Abstract

Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a system for improved data communications within a remote sensor system. The system includes a sensor node. The sensor node is adapted to generate data based at least in part on a detected event. The sensor node is adapted to communicate the data based at least in part on a rule. Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a method for improved data communications within a remote sensor system. The method includes detecting an event, generating data based at least in part on the event, processing the data based at least in part on a rule, and communicating the data when the rule satisfied.

Claims

1. A system for improved data communications within a remote sensor system, the system including:

a sensor node,

wherein the sensor node is adapted to generate data based at least in part on a detected event, and

wherein the sensor node is adapted to communicate the data based at least in part on a rule.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the sensor node includes at least one of a seismic detector, an acoustic detector, a magnetic detector, and a passive infra-red detector.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the event include at least one of vehicle activity and personnel activity.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the rule is configurable by a user.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the rule is configurable remotely.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the sensor node is adapted to transmit the data to at least one of a gateway node and a control center node when the rule is satisfied.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the sensor node is adapted to receive the rule from a control center node.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the sensor node is adapted to generate the data based at least in part on a plurality of detected events.

9. The system of claim 1, further including a gateway node, wherein at least one of the sensor node and the gateway node are adapted to communicate the data based at least in part on the rule.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the gateway node is adapted to transmit the data to a control center node when the rule is satisfied.

11. The system of claim 9, wherein the gateway node is adapted to receive the data from the sensor node.

12. The system of claim 9, wherein the gateway node is adapted to receive the data from a plurality of sensor nodes.

13. The system of claim 9, wherein the gateway node is adapted to receive the rule from a control center node.

14. The system of claim 9, further including a control center node, wherein the control center node is adapted to communicate the rule to at least one of the sensor node and the gateway node.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the control center node is adapted to receive the data from at least one of the sensor node and the gateway node.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the control center node is adapted to receive data from at least one of a plurality of sensor nodes and a plurality of gateway nodes.

17. A method for improved data communications within a remote sensor system, the method including:

detecting an event;

generating data based at least in part on the event;

processing the data based at least in part on a rule; and

communicating the data when the rule is satisfied.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the event is detected at a sensor layer.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the communicating step includes transmitting the data from a sensor layer to at least one of a gateway layer and a control center layer when the rule is satisfied.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein the communicating step includes transmitting the data from a gateway layer to a control center layer when the rule is satisfied.

21. The method of claim 17, wherein the rule is configurable by a user.

22. The method of claim 17, wherein the rule is remotely configurable.

23. The method of claim 17, further including dropping the data when the rule is not satisfied.

24. A computer readable storage medium including a set of instructions for execution on a computer, the set of instructions including:

a detection routine configured to detect an event and generate data based at least in part on the event;

a processing routine configured to process the generated data based at least in part on a rule; and

a communication routine configured to communicate the processed data when the rule is satisfied.

25. The set of instructions of claim 24, wherein the detection routine is configured to detect the event and generate the data at a sensor layer.

26. The set of instructions of claim 24, wherein the communication routine is configured to transmit the data from a sensor layer to at least one of a gateway layer and a control center layer when the rule is satisfied.

27. The set of instructions of claim 24, wherein the communication routine is configured to transmit the data from a gateway layer to a control center layer when the rule is satisfied.

28. The set of instructions of claim 24, wherein the rule is configurable by a user.

29. The set of instructions of claim 24, wherein the rule is remotely configurable.

30. The set of instructions of claim 24, wherein the processing routine is configured to drop the data when the rule is not satisfied.
