Abstract

A system for automatically preparing customized replies in response to communications from a plurality of clients. To facilitate automation and tracking, each original communication to the client (or each original response from the client) is tagged with a unique label, and replies to client responses are each correspondingly labeled. The system provides individualized replies to each of a variety of response options that a client might exercise in response to a received communication, whether an original communication or a reply to a previous response. The system is applicable to mass marketing communications, and is particularly well suited to the generation of personalized replies to each and every one of a multitude (tens of thousands and up to millions) of communications from clients. The system is also capable of continuing to generate replies to follow-up responses from clients and to thereby maintain an ongoing “conversation” until the client makes a purchase decision, or no longer responds. Communications may be delivered through a variety of means, such as the internet, the mails, by facsimile, on a host communication, etc.

Claims

1. A method for automatically preparing one or more client communications comprising one or more offerings to a client for at least one or more financial products or services or both, comprising the steps of:

determining variable content data on said financial product or service or both; and

generating, in a computer-readable medium, an electronic document comprising one or more electronic pages, said electronic document comprising a primary communication serving as a host vehicle and at least one client communication, wherein said offering comprises said variable content data; and

wherein said determining step and said generating step are performed automatically within an automated process.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said client communication comprises an offer portion, a product/service information portion and a fulfillment portion, wherein said product/service information portion comprises information pertaining to said financial product or service enabling said client to make an informed decision regarding said financial product or service, and wherein said fulfillment portion enables said client to obtain said financial product or service, or directs said client on how to obtain said financial product or service or information relating thereto.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein information in said product/service information portion includes information required by compliance standards to offer said financial product or service for sale.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein said information required by compliance standards comprises variable content data.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein information in said product/service information portion includes information required by applicable regulations to offer said financial product or service for sale.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the client communication includes one or more footnotes, wherein said footnotes differ for each different client.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said variable content data is contained in one or more footnotes.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said determining step and said generating step are performed within a single automated process.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein said automated process executes without manual intervention during processing of said determining step and said generating step.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein said generating step comprises the step of:

generating said electronic document in said automated process such that said client communication is an integral part of said host vehicle.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein said generating step comprises the step of:

generating said electronic document in said automated process such that said electronic document is a single document.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein said generating step comprises the step of:

generating said electronic document in said automated process such that the entirety of said electronic document appears to be created from a single source.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein said determining step comprises the step of:

automatically determining pricing variable content data pertaining to said financial product or service; and

automatically determining non-pricing variable content data;

wherein said generating step comprises generating said electronic document such that said offering includes said pricing and non-pricing variable content data.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein said offering comprises pricing content data pertaining to said financial product or service, and also comprises non-pricing content data pertaining to said financial product or service.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein said pricing content data is variable.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein said non-pricing content data is variable.

36. The method of claim 1, wherein the client communication includes one or more footnotes, wherein the footnotes include data shared by different clients.

37. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the variable content data comprises client information that either includes client geographic information different from and in some instances in addition to client physical address or email information or comprises at least one of psychographically-derived and demographically-derived data.

38. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the variable content data pertains to a mortgage.

39. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the variable content data comprises pertaining to one or more of an individual life insurance product, a term life insurance product, a group insurance product, a disability insurance product, health insurance or property and casualty insurance product.

40. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the variable content data pertains to one or more of an annuity, savings product, a demand deposit account, an investment product, a financial security, an equity instrument, a debt instrument, a money market, a mutual fund, stocks, bonds, or other brokerage product, a loan product, or a retirement-related product or plan.

41. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the variable content data comprises financial product or service pricing information or financial product or service non-price information or ancillary information.

42. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the variable content data comprises one or more of textual, graphical, and numeric variable information.

43. The method as recited in claim 1, further comprising the step of:

sending the electronic document to the client via an electronic network.

44. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the electronic document is sent via the internet by electronic mail or is provided via the internet to a website

45. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the electronic document is printed and sent as a paper document.

46. The method of claim 1, wherein the electronic document is prepared as a single document.

47. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating step automatically generates successive client communications, each of which is in electronic form and includes different variable content data.

48. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating step automatically generates successive client communications, each of which is in electronic form and includes similar variable content data.

49. The method of claim 1, wherein a particular one of the products or services offered relates to products or services referred to or contained in the primary communication transmitted via the host vehicle.

50. The method of claim 1, wherein a particular one of the products or services offered does not relate to products or services referred to or contained in the primary communication transmitted via the host vehicle.

51. The method of claim 1, wherein a particular one of the products or services offered includes a mechanism and/or data to increase the use of the products or services referred to or contained in the primary communication transmitted via the host vehicle.

