Abstract

A lancet driver is provided wherein the driver exerts a driving force on a lancet during a lancing cycle and is used on a tissue site. The driver comprises of a drive force generator for advancing the lancet and a processor coupled to the drive force generator capable of changing the direction and magnitude of force exerted on the lancet during the lancing cycle. The driver further includes a human interface on the housing providing at least one output for communicating with the patient.

Claims

1. A method for producing a combined puncturing and measuring device for detection of an analyte in liquid, including a support with first and second sides, and an analyte sensor, comprising:

forming recesses which define puncturing points on one side of the support;

applying an analyte sensor to the support; and

separating individual puncturing/measuring disposable bodies either singly or in groups from the support at separating lines.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

creating depressions in the support material to form a channel suitable for capillary liquid transport.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the depressions are formed transversely relative to an advancement direction of the support.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein both of a side of the individual puncturing/measuring disposable bodies are separated in sections from the support along virtual separating lines.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the virtual separating lines are selected in accordance with a pre-determinable, selectable division.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the depressions have a rounding at a bottom of the depression.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the depressions have a depression base with a triangular contour.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein recesses on the first side are punched out or cut out from the material with first and second edges being formed.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein recesses on the first side of the support are symmetrical with respect to the separating lines.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein puncturing points formed on the first side are provided with a cover.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the support is a disk.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the support is a drum.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the support is a bandolier.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the support is a magazine.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein individual puncturing/measuring disposable bodies are separated singly or in groups from the support transversely with respect to an advancement direction of the support along the separating lines.

16. The method of claim 2, wherein depression bases include a hydrophilic coating.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein the analyte sensor is positioned near a puncturing point.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the puncturing points are sealed.

19. The method of claim 1, wherein the combined puncturing and measuring device includes tissue penetrating members with tips configured to penetrate tissue.

20. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

disposing a tissue penetrating member in proximity to a tissue of a patient.

21. The method of claim 20, further comprising:

driving the tissue penetrating member towards the tissue of the patient.

22. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

making contact between the tip and the tissue of the patient.

23. The method of claim 22, further comprising:

advancing the tip into the tissue during a penetration stroke to a position of maximum inward displacement.

24. The method of claim 23, further comprising:

displacing the tissue penetrating member proximally over a withdrawal stroke at an average velocity that is lower than an average velocity of the tissue penetrating member during the penetration stroke.

25. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

withdrawing the tissue penetrating member during a withdrawal stroke at a maximum velocity of up to about 0.02 meters per second.

26. The method of claim 25, further comprising:

using a penetrating member position sensor.
