Abstract

Content identifiers are associated with respective metadata. Through use of the metadata, a user'"'"'s experience with the content can be enhanced. A variety of other arrangements are also detailed.

Claims

1. A method for operating a system that associates content identifiers with associated metadata, comprising:

storing first metadata associated with a first content identifier, and storing second metadata associated with a second content identifier;

responsive to submission of a content identifier from a user device, taking an action employing metadata associated with the submitted content identifier; and

irrespective of submission of a content identifier from a user device, taking an action employing stored metadata.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein at least some of said metadata comprises URL links, and wherein the method includes, irrespective of submission of a content identifier from a user device, checking that a URL links to a functioning resource.

3. A method comprising:

in a first transaction, receiving a first content identifier sent from a first remote device, and identifying metadata appropriate thereto;

in a second transaction, receiving the same content identifier sent from a second remote device, and identifying metadata appropriate thereto;

wherein the metadata identified in the first and second transactions are different.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein said first and second remote devices are different devices.

5. The method of claim 3 wherein identification of different metadata is due to first and second different data received from said first and second remote devices.

6. A method comprising:

receiving a first version of entertainment content;

applying an operation to said first version to yield an identifier;

transmitting the identifier to a remote system; and

as a consequence, providing a second version of entertainment content, the second version being enhanced relative to the first version.

7. A method comprising:

at a first device, applying an operation to entertainment content to yield a content identifier;

sending said content identifier to a remote system; and

as a consequence, at a second device distinct from the first, facilitating access to entertainment content.