52. The method of claim 1, wherein a particular one of the products or services offered increases the use of an existing product or service the client already has with the sender of the host vehicle.

53. The method of claim 1, wherein the variable content data in the offering pertains to the primary communication serving as the host vehicle.

54. The method of claim 1, wherein the variable content data in the offering relates to products or services referred to or contained in the primary communication transmitted via the host vehicle.

55. The method of claim 1, wherein the variable content data in the offering does not relate to the primary communication serving as the host vehicle.

56. The method of claim 1, wherein the variable content data in the offering does not relate to products or services referred to or contained in the primary communication transmitted via the host.

57. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining step comprises:

automatically calculating and/or deriving the variable content data.

58. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating step includes the step of adjusting at least one of a layout and a format of the client communication portion depending on content of the offering.

59. The method of claim 1, wherein the variable content data on the financial product or service pertains to a credit-related product

60. The method of claim 2, wherein any one or more of the offer portion, the product/service information portion and the fulfillment portion includes the variable content data.

61. The method of claim 14, wherein the pricing content data is calculated or derived.

62. The method of claim 1, wherein the variable content data pertains to terms of the offering of the financial product or service.

63. The method of claim 1, wherein the variable content relates to one or more plans applicable to the financial product or service, wherein each plan has one or more features relating to the financial product or service, and wherein the features of the plans vary from plan to plan.

64. The method of claim 63, further comprising the step of:

selecting the plans for the client.

65. The method of claim 1, wherein the variable content is sufficient to enable a customer to make an informed decision.

308. The method of claim 1, wherein the host vehicle is one or more of an account statement, a notice, a letter, or a newsletter.

17. A method for automatically preparing a combined communication with collective data, said combined communication comprising a host portion with primary data for a primary purpose and a client communication portion with secondary data, the client communication portion presenting an offering for at least one or more financial products or services wherein the secondary data pertains to the offering and is contained in the client communication portion, said method comprising the steps of:

determining variable content data for the offering for the at least one or more financial products or services and including the variable content data in the client communication portion; and

generating said combined communication as a single document including the host portion with the primary data and the client communication portion with the secondary data including the variable content data.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein said client communication portion comprises an offer portion, a product/service information portion and a fulfillment portion, wherein said product/service information portion comprises information pertaining to said one or more financial products or services enabling said client to make an informed decision regarding said one or more financial products or services, and wherein said fulfillment portion enables said client to obtain said one or more financial products or services, or directs said client on how to obtain said one or more financial products or services or information relating thereto.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein said offering is located on one or more pages of said combined communication different from the page or pages of the document that contain the content of the host portion of said combined communication.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein information in said product/service information portion includes information required by compliance standards to offer said one or more financial products or services for sale.

21. The method of claim 18, wherein information in said product/service information portion includes information required by applicable regulations to offer said financial products or services for sale.

22. The method of claim 17, wherein said variable content data does not pertain to said host portion.

23. The method of claim 17, wherein said variable content data pertains only to said offering of the one or more financial products or services.

24. The method of claim 17, wherein said variable content data pertains to terms of said offering of the one or more financial products or services.

25. The method of claim 17, wherein said generating step includes the step of adjusting at least one of a layout and a format of said client communication portion depending on content of said offering.

26. The method of claim 17, wherein said generating step includes the step of including said variable content data into said offer such that said offer does not include any excess spaces adjacent to said variable content data.

27. The method of claim 17, wherein said determining step comprises:

calculating and/or automatically deriving said variable content data.

66. A method as recited in claim 17, wherein the variable content data comprises financial product or service pricing information.

67. A method as recited in claim 17, wherein the variable content data further includes financial product or service non-price information.

68. A method as recited in claim 17, wherein the variable content data comprises one or more of textual, graphical, and numeric variable information.

69. The method as recited in claim 17, further comprising the step of:

sending the combined communication to the client via an electronic network.

70. The method as recited in claim 17, wherein the combined communication is sent via the internet by electronic mail or provided via the internet to a website.

71. The method as recited in claim 17, where the combined communication is printed and sent as a paper document.

72. The method of claim 17, wherein the generating step automatically generates successive client communications, each of which is in electronic form and includes different variable content data.

81. The method of claim 17, wherein a particular one of the products of services offered includes a mechanism and/or data to increase the use of the products or services referred to or contained in the primary communication transmitted via the host vehicle.

82. The method of claim 17, wherein he determining step and the generating step are automatically performed within an automated process and executed without manual intervention during processing of the determining step and the generating step.

