Abstract

Methods and apparatus are provided for managing a plurality of home pages for a user. One or more web pages are presented to a user by identifying a plurality of home pages associated with the user; and selecting one or more of the home pages to present to the user based on one or more predefined rules. The home pages associated with the user can be selected by the user. A number of different predefined rules can be applied for selecting the home pages to be presented to the user.

Claims

1. A method for presenting one or more web pages to a user, comprising:

identifying a plurality of home pages associated with said user; and

selecting one or more of said home pages to present to said user based on one or more predefined rules.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said home pages associated with said user are selected by said user.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages randomly.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages based on a predefined schedule.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein said schedule is specified by said user.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein said schedule is obtained by observing actions of said user over time.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages based on a percentage change of each of said plurality of home pages.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages based on a presence of one or more predefined content items in said plurality of home pages.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects a configurable number of said plurality of web pages for presentation to said user.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages based on a weighting assigned to each of said plurality of home pages.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein an entity may override said one or more predefined rules and “

push”

a home page to said browser.

12. A system for presenting one or more web pages to a user, comprising:

a memory; and

at least one processor, coupled to the memory, operative to;

obtain a listing of a plurality of home pages associated with said user; and

select one or more of said home pages to present to said user based on one or more predefined rules.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein said home pages associated with said user are selected by said user.

14. The system of claim 12, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages randomly.

15. The system of claim 12, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages based on a predefined schedule.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein said schedule is specified by said user or obtained by observing actions of said user over time.

17. The system of claim 12, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages based on a percentage change of each of said plurality of home pages.

18. The system of claim 12, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages based on a presence of one or more predefined content items in said plurality of home pages.

19. The system of claim 12, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects a configurable number of said plurality of web pages for presentation to said user.

20. The system of claim 12, wherein said one or more predefined rules selects one or more of said plurality of web pages based on a weighting assigned to each of said plurality of home pages.

21. An article of manufacture for presenting one or more web pages to a user, comprising a machine readable medium containing one or more programs which when executed implement the steps of:

obtaining a listing of a plurality of home pages associated with said user; and

selecting one or more of said home pages to present to said user based on one or more predefined rules.
