Abstract

A system that uses a health-related dictionary component to establish responses to requests from devices and applications is provided. The innovation discloses uses of a health-related dictionary to enable retrieval of standardized lists and taxonomies in the healthcare space as well as localization of health-related data. Examples of these taxonomies include codes from medical coding vocabularies such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), layouts, templates, as well as references to units of measurements such as feet, inches, meters, liters, etc.

Claims

1. A system that facilitates process of a health-related data request from an application, comprising:

a dictionary component that includes reference data; and

a dictionary access layer that processes the health-related data request and renders a subset of reference data based upon the health-related data request.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the dictionary component includes a plurality of health-related taxonomies.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the each of the plurality of health-related taxonomies include one of a coding system or a structural definition system.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the dictionary component includes a collection of code systems, a collection of source concepts and a collection of localized text strings.

5. The system of claim 1, further comprising a request analysis component that identifies at least one of a name, family or version of taxonomy from the health-related data request, wherein the subset of reference data is associated with the taxonomy.

6. The system of claim 5, further comprising an evaluation component that determines scope of the health-related data request, wherein the scope is employed to identify the subset of reference data.

7. The system of claim 6, further comprising a profile determination component that establishes profile parameters, wherein a subset of the profile parameters are employed to one of transform or localize the subset of reference data.

8. The system of claim 5, further comprising a dictionary interface component that fetches the subset of reference data from the dictionary component

9. The system of claim 1, further comprising a configuration component that at least one of formats, transforms or localizes the subset of reference data.

10. The system of claim 9, further comprising a rendering component that delivers the subset of reference data to the application.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the rendering component employs free form XML (extensible markup language) upon rendering the subset of health-related data.

12. A method for processing a health-related data request from an application, comprising:

analyzing the health-related data request;

employing the analysis to identify at least one of a name, family or version of a taxonomy maintained in a dictionary;

retrieving information from the taxonomy; and

rendering the information to the application.

13. The method of claim 12, further comprising transforming the health-related data request to establish the information.

14. The method of claim 12, further comprising localizing the health-related data request to establish the information.

15. The method of claim of claim 14, further comprising retrieving profile data, wherein the profile data is employed in the act of localizing the health-related data request.

16. A computer-executable system of providing health-related data support, comprising:

means for establishing scope of a health-related data request;

means for accessing a dictionary for information as a function of the scope;

means for generating a response to the health-related data request based upon the information; and

means for rendering the response.

17. The computer-executable system of claim 16, wherein the request is at least one of a definition request, a format request, a transformation request or a localization request.

18. The computer-executable system of claim 16, further comprising means for accessing a profile, wherein the profile is employed by the means in generating the response.

19. The computer-executable system of claim 16, further comprising:

means for mapping to a definition, wherein the response includes the definition;

means for transforming the request, wherein the response includes the transformation;

or

means for localizing the request, wherein the response includes the localization.

20. The computer-executable system of claim 16, wherein the response is a default response in the event that a specific response is unavailable.