309. The method of claim 17, wherein the combined communication is one or more of an account statement, a notice, a letter, or a newsletter.

28. A method for automatically preparing a combined communication, said combined communication comprising a host communication and a client communication, said host communication comprising primary data for communication to a specific client, said method comprising the steps of:

determining variable content for the client communication including at least some information required by compliance standards to offer a financial product or service for sale, at least a portion of the variable content different from the primary data on the host communication;

generating said client communication, said client communication including an offering for said financial product or service, said offering including said variable content; and

combining said host communication and said client communication to form said combined communication.

29. The method of claim 28, wherein said variable content includes at least some information required by applicable regulations to offer said financial product or service for sale.

The method of claim 28, wherein the offering comprises an offer portion, a product/service information portion and a fulfillment portion, wherein the product/service information portion comprises information pertaining to the financial product or service enabling the client to make an informed decision regarding the financial product or service, and wherein the fulfillment portion enables the client to obtain the financial product or service, or directs the client on how to obtain the financial product or service or information relating thereto.

84. The method of claim 83, wherein information in the product/service information portion includes information required by compliance standards to offer the financial product or service for sale.

85. The method of claim 28, wherein information in the product/service information portion includes information required by applicable regulations to offer the second financial product or service for sale.

86. The method of claim 28, wherein the client communication includes one or more footnotes, wherein the footnotes differ for each different client.

87. The method of claim 28, wherein the client communication includes one or more footnotes, wherein the footnotes contain shared data between different clients.

88. The method of claim 28, wherein the determining step comprises:

automatically calculating and/or deriving the variable content.

89. A method as recited in claim 28, wherein the variable information pertains to a mortgage.

96. The method of claim 28, wherein the variable content on the financial product or service pertains to a credit-related product.

97. The method of claim 28, wherein the generating step automatically generates successive client communications, each of which is in electronic form and includes different variable content.

98. The method of claim 28, wherein the generating step automatically generates successive client communications, each of which is in electronic form and includes similar variable content.

A method for automatically preparing a combined communication using a computer system for one or more clients, said combined communication comprising a host and a client communication, said host pertaining to a first purpose of communication and said client communication offering one or more financial products or services, said method comprising the steps of:

informing the computer system of one or more financial products or services for a particular client or selecting the one or more financial products or services for a particular client with a decision criteria executed by the computer system;

determining variable content specific to the offering for said financial products or services;

generating said client communication, said client communication including said offering for said financial product or service, said offering including said variable content; and

combining said host and said client communication to form said combined communication.

The method of claim 30, wherein the offering comprises an offer portion, a product/service information portion and a fulfillment portion, wherein the product/service information portion comprises information pertaining to the financial product or service enabling the client to make an informed decision regarding the financial product or service, and wherein the fulfillment portion enables the client to obtain the financial product or service, or directs the client on how to obtain the financial product or service or information relating thereto.

103. A method as recited in claim 30, wherein the variable content pertains to a mortgage or pertains to a loan product.

104. The method as recited in claim 30, wherein the combined communication is sent via the internet by electronic mail or provided via the internet to a website.

105. The method of claim 102, wherein information in the product/service information portion includes information required by compliance standards to offer the financial product or service for sale.

automatically calculating and/or deriving the variable content.

A method for automatically preparing a combined communication with a computer system, said combined communication comprising a host with primary data for a primary purpose and a client communication with secondary data, the client communication pertaining to an offering of a plan or one or more financial products or services with the secondary data contained in the client communication, said method comprising the steps of:

informing the computer system of one or more plans or financial products or services or selecting one or more plans or financial products or services applicable to the offering by use of a decision criteria executed by the computer system;

determining variable content data relating to the offering for said selected one or more plans or financial products or services;

generating said client communication, said client communication including said offering for said selected one or more plans applicable to said offering including said variable content data; and

combining said host and said client communication to form said combined communication.

112. The method of claim 31, wherein the primary data is variable or wherein the secondary data is variable.

113. The method of claim 31, wherein the primary data relates to the secondary data or wherein the primary data does not relate to the secondary data.

32. A method for automatically preparing a combined communication, said combined communication comprising a host and a client communication, said host pertaining to a first reason for communication with a client, said method comprising the steps of:

determining variable content pertaining to an offering for a financial product or service;

generating said client communication, said client communication including said offering for said financial product or service, said offering including said variable content, wherein said client communication comprises content sufficient to enable a customer to make an informed decision regarding said financial product or service; and

combining said host and said client communication to form said combined communication.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein said content sufficient to enable a customer to make an informed decision includes compliance related information.

