Abstract

A method for managing patient ventilator operation includes receiving data representing one or more hemodynamic parameters. In response to the received data representing the one or more hemodynamic parameters, one or more commands are provided for adaptively altering ventilator operation.

Claims

1. A method for managing patient ventilator operation, comprising the activities of:

performing a ventilation maneuver;

receiving data representing one or more hemodynamic parameters; and

in response to the received data representing the one or more hemodynamic parameters, providing one or more signals for adaptively altering ventilator operation.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more hemodynamic parameters are selected from the group consisting of arterial blood pressure and cardiac output.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more signals provided for adaptively altering ventilator operation are for at least one of (a) terminating the ventilator maneuver, (b) altering respiratory volume, and (c) altering respiratory pressure.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the one or more hemodynamic parameters is averaged.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

generating an alarm in response to the received data representing the one or more hemodynamic parameters.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the ventilator maneuver is at least one of a recruitment maneuver and a low flow PV maneuver.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the recruitment maneuver is selected from the group consisting of regular sighs, sustained inflations, successively increased PEEP, successively increased inspiratory pressure, or combinations thereof.

8. A method for managing patient ventilator operation, comprising the activities of:

performing a ventilation maneuver;

receiving data representing arterial blood pressure;

receiving data representing cardiac output;

receiving data representing an ST segment level; and

in response to the received data representing the arterial blood pressure, the received data representing the cardiac output, and the received data representing the ST segment level, providing one or more signals for adaptively altering ventilator operation.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the one or more signals provided for adaptively altering ventilator operation are for at least one of (a) terminating the ventilator maneuver, (b) altering respiratory volume, and (c) altering respiratory pressure.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein at least one of the data representing the arterial blood pressure, the data representing the cardiac output, and the data representing the ST segment level is averaged.

11. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

generating an alarm in response to the received data representing the one or more hemodynamic parameters.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the ventilator maneuver is at least one of a recruitment maneuver and a low flow PV maneuver.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the recruitment maneuver is selected from the group consisting of regular sighs, sustained inflations, successively increased PEEP, successively increased inspiratory pressure, or combinations thereof.

20. The system of claim 13, wherein the recruitment maneuver is selected from the group consisting of regular sighs, sustained inflations, successively increased PEEP, successively increased inspiratory pressure, or combinations thereof.

14. A system for managing patient ventilator operation, comprising:

a patient monitoring module for receiving data representing one or more hemodynamic parameters;

a central processor for, in response to the received data representing one or more hemodynamic parameters, providing one or more commands for adaptively altering ventilator operation; and

a patient treatment module for providing signals for adaptively altering ventilator operation in response to the one or more commands from the central processor.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the one or more hemodynamic parameters are selected from the group consisting of arterial blood pressure and cardiac output.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the one or more commands provided for adaptively altering ventilator operation are for at least one of (a) terminating the ventilator maneuver, (b) altering respiratory volume, and (c) altering respiratory pressure.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein at least one of the one or more hemodynamic parameters is averaged.

18. The system of claim 14, further comprising:

generating an alarm in response to the received data representing the one or more hemodynamic parameters.

19. The system of claim 14, wherein the ventilator maneuver is at least one of a recruitment maneuver and a low flow PV maneuver.
