Abstract

Disclosed is a mobile terminal having a pressure sensor with a plurality of pressure sensing areas that are used to change or rotate a standby screen image. The pressure sensor detects pressure applied by the user to the pressure sensing areas and outputs corresponding pressure sensing signals. The mobile terminal determines the direction of change or rotation of the standby screen image according to the pressure sensing signals. Upon determining the standby screen image changing direction, the mobile terminal loads and displays one of a plurality of images stored in a memory in the determined direction. Upon determining the direction of rotation of the standby screen image, the mobile terminal rotates the current standby screen image in the determined direction.

Claims

1. A mobile terminal capable of changing a standby screen, comprising:

a memory for storing a plurality of images in a predetermined order, said images being associated with the standby screen of said mobile terminal;

a display unit for displaying a standby screen image;

a pressure sensor having a predetermined number of pressure sensing areas on the surface of the display unit to detect pressure applied thereto and to generate corresponding pressure sensing signals; and

a control unit for receiving the pressure sensing signals, determining a standby screen image changing direction according to the received signals, loading one of the plurality of images stored in the memory in the determined direction, and displaying the loaded image.

2. The mobile terminal according to claim 1, wherein said pressure sensing areas are located at right and left portions on the surface of the display unit.

3. The mobile terminal according to claim 1, wherein said pressure sensor is a pressure sensing sheet designed to have a predetermined number of pressure sensing areas.

9. The mobile terminal according to claim 1, wherein said pressure sensing signals are received within a predetermined time.

4. A method for changing the standby screen in a mobile terminal which has a memory for storing a plurality of images in a predetermined order and a display unit for displaying a standby screen image and mounting a predetermined number of pressure sensing areas on the surface thereof, said method comprising:

detecting pressure applied to the pressure sensing areas on the surface of the display unit and outputting corresponding pressure sensing signals;

receiving the pressure sensing signals and determining a standby screen image changing direction according to the received signals; and

loading one of the plurality of images stored in the memory in the determined direction and displaying the loaded image on the display unit.

10. The method of claim 4, wherein said pressure sensing signals are received within a predetermined time.

5. A mobile terminal capable of rotating the standby screen, comprising:

a display unit for displaying a standby screen image;

a pressure sensor having a predetermined number of pressure sensing areas on the surface of the display unit to detect pressure on the pressure sensing areas and to generate corresponding pressure sensing signals; and

a control unit for receiving the pressure sensing signals, determining a direction of rotation of the standby screen image, and rotating the standby screen image currently displayed on the display unit by a predetermined angle in the determined direction.

6. The mobile terminal according to claim 5, wherein said pressure sensing areas are circularly positioned on the surface of the display unit.

7. The mobile terminal according to claim 5, wherein said pressure sensor is a pressure sensing sheet designed to have a predetermined number of pressure sensing areas.

11. The mobile terminal according to claim 5, wherein said pressure sensing signals are received within a predetermined time.

8. A method for changing the standby screen in a mobile terminal having a display unit for displaying a standby screen image and mounting a predetermined number of pressure sensing areas circularly on the surface thereof, said method comprising:

detecting pressure applied to the pressure sensing areas on the surface of the display unit and outputting corresponding pressure sensing signals;

receiving the pressure sensing signals and determining a direction of rotation of the standby screen image; and

rotating the standby screen image currently displayed on the display unit by a predetermined angle in the determined direction.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein said pressure sensing signals are received within a predetermined time.

13. A controller for controlling an image displayed on a display unit screen of a mobile terminal, comprising:

a processor in communication with a memory, the memory containing code which when loaded into the processor enables the processor to;

receive a plurality of signals associated with a plurality of pressure sensitive areas on said display unit;

determine a direction associated with a sequence of receiving said plurality of signals; and

perform an operation on said displayed image based on said determined direction, wherein said operation is selected from the group consisting of;

replace and rotate.

14. The controller as claimed in claim 13, wherein a first set of said pressure sensitive areas are positioned substantially along a horizontal axis of said display unit screen.

15. The controller as claimed in claim 14, wherein at least one sensor associated with a second set of said pressure sensitive areas is positioned substantially along a vertical axis of said display unit screen.

16. The controller as claimed in claim 13, wherein said memory further contains a plurality of images in a predetermined order.

17. The controller as claimed in claim 13, wherein said sequence of signals is received within a predetermined time.

18. The controller as claimed in claim 16, wherein the replacing operation comprises:

receiving signals associated with said first set of sensors; and

replacing a current image with a next image in said plurality of images in said determined direction.

19. The controller as claimed in claim 13, wherein the rotating operation comprises:

receiving signals associated with said first and said second sets of sensors; and

rotating a current image in said determined direction.