The method of claim 32, wherein the offering comprises an offer portion, a product/service information portion and a fulfillment portion, wherein the product/service information portion comprises information pertaining to the financial product or service enabling the client to make an informed decision regarding the financial product or service, and wherein the fulfillment portion enables the client to obtain the financial product or service, or directs the client on how to obtain the financial product or service or information relating thereto.

122. The method of claim 32, wherein the generating step automatically generates successive client communications, each of which is in electronic form and includes different variable content.

123. The method of claim 32, wherein the generating step automatically generates successive client communications, each of which is in electronic form and includes shared variable content.

124. The method of claim 32, wherein the client communication includes one or more footnotes, wherein the footnotes differ for each different client.

313. The method of claim 32, wherein the host is one or more of an account statement, a notice, a letter, or a newsletter.

34. A method of automatically preparing a communication offering a financial product or service to a client, said communication generated to be specific and appropriate for said client, the method comprising the steps of:

automatically determining content for an offering to said client of said financial product or service based on at least one of (a) information relating to said client;

(b) information relating to said financial product or service; and

(c) information relating to said offering; and

automatically generating said communication, wherein said communication includes said content.

35. The method of claim 34, wherein said generating step includes the step of automatically adjusting at least one of a format and layout of said communication based on at least one of (i) said content;

(ii) said offering;

(iii) information relating to said client; and

(iv) information relating to said financial product or service.

The method of claim 34, wherein the offering comprises an offer portion, a product/service information portion and a fulfillment portion, wherein the product/service information portion comprises information pertaining to the financial product or service enabling the client to make an informed decision regarding the financial product or service, and wherein the fulfillment portion enables the client to obtain the financial product or service, or directs the client on how to obtain the financial product or service or information relating thereto.

127. The method of claim 126, wherein information in the product/service information portion includes information required by compliance standards to offer the financial product or service for sale.

128. The method of claim 127, wherein the information required by compliance standards comprises variable content.

129. The method of claim 126, wherein information in the product/service information portion includes information required by applicable regulations to offer the financial product or service for sale.

130. The method of claim 34, wherein the generating step includes the step of including the variable content into the offering such that the offering does not include any excess spaces adjacent to the variable content.

131. The method of claim 34, wherein the determining step comprises:

automatically calculating and/or deriving the content.

132. A method as recited in claim 34, wherein the content comprises at least one of client information and financial product or service information.

133. A method as recited in claim 34, wherein the content contains variable information comprising one or more of textual, graphical, and numeric variable information.

134. The method as recited in claim 34, wherein the communication is sent via the internet by electronic mail or is provided via the internet to a website.

141. The method of claim 34, wherein the determining step and the generating step are performed within a single automated process.

A method using a computing system for automatically generating one or more client communications presenting an offering on one or more financial products or services specific to one or more clients, the client communications for delivery with a host vehicle containing a primary communication to the one or more clients, the method comprising the steps of:

using one or more associated databases containing information data on a plurality of distinct clients or products or both clients and products or other data pertinent to the offer;

obtaining from the one or more databases, using decision criteria, certain variable data specific to a particular client;

inserting the certain variable data specific to the client into at least one client communication for the particular client; and

generating a single communication for the particular client, the single communication comprising the host vehicle containing the primary communication for the particular client and the at least one client communication for the particular client containing the certain variable data specific to the particular client.

The method of claim 142, wherein the offering in the client communication comprises an offer portion, a product/service information portion and a fulfillment portion, a product/service information portion and a fulfillment portion, wherein the product/service information portion comprises information pertaining to the financial product or service enabling the client to make an informed decision regarding the financial product or service, and wherein the fulfillment portion enables the client to obtain the financial product or service, or directs the client on how to obtain the financial product or service or information relating thereto.

144. The method of claim 143, wherein any one or more of the offer portion, the product/service information portion and the fulfillment portion include the certain variable data.

145. The system of claim 142, wherein the certain variable data comprises client geographic information different from and in some instances in addition to client physical address or email information.

146. A method as recited in claim 142, wherein the certain variable data comprises one or more of client asset information, client income information, client liability information, and client occupation.

147. A method as recited in claim 142, wherein the certain variable data pertains to a mortgage.

148. A method as recited in claim 142, wherein the certain variable data comprises at least one of psychographically-derived, and demographically-derived data.

149. A method as recited in claim 142, wherein the certain variable data comprises financial product or service information.

A method as recited in claim 149, wherein the financial product or service information relates to either one or both of an individual life insurance product, a term life insurance product, a disability insurance product, a health insurance product, or a property and casualty insurance product.
