Abstract

A system and a method are provided for managing network activation with a carrier and registration with a service provider. In one example, the method determines a network activation status. If the network is not activated, a utility is used to perform the activation. Further, the status of registration with a provider is determined. If not registered, a request is sent to a server of the service provider for a registration file configured to gather user registration information. The registration file is then received from the server. The registration file is executed on the personal computer. Data gathered by the registration file is then returned to the service provider'"'"'s server to complete the registration procedures.

Claims

1. In a mobile computing device, a method comprising:

receiving a command to activate a connection with the wireless network;

retrieving network activation information from within the mobile computing device to determine whether the mobile computing device is enabled for access to the mobile phone network;

communicating the network activation information to an access system controlling access to the wireless network; and

establishing access for the mobile computing device to the wireless network in response to granted access from the access system.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the network activation information includes a general access number for the network.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the wireless network is a mobile telephone network.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the network activation information includes a valid security key.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein communicating further comprising communicating in a protocol specific to the access system.

6. The method of claim 2, further comprising storing in a memory within the mobile computing device information received from the access system to access the network.

7. A memory storing instructions thereon, the instructions when executed by a processor cause the processor to:

receive a command to activate a connection with a wireless network;

retrieve network activation information from within the mobile computing device to determine whether the mobile computing device is enabled for access to the wireless network;

communicate the network activation information to an access system controlling access to the wireless network; and

establish access for the mobile computing device to the wireless network in response to granted access from the access system.

8. The memory of claim 7, wherein the network activation information includes a general access number for the network.

9. The memory of claim 7, wherein the wireless network is a mobile telephone network.

10. The memory of claim 8, wherein the network activation information includes a valid security key.

11. The memory of claim 8, wherein the instructions that cause the processor to communicate further comprise instructions that cause the processor to communicate in a protocol specific to the access system.

12. The memory of claim 8, further comprising instructions that cause the processor to store information received from the access system to access the network.

13. The memory of claim 11, wherein the information received is stored in the memory.
