Abstract

A system and method for revenue and expense realignment is provided. A revenue and expense realignment application (RECAST) comprising of a rules engine executing on a computer receives revenue and/or expense transactions. At predetermined time intervals, the RECAST executes a series of steps, each of which has one or more user defined rules associated therewith to transform inbound transactions. The transformed transactions are then posted to other applications including, for example, a general ledger.

Claims

1. A method for revenue and expense realignment, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving a set of inbound transactions;

converting the set of inbound transactions into a uniform transaction format;

performing a set of rules based operations on the converted set of inbound transactions to generate a set of outbound transactions in the uniform transaction format;

converting the set of outbound transactions from the uniform transaction format into one or more outbound transaction formats; and

posting the converted outbound transactions to one or more services.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the set of inbound transactions comprise revenue transactions.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the set of inbound transactions comprise expense transactions.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of converting the set of inbound transactions into a uniform transaction format comprises the step of completing one or more fields of the uniform transaction format using a set of reference data.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of converting the set of inbound transactions into a uniform transaction format is performed using a set of user defined mappings.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the one or more services comprises a general ledger.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of using the converted outbound transactions for profitability reporting.

8. A system for revenue and expense realignment, the system comprising:

a computer operatively interconnected with one or more transaction servers, and

a revenue and expense tracking system (RECAST) executing on the computer, the RECAST including a rules engine adapted to perform a set of rules based operations.

9. The system of claim 8 wherein the RECAST further comprises an inbound interface module adapted to convert a set of inbound transactions into a uniform transaction format.

10. The system of claim 8 wherein the RECAST further comprises an outbound interface module adapted to convert a set of outbound transactions from a uniform transaction format into one or more outbound transaction formats.

11. The system of claim 8 wherein the RECAST further comprises a user interface module adapted to provide a user interface to a client.

12. The system of claim 11 wherein the user interface is a graphical user interface and wherein the client accesses the graphical user interface using a web browser.

13. The system of claim 8 wherein the RECAST further comprises a statement builder that enables a user to construct the set of rules.

14. A method for revenue and expense realignment, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving a set of inbound transactions;

performing a set of rules based operations on the set of inbound transactions to generate a set of outbound transaction; and

posting the converted outbound transactions to one or more services.

15. The method of claim 14 further comprising the step of converting the set of inbound transactions into a uniform transaction format.

16. The method of claim 14 further comprising the step of converting the set of outbound transactions from a uniform transaction format into one or more outbound transaction formats.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein the set of rules based operations comprises a set of ordered steps, and wherein each step is associated with one or more rules.

18. A system for revenue and expense realignment, the system comprising:

means for receiving a set of inbound transactions;

means for converting the set of inbound transactions into a uniform transaction format;

means for performing a set of rules based operations on the converted set of inbound transactions to generate a set of outbound transactions in the uniform transaction format;

means for converting the set of outbound transactions from the uniform transaction format into one or more outbound transaction formats; and

means for posting the converted outbound transactions to one or more services.

19. The system of claim 18 wherein the set of inbound transactions comprise revenue transactions.

20. The system of claim 18 wherein the set of inbound transactions comprise expense transactions.

21. The system of claim 18 wherein the means for converting the set of inbound transactions into a uniform transaction format comprises means for completing one or more fields of the uniform transaction format using a set of reference data.

22. The system of claim 18 wherein the means for converting the set of inbound transactions into a uniform transaction format is performed using a set of user defined mappings.

23. A computer readable medium for revenue and expense realignment, the computer readable medium including program instructions for performing the steps of:

receiving a set of inbound transactions;

converting the set of inbound transactions into a uniform transaction format;

performing a set of rules based operations on the converted set of inbound transactions to generate a set of outbound transactions in the uniform transaction format;

converting the set of outbound transactions from the uniform transaction format into one or more outbound transaction formats; and

posting the converted outbound transactions to one or more services.
