Abstract

An ultra-wideband (UWB) receiver utilizing an Xⁿ(n>1) device as a signal detector for short pulse(s), impulse(s) or ultra-wideband signal(s). The transmitted signal comes to antenna and passes through a band pass filter (BPF). The signal is fed into an Xⁿ device. The output signal from the Xⁿ device is fed into integration/dump block. The output from the integration/dump block is fed into decision block.

Claims

1. An ultra wideband receiver comprising:

an antenna;

a band pass filter to receive an output from the antenna;

a Xⁿ or e^X block coupled to the band pass filter;

an integration and dump block coupled to the Xⁿ or e^X block; and

a decision block coupled to the integration and dump block.

2. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 1, further comprising:

a transmit/receive (T/R) switch between the antenna and the band pass filter.

3. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 1, further comprising:

an amplifier between the band pass filter and the Xⁿ or e^X block.

4. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 1, further comprising:

a T/R switch between the band pass filter and the Xⁿ or e^X block.

5. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 1, further comprising:

a T/R switch between the band pass filter and the amplifier; and

an amplifier between the T/R switch and the Xⁿ or e^X block.

6. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 1, wherein the band pass filter has a magnitude response close to a power spectrum density of an incoming signal.

7. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 1, wherein the integration and dump block has an integration time less than a time period assigned to each data symbol.

8. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 1, wherein the Xⁿ block comprises a multiplier that multiplies an input signal.

9. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 1, wherein the Xⁿ block includes one or more multipliers.

10. An ultra wideband receiver comprising:

an antenna;

a band pass filter to receive an output from the antenna;

a rectifier or envelope detector to receive an output from the band pass filter;

a Xⁿ(n>

1) or ex block to receive an output from the rectifier or envelope detector;

an integration and dump block to receive an output from the Xⁿ or e^X block; and

a decision block to receive an output from the integration and dump block.

11. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 10, further comprising:

a T/R switch between the antenna and the band pass filter.

12. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 10, further comprising:

an amplifier between the band pass filter and the rectifier or envelope detector.

13. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 10, further comprising:

a T/R switch between the band pass filter and the rectifier or envelope detector.

14. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 10, further comprising:

a T/R switch between the band pass filter and the amplifier; and

wherein the amplifier is between the T/R switch and the rectifier or envelope detector.

15. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 10, wherein the band pass filter has a magnitude response close to the power spectrum density of incoming signal.

16. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 10, wherein the integration and dump block has an integration time less than a time period assigned to each data symbol.

17. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 10, wherein the Xⁿ block comprises a multiplier that multiplies an input signal;

18. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 10, wherein the Xⁿ block comprises one or more multipliers.

19. An ultra wideband receiver comprising:

an antenna;

a band pass filter to receive an output from the antenna;

a Xⁿ(n>

1) or ex block to receive an output from the band pass filter; and

a comparator to receive an output from the Xⁿ or e^X block.

20. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 19, further comprising:

a T/R switch between the antenna and the band pass filter.

21. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 19, further comprising:

an amplifier between the band pass filter and the Xⁿ or e^X block.

22. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 19, further comprising:

a T/R switch between the band pass filter and the Xⁿ or e^X block.

23. The ultra wideband receiver of claim 19, further comprising:

a T/R switch between the band pass filter and an amplifier; and

wherein the amplifier is between T/R switch and Xⁿ or e^X block.

24. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 19, wherein:

the band pass filter has magnitude response close to the power spectrum density of incoming signal.

25. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 19, wherein the Xⁿ block comprises a multiplier that multiplies an input signal.

26. The ultra wideband receiver according to claim 19, wherein the Xⁿ block comprises one or more multipliers.
