Abstract

A method for writing a character message in a mobile telecommunication handset, including writing a message, inputting a page divider transferring a current page to a next page at any area of the current page on which the message is being written, displaying page information on the message, transmitting the written message, determining if the page divider is inputted, enabling the current page on which to write the short message to be changed if the page divider is input; and displaying the updated page information on the short message if the current page is changed. Thus, it is possible to change a current page at any area of the current page during the writing of a short message, and continue to write the short message on a new page of a message-writing window during the writing of the short message.

Claims

1. A method for writing a character message in a mobile telecommunication handset, the method comprising:

writing a message;

inputting a page divider for transferring a current page to a next page at any area of the current page on which the message is being written;

displaying page information on the message; and

transmitting the written message.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the message comprises at least one of a short message, a multimedia message, and an email message.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the page information on the message comprises at least one of the number of total pages of the message, the number of the current page and a percentage of input characters.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the percentage of input characters comprises a percentage of characters input into a specific transfer protocol data unit (TPDU) compared with the maximum number of characters permitted in the specific TPDU.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the percentage of input characters comprises a percentage of input characters compared with the maximum number of characters permitted in a data packet having at least one or more TPDUs.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the page divider is input by pressing a specific key button of the mobile telecommunication handset.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the page divider is input into a data packet.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the page divider is input into a header area of a specific TPDU or a user data area of the specific TPDU in packets having at least one or more TPDUs.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein one page divider is input into the specific TPDU.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein at least one or more TPDU are input into the specific TPDU.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the page divider comprises information on an area in which a new page appears among the user data area of the specific TPDU, when the page divider is input into the header areas of the specific TPDU.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the information on the area on which the new page appears is expressed as a byte address indicating a specific position in the user data area.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining if the page divider is input;

enabling the current page on which to write the short message to be changed if the page divider is input; and

displaying the updated page information on the short message if the current page is changed.

14. A method for receiving a character message in a mobile telecommunication handset the method, comprising:

enabling the mobile telecommunication handset to receive a message;

detecting if the received message contains a page divider; and

displaying the received message which is paginated based on the page divider.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the message comprises at least one of a short message, a multimedia message, and an email message.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein displaying the received message further comprises displaying page information on the received message.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the page divider is input into at least one of a header area of a specific transfer protocol data unit (TPDU) and a user data area of the specific TPDU in packets having at least one or more TPDUs.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein one page divider is input into the specific TPDU.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein at least one or more page dividers are input into the specific TPDU.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein the page divider comprises information on an area on which a new page appears among the user data area of the specific TPDU, when the page divider is input into the header area of the specific TPDU.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the information on the area on which the new page appears is expressed as a byte address indicating a specific position in the user data area.

22. A mobile telecommunication handset, comprising:

a keypad including a key button adapted to input a page divider;

a display providing a message-writing window on which to write a message;

a computation unit for generating page information to be displayed; and

a control unit enabling a current page to be transferred to a next page on the message-writing window through the use of the page divider input from the key button of the keypad and enabling the page information generated by the computation unit to be displayed to an area of the message-writing window.

23. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 22, wherein the control unit determines if the received message includes the page divider, when the mobile telecommunication handset receives a message.

24. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 23, wherein the control unit enables a new page to appear on the message-writing window when it is determined that a page divider is included in the received message.

25. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 22, wherein the page information on the message comprises at least one of the number of total pages of the message, the number of the current page, and a percentage of input characters.

26. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 22, wherein the computation unit computes the number of characters input into a current page and computes a percentage of characters input into the current page compared with the maximum number of characters permitted in the current page.

27. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 25, wherein the percentage of input characters comprises a percentage of characters input into a specific transfer protocol data unit (TPDU) compared with the maximum number of characters permitted in the specific TPDU.

28. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 25, wherein the percentage of input characters comprises a percentage of input characters compared with the maximum number of characters permitted in a data packet having at least one or more TPDUs.

29. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 22, wherein the page divider is input into a data packet.

30. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 22, wherein the page divider is input into a header area of a specific TPDU or a user data area of the specific TPDU in packets having at least one or more TPDUs.

31. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 30, wherein at least one or more TPDU are input into the specific TPDU.

32. The mobile telecommunication handset of claim 30, wherein the page divider comprises information on an area in which a new page appears among the user data area of the specific TPDU, when the page divider is input into the header areas of the specific TPDU.
