Abstract

Situational location dependent information is transmitted from a server data processing system to a receiving data processing system. The server data processing system communicates with the receiving data processing system in a manner by pushing content when appropriate. A candidate delivery event associated with a current positional attribute of the receiving data processing system is recognized and a situational location of the remote data processing system is determined. The candidate delivery event may be a location and/or direction change, device state change, or movement exceeding a movement tolerance. The situational location of the remote data processing system may be its location, direction, location and direction, proximity to a location, state change, or location and/or direction relative to a previous location and/or direction, or combinations thereof. A set of delivery content from a deliverable content database is transmitted from the server data processing system to the receiving data processing system according to the situational location of the receiving data processing system, and according to delivery constraints. The delivery content is configurable by authorized administrators on an instant activation basis for proactive delivery.

Claims

1. An internet connected service, said service comprising:

means for a plurality of content configuring users to configure, over an internet connection to said service, content for presentation to a mobile data processing system of a mobile user wherein said content is associated to at least one configured situational location;

means for determining a mobile situational location of said mobile user;

means for automatically finding said content by comparing said mobile situational location with said configured situational location; and

means for sending said content to said mobile data processing system.

2. The internet connected service of claim 1 further including means for causing presentation of said content at said mobile data processing system.

3. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein at least one configuring user, of said plurality of content configuring users, uses a different type of data processing system for configuring said content than said mobile user uses to receive said content.

4. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said plurality of content configuring users use different types of data processing systems for configuring said content.

5. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein a plurality of mobile users use different types of data processing systems for participating with said service.

6. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said means for determining a mobile situational location includes means for using global positioning system data to determine said mobile situational location of said mobile user.

7. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said means for determining a mobile situational location includes means for triangulating with radio wave signals said mobile situational location of said mobile user.

8. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said means for determining a mobile situational location includes means for using a network cell identifier to determine said mobile situational location of said mobile user.

9. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said means for determining a mobile situational location includes means for using a telephone number to determine said mobile situational location of said mobile user.

10. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said means for determining a mobile situational location includes means for using a network address to determine said mobile situational location of said mobile user.

11. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said means for determining a mobile situational location includes means for using proximity to a location to determine said mobile situational location of said mobile user.

12. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein at least one content configuring user, of said plurality of content configuring users, is another mobile user.

13. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said content is stored to a local cache of said mobile data processing system for later presentation.

14. The internet connected service of claim 1 further including means for maintaining a history of content sent.

15. The internet connected service of claim 14 further including means for using said history to prevent redundantly sending said content.

16. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said means for sending said content to said mobile data processing system includes means for sending said content according to capabilities of said mobile data processing system.

17. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said means for sending said content to said mobile data processing system includes means for sending said content according to interests of said mobile user.

18. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said means for sending said content to said mobile data processing system includes means for sending an indicator for said content to said mobile data processing system.

19. The internet connected service of claim 1 wherein said content includes an invocable speed reference.

20. A method in an internet connected service, said method comprising the steps of:

serving a plurality of users for configuring deliverable content with associated configured situational locations;

serving a plurality of mobile data processing systems for periodically comparing automatically determined situational locations of said mobile data processing systems with said configured situational locations;

determining matches of said automatically determined situational locations with said configured situational locations; and

causing presentation, at said mobile data processing systems, of information for said deliverable content which is determined to have said configured situational locations matching said automatically determined situational locations of said mobile data processing systems.

21. The method of claim 20 further including the step of sending said information to said mobile data processing systems.

22. The method of claim 20 wherein at least one user, of said plurality of users, uses a different type of data processing system for configuring said deliverable content than a type of data processing system of at least one of said mobile data processing systems.

23. The method of claim 20 wherein said plurality of users use different types of data processing systems for configuring said deliverable content.

24. The method of claim 20 wherein said plurality of mobile data processing systems are of different types of data processing systems.

25. The method of claim 20 wherein said automatically determined situational locations are automatically determined using global positioning system data.

26. The method of claim 20 wherein said automatically determined situational locations are automatically determined using triangulation with radio wave signals.

27. The method of claim 20 wherein said automatically determined situational locations are automatically determined using a network cell identifier.

28. The method of claim 20 wherein said automatically determined situational locations are automatically determined using a telephone number.

29. The method of claim 20 wherein said automatically determined situational locations are automatically determined using a network address.

30. The method of claim 20 wherein said automatically determined situational locations are automatically determined using proximity to a location.

31. The method of claim 20 wherein at least one user, of said plurality of users, is a mobile user.

32. The method of claim 20 wherein said information is stored to a local cache of said mobile data processing systems.

33. The method of claim 20 further including the step of maintaining a history of said information presented.

34. The method of claim 33 further including the step of using said history to prevent redundantly presenting said information.

35. The method of claim 20 wherein said step of causing presentation, at said mobile data processing systems, of information includes causing presentation, at said mobile data processing systems, of information according to capabilities of said mobile data processing systems.

36. The method of claim 20 wherein the step of causing presentation, at said mobile data processing systems, of information includes causing presentation, at said mobile data processing systems, of information according to user interests configured for said mobile data processing systems.

37. The method of claim 20 wherein said step of causing presentation, at said mobile data processing systems, of information includes causing presentation, at said mobile data processing systems, of an indicator for said information.

38. The method of claim 20 wherein said information includes an invocable speed reference.
