Abstract

A method, device and computer program product that monitor situations. The method includes: processing information indicative of an occurrence of events to detect, in response to a current rule set, an occurrence of at least one situation that belongs to a situation set; wherein at least one rule sub-set out of the rule set defines at least one relationship between events that should occur within a lifespan; receiving a request to update a first rule; updating the first rule to provide a first updated rule while continuing to detect an occurrence of situations not affected by the update of the first rule.

Claims

1. A method for situation monitoring, the method comprising:

processing information indicative of an occurrence of events to detect an occurrence of at least one situation that belongs to a situation set;

wherein the detections is responsive to a current rule set;

wherein at least one rule sub-set out of the rule set defines at least one relationship between events that should occur within a lifespan;

receiving a request to update a first rule; and

updating the first rule to provide a first updated rule while continuing to detect an occurrence of situations not affected by the update of the first rule.

2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the receiving is followed by validating the request and rejecting a non-valid request.

3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the updating is followed by restarting a detection of each situation that is defined by a situation definition that comprises the first updated rule.

4. The method according to claim 1 wherein the updating is followed by restarting a detection of a situation out of the situation set if a detection of an occurrence of that situation is affected by the update of the first rule.

5. The method according to claim 1 wherein the updating is followed by determining if previously detected events correspond to the first updated rule, and selectively re-starting the detection of at least one situation in response to the determination.

6. The method according to claim 1 wherein the updating is followed by detecting an occurrence of at least one situation according to the updated first rule and concurrently detecting an occurrence of at least one situation according to the first rule.

7. A computer program product comprising a computer useable medium including a computer readable program, wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer causes the computer to:

process information indicative of an occurrence of events to detect an occurrence of at least one situation that belongs to a situation set;

receive a request to update a situation characteristic of at least a first situation that belongs to the situation set;

wherein the definition of the first situation comprises at least one relationship between multiple events that should occur within a certain lifespan; and

update a current definition of the first situation to provide an updated situation definition while continuing to process information indicative of an occurrence of events to detect an occurrence of a second situation that belongs to the situation set.

8. The computer program product according to claim 7 wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer further cause the computer to validate the request and rejecting a non-valid request.

9. The computer program product according to claim 7 wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer further cause the computer restart a detection of each situation that is defined by a situation definition that comprises an updated situation characteristic.

10. The computer program product according to claim 7 wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer further cause the computer restart a detection of a situation out of the situation set if a detection of an occurrence of that situation is affected by the update.

The computer program product according to claim 7 wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer further cause the computer to determine if previously detected events correspond to an updated definition of the first situation, and selectively re-start the detection of the first situation in response to the determination.

The computer program product according to claim 7 wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer further cause the computer to detect an occurrence of the first situation according to an updated definition of the first situation and concurrently detect an occurrence of the first situation according to a definition of the first situation before an update.

13. A situation monitoring system, the system comprising:

at least one input adapted to receive information indicative of an occurrence of events and to receive a request to update a situation characteristic of at least a first situation that belongs to the situation set;

wherein the definition of the first situation comprises at least one relationship between multiple events that should occur within a certain lifespan; and

a processor, adapted to process the received information to detect an occurrence of at least one situation that belongs to a situation set;

to update a current definition of the first situation to provide an updated situation definition while continuing to process information indicative of an occurrence of events to detect an occurrence of a second situation that belongs to the situation set.

14. The system according to claim 13 wherein the processor is adapted to validate the request and reject a non-valid request.

15. The system according to claim 13 wherein the processor is adapted to restart a detection of each situation that is defined by a situation definition that comprises an updated situation characteristic.

16. The system according to claim 13 wherein the processor is adapted to restart a detection of a situation out of the situation set if a detection of an occurrence of that situation is affected by the update.

17. The system according to claim 13 wherein the processor is adapted to determine if previously detected events correspond to an updated definition of the first situation, and selectively re-start the detection of the first situation in response to the determination.

18. The system according to claim 13 wherein the processor is adapted to detect an occurrence of the first situation according to an updated definition of the first situation and concurrently detect an occurrence of the first situation according to a definition of the first situation before an update.
