mobile wireless communications device to display account or device specific characteristics comprising:

storing within a database a plurality of display characteristics for a specific wireless carrier, electronic mail (email) service provider, device type, and source mailbox mail domain; and

uploading the display characteristics of at least one of the wireless carriers, email service providers, device types, or source mailbox mail domain to the mobile wireless communications device upon provisioning of the mobile wireless communications device to access email from a remote location.

8. A method according to claim 7, which further comprises uploading icons or images to be displayed on the wireless communications device corresponding to the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain.

9. A method according to claim 7, which further comprises changing a color displayed on the mobile wireless communications device based on the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain.

10. A method according to claim 7, which further comprises changing a font size, font typeface, graphics, text, icons, or resolution displayed on the mobile wireless communications device based on the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain.

11. A method according to claim 10, wherein said icons comprise three-dimensional, flat or photo-realistic icons.

12. A method according to claim 11, wherein said icons are theme-based.

13. A method according to claim 7, wherein each wireless carrier, email service provider device type, or source mailbox mail domain have different display characteristics.

14. A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing functions comprising:

storing within a database a plurality of display characteristics for different wireless carriers, electronic mail (email) service providers, device types, and source mailbox mail domains; and

uploading the display characteristics of at least one of the specific wireless carriers, email service providers, device types, or source mailbox mail domains to the mobile wireless communications device upon provisioning of the mobile wireless communications device to access email.

A computer-readable medium according to claim 14, wherein the said computer-executable instructions are operative for uploading icons or images to be displayed on the wireless communications device corresponding to the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain.

16. A computer-readable medium according to claim 14, wherein the said computer-executable instructions are operative for changing a color displayed on the mobile wireless communications device based on the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain.

A computer-readable medium according to claim 16, wherein the said computer-executable instructions are operative for changing a font size, font typeface, text, graphics, icons or resolution displayed on the mobile wireless communications device based on the wireless carrier, email service provider, device type, or source mailbox mail domain.

18. A computer-readable medium according to claim 17, wherein said icons comprise three-dimensional, flat or photo-realistic icons.

19. A computer-readable medium according to claim 18, wherein said icons are theme-based.
