Abstract

A battery charger with a self-contained power source which provides a current charging signal at or near the resonant frequency of the battery to be charged when no other power supply is readily available. A storage energy device, for example a battery, delivers a current charging signal modulated at or near the resonant frequency of a load, or stores energy from a source.

Claims

1. An apparatus for charging a battery, comprising:

a mobile energy device adapted to store energy and deliver the energy to a load as a function of a modulated current charging signal without using a readily-available power source;

charge electronics adapted to generate the modulated current charging signal at or near a resonant frequency of the load as a function of a charging parameter, the modulated charging signal being delivered to the load.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein a memory is adapted to store the charging parameters.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the charging parameters is an algorithm.

4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the memory stores algorithms adapted to generate a plurality of waveforms.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the memory stores charging current values.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the memory stores charging voltage values.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the mobile energy device is a rechargeable battery.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the mobile energy device is a non-corded energy source.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the mobile energy device is a fuel cell.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the mobile energy device is an ultra-capacitor.

11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the mobile energy device is a butane energy generator.

12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the charge electronics contain a PWM.

13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the load is a rechargeable battery of a device.

14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the load is a Light Emitting Diode.

15. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the load is a power converter.

20. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the energy device is an ultra-capacitor.

16. An apparatus for charging a battery, comprising:

a mobile energy device adapted to store energy and deliver the energy to a load as a function of a modulated current charging signal without using a readily-available power source; and

charge electronics means for generating the modulated current charging signal at or near a resonant frequency of the load as a function of a charging parameter, the modulated current charging signal being delivered to the load.

17. An apparatus for charging a battery, comprising:

a mobile energy device adapted to store energy and deliver the energy to a load as a function of a modulated current charging signal without using a readily-available power source; and

charge electronics adapted to generate the modulated current charging signal at or near a harmonic of a resonant frequency of the load as a function of a charging parameter, the modulated current charging signal being delivered to the load.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein a memory is adapted to store the charging parameters.

19. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the load is a rechargeable battery of a device.

21. A method for charging a rechargeable battery, comprising:

measuring a resonant frequency of a plurality of batteries;

grouping some of the plurality of batteries with similar measured resonant frequencies into a resonant group;

averaging the resonant frequencies of the resonant group to obtain a group resonant frequency; and

charging one of the plurality of batteries in the resonant group with a signal modulated at the respective group resonant frequency.
