Abstract

A computer implemented method, system, and computer usable program code are provided for categorizing directories using categorized objects. Responsive to receiving a plurality of objects, the plurality of objects are stored in a directory in a file system. One of a plurality of indicia is associated with each of the plurality of objects. The plurality of objects are displayed using the indicia as a marked objects and the directory is displayed using the indicia of an earliest stored marked object as a marked directory.

Claims

1. A computer implemented method for categorizing directories using categorized objects, the computer implemented method comprising:

responsive to receiving a set of objects, storing the set of objects in a directory in a file system;

associating one of a set of indicia with each of the set of objects;

displaying the set of objects using the indicia as marked objects; and

displaying the directory using the indicia of an earliest stored marked object as a marked directory.

2. The computer implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining a majority of the marked objects in the directory; and

displaying the directory using the indicia of the majority of the marked objects as the marked directory.

3. The computer implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

responsive to a selection of the marked directory, displaying the marked objects stored within the marked directory.

4. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein associating the indicia with the object and the directory is determined using a priority measure.

5. The computer implemented method of claim 4, wherein the priority measure is user selected.

6. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein the directory is a sub-directory and wherein the sub-directory and a parent directory are displaying using the indicia as a marked sub-directory and a marked parent directory.

7. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein the indicia is selected from an options menu associated with the object.

8. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein the object indicia and the directory indicia are two different identifiers.

9. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein the object indicia is at least one of a background icon color, an icon text color, an icon text background color, an indicator, or an abbreviated identifier.

10. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein the directory indicia is at least one of a background icon color, an icon text color, an icon text background color, an indicator, or an abbreviated identifier.

11. The computer implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining each indicia of the marked objects in the directory; and

toggling the display of the directory using each indicia of the marked objects as the marked directory.

12. The computer implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

responsive to a selection of the marked directory, displaying a percentage of each indicia of the marked objects stored within the marked directory.

13. A data processing system comprising:

a bus system;

a communications system connected to the bus system;

a memory connected to the bus system, wherein the memory includes a set of instructions; and

a processing unit connected to the bus system, wherein the processing unit executes the set of instructions to store the set of objects in a directory in a file system in response to receiving a set of objects;

associate one of a set of indicia with each of the set of objects;

display the set of objects using the indicia as marked objects; and

display the directory using the indicia of an earliest stored marked object as a marked directory.

14. The data processing system of claim 13, wherein the processing unit executes the set of instructions to determine a majority of the marked objects in the directory;

and display the directory using the indicia of the majority of the marked objects as the marked directory.

15. The data processing system of claim 13, wherein the processing unit executes the set of instructions to determine each indicia of the marked objects in the directory;

and toggle the display of the directory using each indicia of the marked objects as the marked directory.

16. The data processing system of claim 13, wherein the processing unit executes the set of instructions to display a percentage of each indicia of the marked objects stored within the marked directory in response to a selection of the marked directory.

17. A computer program product comprising:

a computer usable medium including computer usable program code for categorizing directories using categorized objects, the computer program product including;

computer usable program code for storing the set of objects in a directory in a file system in response to receiving a set of objects;

computer usable program code for associating one of a set of indicia with each of the set of objects;

computer usable program code for displaying the set of objects using the indicia as marked objects; and

computer usable program code for displaying the directory using the indicia of an earliest stored marked object as a marked directory.

18. The computer program product of claim 17, further including:

computer usable program code for determining a majority of the marked objects in the directory; and

computer usable program code for displaying the directory using the indicia of the majority of the marked objects as the marked directory.

19. The computer program product of claim 18, further including:

computer usable program code for determining each indicia of the marked objects in the directory; and

computer usable program code for toggling the display of the directory using each indicia of the marked objects as the marked directory.

20. The computer program product of claim 18, further including:

computer usable program code for displaying a percentage of each indicia of the marked objects stored within the marked directory in response to a selection of the marked directory.
