Abstract

An assembly for loading a collapsible embolic protection filter 1 into a catheter 2, comprises a catheter 2 defining a reception space at a distal end of the catheter 2 for receiving a collapsed embolic protection filter 1; and a separate removable pushing device 8 for delivering the embolic protection filter 1 into the reception space. The pushing device 8 comprises an elongate stem 71 with a proximal stop 72 for engagement with the filter 1. A separate loading device 7 to collapse the embolic protection filter 1 is also provided. The loading device 7 defines an inlet end and an outlet end, the outlet end being configured for co-operative alignment with the reception space.

Claims

1. An assembly for loading an embolic filter into a catheter, the assembly comprising:

a catheter defining a reception space for receiving an embolic protection filter; and

an urging device for delivering the filter into the reception space;

the urging device being removable from the filter, while the filter remains in the reception space.

2. An assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the urging device comprises a stem for insertion through at least part of an embolic protection filter.

3. An assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the urging device comprises an engagement formation for engaging an embolic protection filter.

4. An assembly as claimed in claim 3, wherein the stem extends proximally of the engagement formation.

5. An assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the assembly comprises an embolic protection filter.

6. An assembly as claimed in claim 5, wherein the filter comprises a lumen extending at least partially therethrough.

7. An assembly as claimed in claim 6, wherein the stem is insertable through the lumen.

8. An assembly as claimed in claim 7, wherein along the full length of the stem, the radial dimension of the stem is less than the radial dimension of the lumen.

9. An assembly as claimed in claim 6, wherein the radial dimension of the engagement formation is greater than the radial dimension of the lumen.

10. A method of loading an embolic protection filter into a catheter, the method comprising the steps of:

providing an embolic protection filter;

providing a catheter defining a reception space;

providing an urging device;

delivering the filter into the reception space using the urging device; and

removing the urging device from the filter, while the filter remains in the reception space.

11. A method as claimed in claim 10, wherein the filter is delivered into the reception space by engaging the urging device with the filter.

12. A method as claimed in claim 11, wherein part of the urging device is inserted through the filter before engaging the urging device with the filter.
