Abstract

A system and method for remotely loading artifacts is disclosed. The system and method involves monitoring application installation events on a computing device. In response to detecting an application installation event, the application installation event is intercepted. The application associated with the application installation event is searched for artifacts, and any artifacts found within the application are stored in a centralized location. The artifacts are further indexed according to a target namespace. In one embodiment, the system and method further involved receiving a query from a client to locate an artifact, locating the artifact from previously extracted artifacts and returning the artifact as URL address.

Claims

1. A computer program product comprising a computer useable medium having a computer readable program, wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer causes the computer to:

monitor one or more application installation events on a computing device;

in response to detecting an application installation event, intercept the application installation event;

extract an artifact found within an application associated with the application installation event that was detected;

store the artifact in a centralized location;

index the artifact according to a target namespace; and

locate the artifact based upon a query.

2. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the computer readable program further causes the computer to provide, in response to the query, the location of the artifact.

3. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the artifact includes metadata.

4. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the artifact includes an Extensible Markup Language schema.

5. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the computer readable program further causes the computer to index the artifact according to an application identifier.

6. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the computer readable program further causes the computer to index the artifact according to a type.

7. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the artifact is extracted from a tree structure and stored in a flat file structure.

8. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the location of the artifact is indicated by a Uniform Resource Locator.

9. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the query includes criteria including at least one of an application identifier, a type, and target namespace.

10. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the centralized location is a database.

11. The computer program product of claim 1, wherein the centralized location is a directory structure.

12. A method of remotely managing artifacts, comprising:

monitoring one or more application installation events on a computing device;

in response to detecting an application installation event, intercepting the application installation event;

extracting an artifact found within an application associated with the application installation event that was detected;

storing the artifact in a centralized location;

indexing the artifact according to a target namespace; and

locating the artifact based upon a query.

13. The method of claim 12, further comprising providing, in response to the query, the location of the artifact.

14. The method of claim 12 wherein the artifact includes metadata.

15. The method of claim 12 wherein the artifact includes an Extensible Markup Language schema.

16. The method of claim 12 wherein the artifact is further indexed according to application identifier.

17. The method of claim 12 wherein the artifact is further indexed according to type.

18. The method of claim 12 wherein the artifact is extracted from a tree structure and stored in a flat file structure.

19. The method of claim 12 wherein the location of the artifact is indicated by a Uniform Resource Locator.

20. The method of claim 12, wherein the criteria in the query includes at least one of a type and target name space.

21. An system comprising:

a monitoring module that monitors one or more application installation events on a computing device and, in response to detecting an application installation event, extracts an artifact found within an application associated with the application installation event that was detected;

a centralized location that stores the artifact and indexes the artifact according to a target namespace; and

a communication module that receives a query for the artifact.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the computing device is a server.

23. The system of claim 21, further comprising a locator module that finds the location of the artifact within the centralized location in response to the query.

24. The system of claim 21 further comprising a client module configured to communicate with an application and to query the communication module.

25. The system of claim 24, wherein the communication module further transmits the location of the artifact to the client module.

26. The system of claim 21 wherein the artifact loader client is configured by an administrator to query a specific artifact loader service.

27. The system of claim 21 wherein the artifact loader client is configured to programmatically query one or more specific artifact loader services.

28. The system of claim 21 wherein the artifact includes an Extensible Markup Language schema.

29. The system of claim 21 wherein the artifact is further indexed according to at least one of an application name and type.
