Abstract

Systems and methods for providing registration at a remote site that may include, for example, a monitoring module that may communicate with a remote site. A registration protocol may be used by the monitoring module and the remote site in generating the messages communicated during the registration process. The monitoring module may gather and generate various identification information to be included in the registration protocol messages. The registration information provided by the monitoring module may be stored at the remote site in a database server having a database. A confirmation message may be communicated from the remote site to the monitoring module that may either acknowledge successful registration or report that an error occurred during the registration process.

85. A method for controlling a device using a virtual representation of the device comprising:

registering information regarding a virtual representation of the device at a remote site;

generating the virtual representation of the device on a remote user access device using the registered information;

receiving a command from the remote user access device at the remote site;

transmitting the command to the device from the remote site; and

executing the command.

86. The method of claim 85, further comprising receiving an indication of a desire to access the device.

87. The method of claim 85, further comprising receiving a request to command the device to perform a function.

88. The method of claim 85, wherein registering information regarding the virtual representation of the device comprises transmitting the information associated with the device from the device to a remote database.

89. The method of claim 85, wherein the information regarding the virtual representation of the device comprises information regarding a parameter, an action, or an indicator.

90. The method of claim 85, wherein the information regarding the virtual representation of the device comprises a component, a resource, or a template.

91. The method of claim 85, wherein registering the information regarding the virtual representation of the device at a remote site is performed by the device.

92. The method of claim 85, wherein generating the virtual representation further comprises generating a web page, wherein the web page comprises at least one action and at least one indicator.

93. The method of claim 92, wherein generating the virtual representation comprises dynamically generating the web page based on a set of criteria.

94. The method of claim 85, wherein generating the virtual representation of the device comprises:

generating a display component; and

displaying the display component using a template document.

95. The method of claim 94, wherein generating a display component comprises:

inserting information regarding a component into the template document; and

generating the display component using the information inserted into the template.

96. The method of claim 85, wherein generating a virtual representation of the device comprises:

generating a display resource; and

displaying the display resource using a template document.

97. The method of claim 96, further comprising:

selecting a template from a plurality of templates associated with the device; and

selecting a component associated with the selected template.

98. The method of claim 85, further comprising:

generating data indicating that the command has been executed; and

generating an indicator on the virtual representation of the device using the data to reflect the state of the device.

99. The method of claim 85, further comprising:

generating data indicating that the command has been executed; and

updating a component using the generated data to reflect the state of the device.

100. The method of claim 85, wherein executing the command is performed by the device.

101. A system for controlling a device using a virtual representation of the device comprising:

means for registering information regarding a virtual representation of the device at a remote site;

means for generating the virtual representation of the device on a remote user access device using the registered information;

means for receiving a command from the remote user access device at the remote site;

means for transmitting the command to the device from the remote site; and

means for executing the command.

102. The system of claim 101, further comprising means for receiving an indication of a desire to access the device.

103. The system of claim 101, further comprising means for receiving a request to command the device to perform a function.

104. The system of claim 101, wherein the means for registering information regarding the virtual representation of the device comprises means for transmitting the information associated with the device from the device to a remote database.

105. The system of claim 101, wherein the information regarding the virtual representation of the device comprises information regarding a parameter, an action, or an indicator.

106. The system of claim 101, wherein the information regarding the virtual representation of the device comprises a component, a resource, or a template.

107. The system of claim 101, wherein the device comprises the means for registering the information regarding the virtual representation of the device at a remote site.

108. The system of claim 101, wherein the means for generating the virtual representation further comprises means for generating a web page, wherein the web page comprises at least one action and at least one indicator.

109. The system of claim 108, wherein the means for generating the virtual representation comprises means for dynamically generating the web page based on a set of criteria.

110. The system of claim 101, wherein the means for generating the virtual representation of the device comprises:

means for generating a display component; and

means for displaying the display component using a template document.

111. The system of claim 110, wherein the means for generating a display component comprises:

means for inserting information regarding a component into the template document; and

means for generating the display component using the information inserted into the template.

112. The system of claim 101, wherein the means for generating a virtual representation of the device comprises:

means for generating a display resource; and

means for displaying the display resource using a template document.

113. The system of claim 112, further comprising:

means for selecting a template from a plurality of templates associated with the device; and

means for selecting a component associated with the selected template.

114. The system of claim 101, further comprising:

means for generating data indicating that the command has been executed; and

means for generating an indicator on the virtual representation of the device using the data to reflect the state of the device.

115. The system of claim 101, further comprising:

means for generating data indicating that the command has been executed; and

means for updating a component using the generated data to reflect the state of the device.

116. The system of claim 101, wherein the device comprises the means for executing the command.
